ER-3A insert phone
tubing
Here is a picture of a pair of
insert phone tubing which needs to be replaced. This
pair of tubing is approximately one year old. Notice
that one end of the tubing (foam insert end) has
discolored and stretched more than the other. The
yellowing of the tubing is a result of the oils and other
chemicals naturally present in fingers. When
fingers come into contacting with the tubing over a period
of time, it begins to break down and wear out. The
opposite end of the tubing does not seem to be yellowing
and this is because of it does not come into direct human contact
as often.
When replacing the tubing, it is
important to pre-stretch the tubing diameter before
inserting it over the ER-3A plastic casing. If
pre-stretching is not performed, the tubing may not fit.
Forcing it down onto the casing may cause the plastic
tip on the casing to collapse.
