on Michael Nader's Return
Hello Again: "'I've
signed a two-year contract,' Michael Nader says of his deal to resume the role
of Dimitri Marick, who left last year despite frantic lobbying by fans. 'I don't
want to be anywhere I'm not wanted, and I just don't want to stay in daytime the
rest of my life. It's a great medium, but I'd like to move on.'"
Which is exactly
what he tried to do when he exited Pine Valley in August. 'A friend of mine had
an independent film in development, so I'm producing and acting in that.' Nader
is thrilled to make a grand re-entrance just when his on-screen brother, Edmund,
has fallen in love with Dimitri's 'widow', Alex. But, he teases, Dimitri has
secrets of his own. 'There's intrigue galore. There are big surprises. A new
woman that we don't know yet will be coming in, and she's diabolical.
I'm happy to be
back, and looking to mix it up. Dimitri's always been a great rebounder and full
of surprises, so let's rock'n'roll. Remember, I know where Dimitri's been, and I
know where he's going.'" (SOW 5/30/2000)
Coming Attraction: "AMC's" Finola Hughes is "so excited" by the return of Michael Nader as Dimitri. "Michael is so funny," says Hughes, who play's Dimitri's "widow," Alex. "He's a wild man and I work well with that." Will Dimitri's return jump-start the romance between Alex and Dimitri's brother, Edmund? "Totally," Hughes says. "The possibilities are outrageous." Comings & Goings- NADER'S TRIUMPHANT RETURN: After nearly nine months of campaigning, die-hard
Michael Nader fans have
gotten their wish. It's official: Nader returns as All My Children's brooding count Dimitri Marick in May.
When the popular actor was let go from AMC last June, an industry insider told Digest that he had "made no secret of his
unhappiness" with the show. However, his
rep insisted that no bad blood existed between Nader and AMC execs and described the departure as "a mutual
thing. [B]oth decided that it's time to cut the cord." His fans made no secret of
their malcontent, inundating ABC with letters, e-mails and even donning black armbands at the network's Super Soap Weekend in Disney World. Rumors
quickly surfaced that the show had approached Nader about reprising the role he originated in 1991, and earlier this month, his spokesperson would offer
Digest only that "if he did return, I think he would come back in March." AMC execs beat that deadline by six days, officially confirming Nader's return
on February 23.
Back in Pine Valley, Dimitri's grieving widow Alexandra
(Finola Hughes) has been creeping closer to brother-in-law Edmund (John
Callahan). When Marick rematerializes (he was presumed drowned in September after wandering into the sea), demurs an ABC spokesperson, it is
"sure to shock everyone" in town. (SOD Online 2/22/2000)
Michael Nader Returns To "ALL MY CHILDREN" (2/23/00) "Fan favorite Michael Nader makes his return to ABC Daytime's "All My Children" beginning in May 2000. Mr. Nader will reprise the role of the striking, enigmatic and affluent Dimitri Marick, which he originated in 1991 and continued to play until 1999. When Dimitri mysteriously vanished in July of 1999, he was presumed dead by all who loved him. Now that his friends and loved ones are beginning to come to terms with their loss, his reappearance in Pine Valley is sure to shock everyone, especially his grieving widow, Alex (Finola Hughes), and his brother, Edmund (John Callahan)."
Rumor Box "At
press time, Michael Nader was deep in negotiations with AMC to reprise the role
of Dimitri Marick for May sweeps. This is welcome news for the tenacious Nader
fans who have been campaigning furiously for the actor's return ever since the
count presumably walked into the sea to his 'death' last September. In a 10/5/99
Digest interview, Nader quipped, 'If he's not dead, he's a damn strong swimmer.'
(It's looking now like Dimitri had his water wings.) An ABC spokesperson
declined to comment." (SOD 2/29/2000)
The Buzzzz- Is Michael Nader Returning to AMC? "Soap Opera Weekly has learned that the door at AMC is still open for Michael Nader's (Dimitri) possible return. While ABC does not comment on actors' contracts, a spokesperson for the actor says he had nothing to comment on at this time. A few months ago, he said Nader had not been approached." (SOW 2/29/2000)
AMC's Dimitri Playing Hard-to-Get? "Rumors persist that AMC is in talks with Michael Nader to reprise the role of Dimitri. The latest is that the actor, who was ousted last summer, is playing hard-to-get. A spokesperson for Nader says it's not happening... so far. 'Honestly, he's not in talks yet,' insists the rep. 'They have not come in with an offer. When they're ready to take him back, they're going to call us up, make an offer and we'll negotiate it.' When will that be? 'If he did return, I think he would come back in March,' speculates the spokesperson." (SOD's Rumor Box, 2/1/2000)
