| Setup your computer: 1) While
surfing , 'Disable Graphics or Images' on your browser when you are
searching. Enable them
when you will find your info. If you are using IE4, install IE Powertools so you can
enable / disable images by just pushing a button.
2) Suppose you search for a word to Alta Vista . If you found too many intersting links feel free to open
many windows when searching (for those with >64MB Ram !). In case you have a window you
don't need it, don't unload it, drag 'n drop another link from the main AltaVista screen .
This is faster .
3) Finally use search programs like WebSeeker, GoZilla or Solway's
Search (74K), a tiny but powerfull search prg. Also you can
download part or all site using programs like Teleport. |

Learn better the engines: 1) On
most search engines you can put more than one word for search.
e.g. if you are looking for Hex Workshop 2.50 go to AltaVista and enter:
hex+workshop+2 (dont leave spaces between them).
2) When you saw some good pages but the file links are broken, point the mouse over the
link, and look the filename. Try search again searching for the filename:
e.g. AltaVista -> hw32v250 (= Hex Workshop 2.50)
3) Using Ftp Search, you can use other tricks:
3a) setup to "case insensitive global search" and give Dos compatible commands
i.e. hw32v2*.exe
3b) put max hits more than 15
3c) Use utilities like Speedy Gonzales to automaticaly
load your Ftp application.
