17th November 2003; 5.40pm: After work, on my way towards the bus stop, I saw this little black kitten on the side of a pavement. It appeared lifeless. I squat down to feel the kitten. It was still alive. I picked it up and saw that its eyes were glued shut ny pus. I took it back to the office, cleaned the eyes and applied an eye ointment. I also wiped off pieces of  caked mud from its fur with aloe vera wet wipe. The left eye was able to open about three-quarters but the right eye was covered by the third eyelid. There was also dried discharge on its nose that was removed with wet cotton.

With the help of Anthony who drove, the kitten was brought to MettaCattery.  A "Namo Amitabha" mantra was playing at the cattery when we arrived at about 7pm. So I decided to name this kitten Ebony Namo.

**rescuer**

23rd November 2003: Ebony's eyes are not longer discharging.  The right eye is cloudy, indicating that the infection has scarred the cornea. The left eye is clear. He is a frisky little fella. Girl-girl lives up to her name of being "Metta Mother" when she readily licked Ebony into her fold that now includes Mickey, Yuen-Kwan and Yiki.

He would surely have perished if left on the pavement a week ago. He recovered well from his ordeal and is now an ebony of friendliness and joy.

3rd January 2004    Ebony is now a frisky little kitten at the cattery and a friend to all the "giant" older residents!
