Bob Mitchell of Vyndykator - Back
1. How would you describe your music?

Bob Mitchell: I would say it's cross over of several genres. More specifically, Power and Doom with a lot of aggression. It's safe for me to say that the music I am currently writing with VYNDYKATOR will surpass anything I've ever done. I think that I've matured as an artist. Plus the input of the other members has taken what I had originally envisioned to a much higher level.

2. What are your biggest influences?

Bob Mitchell: As far as singers are concerned they would have to be, Ian Gillan, Jon Oliva, Paul Di'Anno, John Gallagher, Udo Dirkshneider, Rob Halford, Ronnie James Dio and Tim "Ripper" Owens. As for the bands, I would have to say Accept, Savatage, Saxon, Anvil, Deep Purple, Raven, Judas Priest, Gillan, Angelwitch are my all time favorites.

3. What influence do you think your bands has in music and metal today?

Bob Mitchell: Well honestly, I wouldn't know. Although I would really love to find out which bands they would be. I mean if any of my past bands influenced anyone, musically or otherwise, I think that a tribute like that is priceless. It really is something to be proud of. I'm not sure if I influenced anyone. If I did, I was never told nor did I ever read about it.

4. What made you want to be in the band? And if you weren’t in the band what would you be doing now?

Bob Mitchell: I'll answer this as simply as possible. This is something that your born into. If I weren't fronting Metal bands I know that I would be in show business in some other capacity.

5. Are any band members in side projects? If so what are they, and explain a little about them.

Bob Mitchell: My bass player Steve and I are in ALCHEMY X which is also a full time project for us both. We're in the midst of recording the next A-X album "11:59:59". My drummer Mark is in a fusion rock band called NAKED MOLE RATS. My guitarist Billy Pena has a band called DAHMER'S FRIDGE and Rob Oriani is solely devoted to VYNDYKATOR.

6. How would you feel if a band took their sound from yours and became very well known?

Bob Mitchell: I wouldn't take offense to it. After all, no one in music is "original." I would have to say that if a band made it big on our sound is because they were much smarter. Life is to short to worry about things like that.

7. What current bands do you like or respect?

Bob Mitchell: Let's see I really like ZANDELLE, I also admire IRON SAVIOR, DESTINY'S END, GOTHIC KNIGHTS, CHINCHILLA and OCTOBER 31.

8. How many demos/albums do you have? Tell me about them!!

Bob Mitchell: How about I just read off to you my discography list. OK here it is...

Metal Massacre Five (Metal Blade 1984 ATTACKER)
Battle At Helm's Deep (Metal Blade 1985 ATTACKER)
Best Of Metal Blade Vol. 1 (Metal Blade 1986 ATTACKER)
Sleepy Hollow (Ironworks/Azra International 1991 SLEEPY HOLLOW)
Best of Metal Massacre (Metal Blade Box Set 1998 ATTACKER)
A Legend Retold (Old Metal 2000 SLEEPY HOLLOW)
True Metal Triumphant (Sentinel Steel 2000 ATTACKER)

Then I guess you can add that I've also got
"The Rise and Fall" that will be coming out on the Heavy Metal Heroes label in October 2001 which is a "best-of" release for SLEEPY HOLLOW. Then of course I've got "Heaven Sent From Hell" which will be coming out on Battle Zone Records later this year in 2001 for VYNDYKATOR as well as "11:59:59" with ALCHEMY X in 2002.

9. What demo/album do you like the best?

Bob Mitchell: I'm obviously proud of all my work especially my upcoming releases because its all fresh and brand new. I'm looking forward to a lot of the challenges that are laid out for me in the years to come. My past accomplishments will always have a place in my heart. But as you can tell, I have no doubt moved on!

10. What is the meaning behind the songs?

Bob Mitchell: I don't know really. What I do know that I have contributed to some great Metal songs with my ideas and lyrics over the years and that's all I care about. I'm not one to analyze what my songs are about. I'm not a philosopher nor a politician. I'm just an entertainer. Nothing more than a personality that happens to have a gift for writing music and lyrics.

11. What are the bands favorite songs?

Bob Mitchell: Well from the Attacker days they really like my "Battle" stuff especially "(Call on..)" and "Disciple". From the Hollow days they unanimously like "Hypnosis". On the VYNDYKATOR front we love all our of songs because they're ours.

12. If you could play with any band who would it be and why?

Bob Mitchell: ACCEPT because they're the best! Next.

13. Who writes the majority of the music?

Bob Mitchell: We all contribute. This is truly a group effort. There are no leaders and I prefer it that way because I don't like being told what to do so I'm not going to disrespect anyone in my band by doing what I'm not in favor of. We're in this together.

14. Who has been the favorite band you've played with and why?

Bob Mitchell: When I fronted Attacker I would have to say FATES WARNING they were just great! As time went on I became really good friends with them. When I fronted Sleepy Hollow I would most definitely say SAVATGE. They were absolute professionals. They were also very down to earth people, I admire them greatly.

15. Where did you get the band name from?

Bob Mitchell: King Fowley came up with the name which was befitting to the circumstances of last year so full credit goes to the King himself.

16. Describe what the band is like live?

Bob Mitchell: We're very traditional in our approach so expect to see a very loud, rude Heavy Metal show!!

17. If you are gonna do any kind of video what would be in it?

Bob Mitchell: Don't expect any videos from VYNDYKATOR, We're an underground Metal band! The only way to see us is at a live performance and we'll be doing plenty of them in the months to come.

18. Are there any touring plans made; if so tell me about them?

Bob Mitchell: VYDYKATOR will be performing nothing but festivals along with a few selected engagements in our home area. It just wouldn't be feasible for us to tour especially with our status as a cult band. Speaking of which, we will be debuting at this years POWERMAD Festival in Tall Cedars, Maryland and will be paticipating at next years CLASSIC METAL FEST 2 which I think will be held in Ohio as well as some festivals in Europe. The same plan of action will apply for ALCHEMY X. So come one come all!!

19. Where do you think the band will be 20 years from now?

Bob Mitchell: Retired with a respectable body of work and a hefty bank account.
