Greetings from LA
Mr. Milorad Mike Cavic
Yugoslav Junior & Senior Recorder
Mike Cavic in CA

The happiness and pleasure really fulfilled all our hearts. One of the best Yugoslav Swimmers, just the age of 16, the most perspective athlete in YU swimming ever, has sent us a greetings message from Los Angeles. His name is Mr. Milorad Cavic. The new pearl of our sport which arose here in this region, from our nation. Although he is living in USA now, his complete struggle to achieve the high sport values has always been tied to Partizan Swimming Club, Belgrade also our National Team. We remembered him and his fantastic swimming as a pioneer competitor at the YU National Championship in 1998, as a winner of many races with very exceptional times.

In the trials prior to Sydney 2000 last year, Mr. Milorad Cavic really showed the best results of all Yugoslav potential candidates. Unfortunately, since he lives in U.S. and the fact that his earlier times were totally unknown here, none could believe that he would be able to do something serious. Nevertheless, Mr. Cavic beside his High School and sport duties in LA came to Belgrade and participated in the Yugoslav National Championship (LC Absolute) that was held on July 2000. Although he was cadet in that moment, Mr. Cavic broke some Yugoslav cadets, juniors and seniors records in the same time and showed his true potential.

Prof. Petar Popovic Prof. Petar Popovic,  Director of Partizan Swimming Club, Belgrade, and one of the chief men in Yugoslav swimming, National Coach in Sydney 2000. He really had a nose two years ago to the sense that Mike Cavic would have a chance to become our Ian Thorpe. Our great thanks to Prof. Popovic  not only for all his effort in YU swimming, but also for the gratifying of this young swimmer, he added him to our National Team for Sydney. And remember, Mr. Mike Cavic will really have a great swimming future. All his Yugoslav swimming fans too.

After Mr. Cavic's successes at the YU National LC Championships 2000, Yugoslav Olympic Committee decided to invite him to represent Yugoslavia in Sydney 2000. For the first time in our swimming chronology (including events from the former Yugoslavia), one cadet competitor was included in our National Senior Team. Full of emotion all Swim Star 2000 SC, Belgrade members and fans were waiting to see his results in Home Bush Bay. Moreover, to our great pleasure, he really showed his potency. He participated in two races. In 100 m backstroke Cavic reached 42nd place of  55 competitors in total (time 0:58.25) and regrettably in 100 m fly (his specialty) it was DQ. although he touched the first in qualification heat 4 (time 0:54,28).
