Alexandre Millerand

Alexandre Millerand was originally an lawyer , he also was involved in journalistic works within the left wing press and in 1885 he was chosen into the Deputy Chamber. He thereafter joined ,for a while, the Social Democrats but in 1899 he took the Waldeck-Rousseaus offer. To enter in the Republican coalition government as Minister of Trade. Millerand's entering in a overwhelmingly Conservative ministry created a strong opposition within the working movements left wing and Millerand was exposed for a lot of critics; the international worker movement took side against his" Minister Socialism". Millerand worked hard for an Socialistic Law's but he more and more moved away from Socialistic ideas towards the Conservatives. As Minister of Public Works under Briand 1909-1910 he over won a railroad strike, as Minister of war under Poincaré 1912-1913 and under Viviani 1914-1915 . He was 1919-1920 General Commissioner over the newly won Alsace-Lothringen and with force he was responsible for solving the tough problems that the reuniting caused. Millerand was the person responsible for the 1919 years General election victorious National Block and Millerand now reached the first line of the French Politics . In January 1920 he took the role as Minister President after Clemenceau. He kept important negotiations with Germany and in the 1 of September he became the Republics President after Deschanel. Millerand was forced to resigning his post in 1923. The remaining part of his life he held an position in the senate but with no real power.
