A cat in a carrier was left at the entrance of the
metta cattery with a note pleading for him or her to be taken in. It was in the hot sun! The volunteer who was at the cattery assessed the cat to be very fierce and couldn't be handled.

Subject: Enquiry

Dear Metta Cattery,
I am writing to enquire the health of my cat (Manja) which I left outside your gate on Thursday night, 7 Feb 2002.

Please do not be mad for my action, but I will be very grateful if you could email to me about her well-being.

Thank you.

Regards,

Concern and still loving owner

Dear Volunteers,

Once again, I ask for forgiveness. I know it is irresponsible of me to leave it outside the MC, but but I didn't know there was a virus spreading.

I couldn't bring her home. I just cannot. On hand, I have another 3 cats and a kitten to look after. She cannot get along with the rest of them. I know she is fierce - she will always be ...You have to take extra time .........to coax her. Calling her names over and over again will help. She eats Friskies biscuits (Gourmet flavour).

She has not been vaccinated before. She is roughly between 7 - 8 yrs of age.

Pls try to understand I cannot bring her home .......I took a long time and a lot of courage to do what I did.

For the expenses, I will take of it. If you need to bring it to the Vet, I will "fork out" the bill. Just e-mail me......

Once again, don't be angry. I cannot bring her home. And I cannot come down to MC.

Yours Sincerely,

Yang Indah

11th February 2002 manja (name given by 'owner' & left outside mc overnite) is confined in cubicle opposite penny's. she's a very nervous cat. think it's best to just leave her alone in the carrier (she's been hiding in the carrier since) but pls leave the food & water bowls on the plank, cose to the carrier. she's also not pee/poo since brought in on friday. if this continues, may need to bring to vet. feel very sorry looking at manja ... very nice face but extremely fearful of 'intruders'
17th February 2002
manja pee & poo in the carrier but refused to let anyone change & clean it. 'forced' her out of hiding to clean as is not healthy for her. she has also started eating & drinking, as evidenced by reduced quantity in the food & water bowls.
however, can the owner pls let us know if manja is sterilised, otherwise, will need to arrange for her to be done.

p.s. from exchange of email with yang indah, we learnt that Manja is not neutered. We will send her for sterilisation once she is less afraid. The cost of sterilisation is about $100 and Pet-taxi fare is about $40.
24th March 2002

Karen couldn't confine her in her carrier last thursday for the sterilisation. Today Salie succeeded and Manja is now at Mt. Pleasant Vet.
29th March 2002

Manja is now back in the cattery. Jenny, a volunteer, who attended to the cattery today, said that she could carry her! Even thought Manja was still wearing Elizabethan collar to protect the sterlisation wound, Jenny was pleasantly surprised as Manja greeted her in the past with nothing short of hissings and snarls!

Hey, I think you all did a great job with Manja after reading her story. She was very attention seeking when I went into the cage to see Rachel. She didn't seem fierce at all. Though after I played with her and turned my back to her to look at Rachel, she whacked me from behind as though saying "hey, aren't you suppose to be playing with me???? " ha ha.

Yes, she does bite but it doesn't hurt if you don't jerk your hand away and she always stop when I gave her a stern "no"..

Would love her to be mine but can't have any cats at home. Maybe she will bully my pug...hmmm...  Really pretty face and nice, huggable body.

Well, thanks again for letting me part of the team. Let's work towards a better life for the cats. :o)

Cheers,
Mary

ah... manja... cat with attitude! I like!

I think Manja is slowly learning to trust me. Yesterday, I called her and she came out of her box looking for some loving. After sayanging her a while, she seemed to want to be carried so I decided to do so and bring her out for a nice walk (I do the walking though.. ha ha).

While I was walking, she kept looking around soaking in the 'new' environment. She seemed to enjoy the new sights and experience though. Seeing Helen sitting with Coca on her lap, I decided to sit down as well with Manja on my lap.

She definitely seemed happy, wanting attention, licking me (how odd) and as per a lot of cats, after a while she prefered to sit on my lap without being touched.
Took her quite a while with her tumbling around my thigh trying to move from one direction to the other to look around. (really tumble! ha ha... not as agile as normal cats leh) She finally jumped onto the ground and sat beside me... I noticed she would move around slowly but always keeping a part of her like her tail on my leg/foot as though I am the security banket. She would flick her tail but it always touches my leg. The other cats got curious of her but she definitely warned them off.. he he...

After about 5minutes or so of surveying the environment and seemingly trying to gain enough courage, she finally bounced away from me and ran to one of the pipes (the sight was really funny cos she literally bounced and when she ran, her belly swayed left and right.. he he.. but so cute).

She sat in the pipe looking out at the fields and at mango for a while till I coaxed her to come out and carry her back to her carrier (home) where she happily snuggled in to sleep.

I felt it was a wondeful experience as I know Manja rarely gets to come out (she come out cant get back..too fat... he he) and a lot of people are apprehensive to handle her.

Beware though, her way of getting attention is by biting but she never mean to hurt.. and she is very responsive to changes of voice tone like when she take a nip and I give her a stern 'no' she immediately let go.

One day if I get my own home, i would like to take Manja home. ha ha..

Meanwhile, I will visit her weekly and let her come out for walkies and exercise. :o) She definitely need to work out more man...
