Subject: Rachel is given her freedom again and progress report

Dear Friends,

Thanks for your concern over Rachel.

I just came back, she is doing fine.  Will keep your updated with a simple log for the next few days, and then I will give a periodic progress report : )

24 Jan (Sat)

5.40pm Rachel left MC for home

8.40pm I fed and left her downstairs at her old turf.  Earlier I went down to rub her scent onto the void deck chairs so that she recognise her original territory.  I rub her scent too at another spot as a backup territory for her.

8.40-9pm Me and dad took turns to "jaga" the void deck. Rachel was meowing loudly.  Looks sad but comfortable. We went for dinner and checked on her when we returned.

25 Jan (Sun)

12.30am Went to check on her, but there were some "harmless" youths there so I did not feed her.  Here alot of youth deliquents @ night that help scare off dogs at night.

15 meters away, the mailbox gray and white cat was all curled up in the cold weather.  I fed her.  This mailbox cat and my mum's black stray used to share a tri-ownership turf with Rachel. With them around, I feel safer. Rachel was the fiercest then.

5.45am Rachel dashed out of the bush when she saw me.  Meowed hungrily and gave her food.  Her fur was wet as she was sitting in the bush and it was still drizzling. The rain was horrendous, never stop at all the whole night.

Fed the other cats and came back to her.  I walked her to her backup territory also to let her familarise with the area.  I sayang her and rub her scent continuosly all over in the two areas that we transversed.

Bushy tail (handsome Persian tom who was chasing her earlier) came to share food.  She did not run away much.

1230pm  Rachel meowed loudly as I came to her.  Lead her to her bush and fed her there - I want her to stay there (well at least for the next few days) so that she can establish her territory and that she don't go to other areas that is out of view (that prevent me monitoring her progress).

5.30pm  Rachel was sleeping in the bush again.  She appeared still insecure.  Some irresponsible feeder placed some food together with cans and metal lids.  My mum lead Rachel to eat some.  We threw the can and lid away.  Here, some of the feeders like to throw food all over the floor. Sigh.  I lead her to see her rival, black cat so that she recall familiar faces/ and rivals.

8.30pm  Came down to give some TLC and gave some snacks to her.  I left seeing her looking half interested in a passing cockroach. Hunting skills be next on list.

11.30pm  Rachel was no where to be found.  I was scared stiff.  Finally found her at the bicycle area - earlier that was where the cat food was placed.  It's good that she marked out a new area.  I lead her around to walk behind my block for more orientation walk.  She seemed more steady then me now, keep dashing in between my legs and surely knowing where she was walking around.  Signs of confidence.  Thus, I brought her to view her two old friends. Mailbox cat and black cat.  All within the same block who use to "share" turf with her.  Rachel hissed at mailbox cat (an unfriendly but good sign as Rachel is gaining back her confidence as queen).  They appeared equal.

There was a showdown on the top of the coffeeshop roof.  Hilter (a burmese cat with black patch over top of mouth like Hilter's moustache) and Persian tom fighting darn loud.  Some cat must be in heat.  Worried that people might get pissed off and attack the other well behaved cats in the area.

27 Jan (Mon)

6.10am I crawled lazily out of bed and flew downstairs as the sweeper and traffic is gonna build up soon.  Rachel was found on the stone table, where she used to hang out.  A very positive sign that she is now confident to be in the open (well...at least at night, which is quieter).

I brought her to her backup territory to feed her.  She still misses to be sayanged, so I gave her lotsa sayang in between yawns.  Little mailbox cat came along after a while.  Rachel jumped into action.  Rachel hissed and then fought back (verbally) and with some wayang stances.  The mailbox cat was terrified. I separated the two by leading mailbox cat away to eat.  I'm glad Rachel found her niche back as queen. Enough of testing with rival one.  Will test with black kitty next round.

I lead her to a few walks and then left.  One of the malay family upstairs was looking (I believe they are the irresponsible feeder family).
