Note: A few of the following "facts" (excepting the ones that are detailed out) are probably incorrect. Until this is fixed, please take whatever you read in the following table with a grain of salt.

The facts that are highlighted with a bluish hue depend on the yet unproven assumption that verses 9:128 and 9:129 do not belong in the Quran. This is a huge topic in itself. The Submission web site has a strong viewpoint against these two verses.

• Suffixed words (e.g. ending with "haa", "hoo", "kum", "oon", etc.) are not counted, since they change the meaning (or doer for verbs) of the word.
• Prefixed words (e.g. beginning with "bi", "li", etc.) are counted, unless they are also suffixed. Prefixes in Arabic are only used as modifiers (such as prepositions) that are grammatically insignificant, relatively.
• The indefinite accusative case ending does not qualify as a suffix, even though it may add an "alif" to the end of the word. The reason it doesn't qualify is that the "alif" doesn't change the meaning of the word; it gets added only for grammatical reasons.
• Occurrences of words that appear in plural form are not counted, unless the word being counted is itself in the plural form.
• Diacritical marks are ignored; whether or not they're there doesn't change any of the counts. The exception to this rule is the dagger alif; if it takes the place of the regular "alif" in a particular word, then it's a letter and therefore counted, but if it's there only to facilitate pronunciation, then it's not counted.
• When counting the occurrences of a word that is a contraction, only the uncontracted form is counted. We define "contraction" as a word that is written in an authorized (can be found in dictionary) abbreviated form. For example, if we're counting the opening word of the Quran, "bism", the opening word itself is not counted because it's a contraction where the "alif" is dropped. So instead, we count the frequency of the expanded word "ism". An analogous example in English would be trying to count the frequency of the word "don't"; we would instead count the frequency of "do not" while ignoring any "don't" occurrences. This may seem like a somewhat arbitrary rule, and it may be, but it needs to be there for certain counts to work out.
• When counting, we concern ourselves neither with chapter titles nor with the 112 un-numbered "basmalahs" that precede most of the chapters.
• When counting the total number of words making up a verse or a chapter, simple conjunctions (such as "wa") and articles (such as "al") are not considered words, nor are negating particles (such as "lam").
