1. How did the band get started? How did you
meet and how long have you been together?
Efthimis Karadimas: We are together as a band since the dawn
of the last decade of the millenium; we introduced our selves to
the scene worldwide with Vanity demo tape. Our first and only demo
release. The whole thing started initially as a hobby, evolved to
a bad habit and now it's our bloody life itself!
2. How would you describe your music?
Efthimis Karadimas: Poems that talk of passion; love and
hate with a teardrop of grotesque human aroma in ... I can talk
for hours and hours and still not come up with a simple, coherent
description of how Nightfall music sounds like. I think that's why
I'm not a music reviewer right?
3. What are your biggest influences?
Efthimis Karadimas: Biggest? None! The pantheon of our influences
is as big as space and all its black holes... Our releases are so
polymorphic that none of them sounds like the other.
4. What influence do you think your band has in music and metal
today?
Efthimis Karadimas: One of the characteristics of Nightfall
is our uncompromising steps in discography all those years. Most
bands chose from the very beginning what way they will follow and
eventually, with a precious aid by a specialized producer build
up their career. We prefer to keep that romantic spirit in our art.
It's good, healthy and moreover excited to evolve the natural way.
Of course, it needs a lot of effort and self-confidence for walking
against the trend most times is disastrous. Nevertheless, as soon
as people start understanding what's going on and supporting you,
you feel much much better. Why? Because you came all the long way
alone, you are not brought here by anybody.
5. Who if any do you consider the bands idols?
Efthimis Karadimas: I'm afraid we have killed our idols already...
6. What made you want to be in the band? And if you weren't in
the band what would you be doing now?
Efthimis Karadimas: The prime reason for this band, Nightfall,
was to be our spiritual sanctuary; inside it to keep all those delicate
dreams, thoughts, theories of ours, hidden from sun's poisonous
light like a negative photo film - our own lives' photo film. Nowadays
things have become more "pro" to say so, yet our community is still
alive. If I wasn't in a band I would probably looked forward to
create one...
7. Are any band members in side projects? If so what are they,
and explain a little about them.
Efthimis Karadimas: We are all involved in music generally.
There are a lot of tasks in process here and there. Yet, Nightfall
is Nightfall. It is an alive community as I told you that require
a hell of a work not only musically but also spiritually! OK, it
might sound funny, but as whores say, "sex is different from love"!
Right?!
8. How would you feel if a band took their sound from yours and
became very well known?
Efthimis Karadimas: Pissed off I guess.
9. What current bands do you like or respect?
Efthimis Karadimas: I respect all those bands/musicians who
promote their own music; I dislike puppets and artificial "stars",
if you know what I mean.
10. How many demos/albums do you have? Tell me about them!!
Efthimis Karadimas: Oh, we released only one demo tape back
in 1991. Immediately we signed to the French label Holy Records
and since then we have released four full-length albums and two
maxi ones all with them. On May 10 our new effort Diva Futura is
coming out.
11. What album do you like the best?
Efthimis Karadimas: I guess all of them. However, since Diva
Futura is the youngest one the truth is that I haven't got enough
of it yet.
12. What is the meaning behind the songs?
Efthimis Karadimas:What we do try to do is to inspire people;
making people think is by far better than trying to lead them. "Messiahs"
and preachers is not our cup of tea I must say, nor it is our fan's
one. Most of our lyrics are poems; strictly metaphorical phrases
are standing there for each individual to translate upon his/her
personal experiences, views and knowledge. It's good to play with
words indeed. You can build a million pictures with them, and people
like that. Moreover they like to be respected by you, the author.
13. What are the bands favorite songs?
Efthimis Karadimas: Of course all!
14. What does the future hold for the band?
Efthimis Karadimas: Diva Futura is coming out this May as
I mentioned before. We have a full booked time ahead promoting this
album; a lot of promo trips, video stuff, touring, releasing a comic,
etc
15. If you could play with any band who would it be and why?
Efthimis Karadimas: We have done a few good shows with Paradise
Lost; the guys are doing OK on stage really. It is always a pleasure
to playing with them.
16. Who writes the majority of the music?
Efthimis Karadimas:Our adorable fans?..
17. Who has been the favorite band you've played with and why?
Efthimis Karadimas:Slayer. They kill on stage.
18. Where did you get the band name from?
Efthimis Karadimas: Oh, what a question... you can say from
Candlemass' Nightfall album, but, no it's not true. I cannot remember,
really. It probably flashed in my mind like that back then. See,
it's been something like eight years already! So...
19. Describe what the band is like live?
Efthimis Karadimas:Noisy, aggressive, brutal, and always
afraid of thinking if our sound man has done his job right!
20. If you are gonna do any kind of video what would be in it?
Efthimis Karadimas: We have done already two. Our first is
being featured in our site as well (actually a part of it).
21. Are there any touring plans made; if so tell me about them?
Efthimis Karadimas: Yes, for autumn time. Bookings will start
as soon as the album is out.
22. Where do you think the band will be 20 years from now?
Efthimis Karadimas: I hope here, alive and kicking and being
interviewed by you dear Jeffrey! |
