Swim Inteview (Belgrade, July 08, 2003)
Mr. Filipovic introduce us firstly about your interest for Portugal?
Well, it dated via Mr. Vladimir Petric, YU National handball representative, since he had finished carrier in 'Red Star' HBC, Belgrade and moved to Perinea peninsula to Porto, Portugal. after one year been spent in Hungarian handball serie A-1.  By the way Mr. Petric is my godfather and one of my best friend since the early period of my sport activities in Belgrade... Really many marvelous words on the sport in Portugal, on the management, organization, professional relationships, etc. have been heard in last two years...

At the beginning of June you've spent some time in Braga, Portugal to meet your new Club?
Yes, due to the personal invitation of Mr. Pedro Machado, President,  I've spent four days in the City of Braga to check firstly the conditions for work, to meet my new swimmers also the management and to have some talks on the contract. So, my impressions are unforgettable... The main reason is the complete modern management and organization of the Club. Really full professional, I think the same as it can be found in Australia or USA. Even better then in Italy where I spent two seasons in Ascoli and Arezzo... All club's activity is subjected to the swimmers. And the results shouldn't be missed... I've also no doubt that all successes been reached in this and previous seasons by this club will not be lost.  The conditions exists, talented swimmers of all ages, too... We'll do our best, I'm sure...

All Portugal media presented your arriving to Braga? Was it surprise for you?

Well, as on the fact that I've never been to Portugal before, also that I had no chances to meet a mentality of the people of Braga, I was really impressed... European ghost is all around... in the positive meaning.
Many of the journalists wanted to hear what should I do in my first steps... As on the short possibility to introduce my new swimmers, I have some plans just on my first appearing at the training.
One impression which have to be mentioned is that many contiguity and similarity exist between my swimmers in Belgrade and the new one in Sporting Braga. Almost all swimmers dream to find the easiest way to reach the Olympic Games. But, my motto is: " yes, talent is o.k., no easy way exists...but only hard work should bring you successes" ... with a little luck, of course...first to stay out of sport's hurt and completely health.
My Curriculum Vitae and a web page from this site have been forwarded to all media who had shown the interest on my arriving to Braga... I would like to express my gratitude to all for their kindness, especially to the popular daily magazine Correio do Minho and Diario do Minho.

As a gift we prepared some of the articles from Portugal media issued at the end of June 2003...

On the possibilities of your best athletes?
Ok... Three to five seniors are in the position to reach Athens 2004... Raquel Felgueiras (1980), Ivo Carneiro (1984), Daniel Pereira (1983), Catia Silva (1985), Andre Costa (1987), Sara Carneiro (1988), Joao Coelho (1982) and my mission is to enable them to correct the "small knick-knack"... But also to help the younger talents and to steer them to the right way to the top.... I have personal experience from the period of my swimming activity, but also coach's experience in domain of the fast development.... But in swimming there are no secrets... All are in the books of swimming... Such a feeling between swimmer and trainer can presents that "small thing"... I'll be in Braga completely since September 01, 2003 when the serious program would be defined for all athletes in the new season.... and we'll see.

Is there any possibility for the int'l cooperation between Sporting Braga and some Serbian Club?
Of course... From all officials in Braga I've got the open doors for all kind of cooperation... As on the fact that my heart raps for SC Swim Star 2000, the first contact should be made just at the beginning of the new season.... But all others are welcome... The very first idea with may olympians is to try to reach or confirm standards here in Belgrade at the end of October at the Traditional International LEN Meting "Ante Lambasa Memorial 2003". I hope an understanding should be found by the management of Braga... On the similar possibilities I'll call Serbian Swimming Association and their Commission for the international communication.

Your recently visit of Championships of Serbia 2003 (LC)... Your impressions?
Well, little depressed... 24 Clubs participated with about 150 competitors. That is just all that Serbia has in the moment. I know that too many talents exist in this country, especially in the categories of younger pioneers and pioneers (age of 11-14). But the conditions by the pools (regrettably, the worst are in Belgrade), law funds, small interest been shown from the government especially Ministry of education and sport and so on should cast this important sport to the margin. 3 full years is passing by with the new Serbian Swimming Association Authority, but I had no chances to see any serious just 1-year program of development from the National Coach Board... That is tragical... Eight Serbian swimmers will participate in the European Junior Champ 2003 in Glasgow... And regrettably no one final can be expected. Next week, at the World FINA Champs 2003 in Barcelona only Mike Cavic eventually would have a chance to find himself there... (But all those years, he has been prepared in California, where he lives).

When should we expect you nearly in Belgrade?
I hope it should be possible just in the first micro cycle of the preparation of my Braga's athletes in the new season... nice chance to check their values also to enable them to swim out the Olympic standards should be appeared at one official LEN Meet. And that would be "Ante Lambasa Memorial 2003" in long course pool at the end of October. Well, we'll see, just at the beginning of the season when the annual plan should be finished.

Your message for Igor Rasula, Your & our Club?
Swimming have to be your way of living... not only duty... and no meter of the fact who coaches you, you're in the pool. My best wishes to Igor & all others. I keep on following the Club's results and I'll always be with SC Swim Star 2000. Good bless you...
