About Spin City

Spin City is a great, great show of political humour with huge dollops of slapstick humour too.  I don't think Mike can walk anywhere - he always runs or jumps or hops or bounds or skips!!  And there's not many an episode that slips by without one of them falling over (usually Mike) or doing a silly dance (Carter or Stuart) or singing (the Mayor, James or Paul) or falling in a large hole (the Mayor)!  

Mike is the main character, and is a total workaholic and power freak.  He is very keen on girls, but always manages to break up the best relationships and not be able to get out of the worst ones. He has a huge fear of commitment, which he struggles hard to overcome.  He also hates psychiatrists - especially the one who ended up dating Nikki after trying counseling them both in couple counseling!

The Mayor always manages to get himself into scrapes, to insult all of the people of his city, to cause strikes and to make a total fool of himself. It is up to Mike and his staff to right these wrongs, but they always seem to find the hardest way to do it!  The Mayor is kind of dopey, but has a heart of gold and is extremely funny!

The staff consists of Carter (black, gay activist), Stuart (hmm.. how to describe Stuart... repulsive?...), Nikki (not the brightest and kind of slow to pick up on things), Janelle (black and proud), James (naive young lad from Wisconsin, gullible) and Paul (very gullible, very stupid, thrifty and greedy).  In the last series starring Mike, Caitlin is introduced.  She is a power freak also, very bright, very self assured and very... condescending.  Her and Mike clash as they both want the Mayor's full attention, although their hatred of each other changes into something else...

Mike is no longer in Spin City, as he left to concentrate on his family and on Parkinson's Disease.  Charlie Sheen now plays the Deputy Mayor, Charlie, though it's just not the same without Mike.  However, he is still the Executive Producer.
