Don Anderson of Sculptured - Back
1. How did the band get started? How did you meet and how long have you been together?

Don Anderson: The present incarnation of Sculptured has only been around for a year. Brian and I are the only original members. Once the debut came out, the present members more or less found me and we all began to rehearse for "Apollo Ends." This is a very stable lineup right now. Sculptured as a band has been around for almost five years.

2. How would you describe your music?

Don Anderson: Progressive and challenging.

3. What are your biggest influences?

Don Anderson: Iron Maiden is my number one. Outside of Metal I am heavily influenced by Ennio Morricone, with regards to instrumentation and experimentation.

4. What influence do you think your bands has in music and metal today?

Don Anderson: I hope that we are advancing Metal as a style. I hope we are expanding it by incorporating new composing techniques and using different instruments not normally found in Metal.

5. What made you want to be in the band? And if you weren’t in the band what would you be doing now?

Don Anderson: I have always wanted to be in a band and have since I was thirteen. I suppose if I wasn't musical, I would be a writer or a filmmaker.

6. Are any band members in side projects? If so what are they, and explain a little about them.

Don Anderson: None of the members are in any side projects.

7. How would you feel if a band took their sound from yours and became very well known?

Don Anderson: I would like to see a band try to "take" our sound. Good luck!

8. What current bands do you like or respect?

Don Anderson: When, Ulver, Seigmen, SWANS, the new Iron Maiden is brilliant. Godspeed You Black Emperor, Pan Thy Monium, Blood Duster. There are so many bands, tomorrow it will be different bands.

9. How many demos/albums do you have? Tell me about them!!

Don Anderson: I used to do a fanzine called Infernal Archives, so I used to have a ton of demos. Right now I don't have that many. I have some original demos from Nile, Morgion, Blood Duster, the GODLY Paraxism from Finland. I also have the Impetigo demo, "All We Need Is Cheese." My CD collection is about half Modern Classical music, the other half is Metal, old progressive Rock, Experimental music and soundtracks.

10. What demo/album do you like the best?

Don Anderson: My favorite demos are all the demos by Paraxism. They are AMAZING! Imagine Amorphis crossed with Death Rock music. I love them. I also still like the last Victims of Internal Decay demo.

11. What is the meaning behind the songs?

Don Anderson: That's too easy! I can't tell you!

12. What are the bands favorite songs?

Don Anderson: I guess I have to be cliché and say I like all of them because I do. But, some were more successful in becoming what I wanted them to be and those would be Snow Covers All and Above the 60th Parallel from the new album.

13. What does the future hold for the band?

Don Anderson: The next album, then the next, then the next. I don't stop to think about the now, it is always what will we do tomorrow.

14. If you could play with any band who would it be and why?

Don Anderson: Naked City.

15. Who writes the majority of the music?

Don Anderson: I write the music and lyrics.

16. Who has been the favorite band you’ve played with and why?

Don Anderson: We've never played live. But sometimes the band Thy Infernal comes over and we play with our Tonka Trucks and Lincoln Logs.

17. Where did you get the band name from?

Don Anderson: The name represents my feelings towards composition. I think of composing as sculpting in that I create chords by adding notes or create passages by deconstructing musical patterns.

18. Describe what the band is like live?

Don Anderson: I can't, we have never played live.

19. If you are gonna do any kind of video what would be in it?

Don Anderson: Cannibals, Zombies, black gloved killers and Steve Guttenberg.

20. Are there any touring plans made; if so tell me about them?

Don Anderson: None.

21. Where do you think the band will be 20 years from now?

Don Anderson: Partying with Frank Grimes.
