"The Sikh Diaspora" refers to the fact that in the past hundred years or so, Sikhs have moved to and settled in many parts of the world. The world "diaspora" comes from the Greek roots "dia" meaning "through" and "speirein" meaning "to sew" or "to scatter"; thus, literally, "to scatter throughout". The term was originally referred spreading of Jews out of Isreal. Today it is used to refer to any dispersal of a population. The Sikh Diaspora has spread to virtually every corner of the globe, including Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, parts of Africa, England, Canada, and the United States.
