Canned Heat

Canned Heat was the cover and feature car in Street Machine magazine way back in 1984. Rebuilt after a rollover accident with a taxi the car was built with racing in mind. A 3-1/2" roof chop with a flattened centre allows the easy fitment of a full-length sunroof. Front suspension is Vauxhall HA Viva with Austin Cambridge rear axle, coilover shocks and Panhard rod.

Under the bonnet is a 3100cc Ford V6, fully balanced and blown with a Wade R034 supercharger running through a Capri 2000E our-speed gearbox. Power is about 250bhp giving a standing quarter mile time of 15.20s at 90mph.

The high riding 'gasser' style has long since gone out of fashion in the modified car world, but has the car gone too? Does anyone know if the car still exists somewhere, or has it seen it's last dragstrip?
