9th October 2003: For the past one week, I noticed a young siamese-X in the void deck of the block next to mine. She was probably not more than 5 months' old. Extremely friendly, she was easily loved and there were many cat lovers in the area to keep her from being hungry. On this evening, I saw a white discharge on her behind. This was easily spotted on her dark-brown hair. I decided to bring her to MettaCattery for observation, KIV treatment with antibiotic. I didn't have a carrier with me then and so I put her into a thick paper bag with holes made for ventilation. Not long after I drove off, she burst through the bag. Showing absolutely no sign of fear, she viewed her new environment with great curiosity. She then stood with her front legs on the dashboard and took in the sight of the road ahead. Then she went under the seat and emerged onto the backseat. Soon she had her front legs on the window, looking out like a dog would. Passengers in a bus travelling alongside the car were wide-eyed amused at the sight of this kitten. She then decided to seek out my thighs to rest the rest of the journey. While waiting for the traffic lights to turn green, I took out Aloe Vera Wet Wipe to clean her ears, her paws and even a body-wipe! And she remained absolutely serene throughout. What an unusual kitten! At the cattery, Siew Ying carried her and she did not struggle for the 15 or more minutes while we got ready a cubicle for her. There was not the slightest of tremor despite barkings of dogs and the sight of so many cats in the cattery. Later in the evening, I decided to name her "Sadhu" which means "Rejoice" in Pali. 11th October 2003: There was still some discharge from her private parts, so she was started on Clavulox. The discharge cleared completely after about 3 days of antibiotic. She is now free to roam the cattery and despite being a newbie, she was "caught" slapping some Senior cats! 24th October 2003, 8.30pm: Sadhu's coat has grown darker. I carried her and cleaned her ears again. Then I trimmed her nails. And again, she remained absolutely still without a meow of protest! 14th November 2003: "Revolution" applied on the back of Sadhu as she has patches of hair loss, possibly due to either mite or flea. 2nd December 2003: Sadhu is recovering from the patchy hair loss. She patiently waits at the entrance of the cattery for someone to bring her home. Sent: Monday, December 08, 2003 11:05 AM
Dear Siew Ying,
Just wanted to let you know that Sadhu (renamed Maisy) has settled in well into our condo. The stray cat who visits us was initially shocked by her arrival but after Maisy showed no fear they are playing together well. I will send you some photographs soon and please feel free to come and visit her. Could you please let me know whether she has had any of her cat jabs as I will take her to the vets this week. Kind regards Louise Sent: Monday, December 15, 2003 9:19 AM
Subject: Maisy update You will be pleased to hear that Maisy's cold is much better now and although she is still sneezing she is back to her lively self. She has to go back to the vets tonight for her check up but I am hoping there will be no problems there. The pet therapy sounds like a good idea and I would be happy to bring Maisy along. The stray cat who was visiting us has stopped coming. I think it is partly because she has to be kept away from Maisy and so she got jealous. it is a shame and although we keep looking for her we haven't seen her for about a week. Therefore when Maisy is better and settled in we may be looking for another cat to adopt as company. I will keep you informed on that. In the meantime here are some photographs that I promised you of Maisy. She already seems a bit bigger. She has had an enjoyable weekend knocking all the christmas decorations off the tree! Kind regards Louise Sent: Sunday, February 01, 2004 9:45 AM
Hi Maisy is fine. She was sterlised just before chinese new year and she has
recovered well. She still has a few bald patches which need attending too but
as she has been to the vets so much recently with the injections, microchipping
and sterlising and she doesn't seem to be in any discomfort I am giving it
another week to see if it improves before I take her back to the
vets. Louise |
