Mp3 Crossfade Tips
There are several techniques today to mix mp3 files:
1) PCDJ Phat 4.0:
After a long time of bug fixes this program is GREAT . It's too good to be FREE but
it is . The only cons for professional use is the lack of monitor channel . The
new v.4.0 can broadcast your program to live365.com
** Gold Tip ** -
Get rid of the ads !!.
Program display many ads and also loads a small ad window when running
your browser . These slows your PC performance specially when surfing .
- Install pcdj .
- Do not run PCDJ . Go to C:\Program Files
- Delete .\Time Sink & .\webHancer dir (without fear !) .
- go to C:\Windows & move tsad.dll to your ..\pcdj dir
- Delete from \Windows webhdll.dll & VcpDLL.dll .
- Moreover if you use a firewall block PCDJ from any Internet access (any service
/ any address / any port) .
... Now the programs loads & run faster without ads ! .
Also note the following tips:
- Rename WiseUpdt.exe to something else (like WiseUpdt0.exe) .
PCDJ loads this file every time it starts .
- If PCDJ mess file associations every time it starts . Go to CFG -> Software
-> [ ] use as default player (uncheck it) . Use Media Player to restore the
file associations .
- If you don't want PCDJ to download much contents from Internet , you must
install before Windows Media Player 6.4 or better .
- When making a DJ program , use 'H' to balance the fade volume bar to the
middle . There are also many other shortcuts (read the texts) .
- If you don't see the database fonts OK , is probably because PCDJ works better
if you choose Small Fonts from your Win Display Properties . (Start ->
Settings -> Control Panel -> Display -> Settings -> Advanced) .
- Your PCDJ now is portabe:
Copy the dir to another PC and it will run OK (but I don't swear about it
because it didn't work to all cases ) .
P.S. Today PCDJ 4.0 is obsolete and replaced by PCDJ Silver 1000
. However the new version carries a stupid limitation: Works only with Samll
Fonts . It's not so much deal if you use a 800x600 resolution but what about if
you have a 19'' monitor (like I do) . Even the Large Fonts looks too small in a
1280 x 1024 resolution , you can't live with Small Fonts .
Switching from one font set to another requires a reboot , so I am not willing
to do it just to use an application . So try to find a v.4.0 or even older . I
prefer v.3.8 because it's less buggy & lighter (without broadcast feature) .
2) Digital 1200SL 3.8
.
Another good application from pcdj.com . Many more tools from Pcdj Phat ,
Monitor channels (can be assigned to rear line-out of a SB Live!) , can be Midi controlled
, Xing Mp3 Encoder inside . The only cons is that you must set your Display
Fonts to Small , otherwise the program does not load at all .
P.S.: This program is obsolete now . It is integrated with PCDJ
Silver edition , but most tools reviewed here still exists .
3) BPM
Studio 3.x Very similar to Digital 1200 sl . I like more it's GUI . Record
Loops , preset sounds , Monitor channel , handles CD media nice . It's less
buggy than Digital 1200 .
4) Radio DJ
(Freeware)
. Basic & Simple .
5) out_sqr.dll
Nice cross-fade Plugin for WinAmp . You can get it from my
mirror (includes better settings) .
6) ** Gold Tip **
- Mp3Manager32 + [ WinAmp + Out_Sqr
+ RockSteady + in_mp3
v.2.22 ] = Ultimate FREE DJ Application ! (upd
5/2/01)
- In case you use WinAmp do you know WinAmp Talking Box
? FREAK !!
