Queen of the Nighttime World Part 5
"H-hi, Jon. It’s an honor to meet you. I’m a huge fan and I’ve been waiting to meet you for 15 years." Veronica greeted feeling her face flush as she held out her hand to greet him.
"Hello, Veronica, and the pleasure’s all mine," Jon said with a smile and a blush that did not go unnoticed by Gene and Terri as Veronica thought Those eyes and that smile. Oh my God. Then Jon, no longer shy and reserved around her, eyed the hand Veronica extended to him and replied, "Now put down your hand. That’s not how I greet devoted fans like yourself." Veronica gave him a questioning look as Jon held out his arms and hugged her, rendering both of them speechless and pulsating with heat and electricity at their closeness.
When their embrace ended Veronica found herself shocked at the fact her dream of meeting Jon had become a reality. She thought Jon was gorgeous with his long, dark hair and loved the way his blue jeans clung to what appeared to be an ample crotch, his muscular arms and hairy chest that his black leather vest accentuated nicely. What do I say now? Veronica thought, but luckily found her thoughts interrupted by Jon continuing their conversation.
"So Gene and Terri told me all about you and your relationship with Paul," Jon mentioned.
"All good, I hope?"
Terri answered with a smile, "Of course it was good. Like I’m gonna rag on my best friend."
"I know. I was just teasing," Veronica answered returning her smile.
Beautiful smile, eyes, hair, body. I better not let myself get in too deep. Jon thought.
"And yes, Veronica, it was all good. Their description of you didn’t do you justice, though. You’re not beautiful at all. You’re a goddess," Jon complimented his face flushed and his voice shaking a little as he was shy when it came to women.
"Why thank you, Jon. You’re quite nice on the eyes yourself," Veronica said then thought Oh good LORD, Veronica! Paul’s brand of charm is rubbing off on you. What’s wrong, womyn?
"Thanks. You’re too kind," Jon replied not bothered by the charm she exhibited reflecting on both Terri’s description of her and the fact she’s Paul’s girlfriend.
Meanwhile, Gene and Terri moved out of earshot of Veronica and Jon.
"Just look at them! I’ve never seen two people blush so much in my life!" Gene exclaimed.
"I know, especially Veronica. She’s got it bad. It’s a good thing she and Paul decided on an open relationship before he left for Los Angeles. Otherwise, she’d be in utter agony," Terri said.
"I agree. And Jon’s pathetic over her already and he’s hardly talked to her. If he’s not careful, he’ll fall in love with her and that would be sad for him."
"Yes and stressful for Veronica since under that brash exterior, lies a sensitive, caring human being. Kind of like someone else I know…" Terri said running her hands up Gene’s chest.
Gene gave her a knowing grin before kissing her after which the two walked back to Jon and Veronica who seemed to have forgotten all about them.
"Hey guys. I think Terri and I are gonna head back to the hotel since Paul had to leave town and we can’t do a soundcheck and a rehearsal without all of us present," Gene told them.
"All right. Well it was nice meeting you, Terri, and it was especially nice meeting you, Veronica," Jon said.
"Oh, I’m not going anywhere. I thought I’d hang out with you a little longer, meet the rest of the band, and watch you guys jam, if it’s all right with you, of course," Veronica inquired.
Jon smiled replying, "I’d be more than happy to introduce you to Richie and the boys and let you sit in on the rehearsal."
"Then it’s settled. Terri, Gene, I’ll catch up with you all later."
Gene and Terri gave each other knowing glances and put their arms around each other’s shoulders. "Okay. That’s cool. Take your time and have fun!" Terri said.
"I will. Bye you guys!"
"Bye, Veronica," the two said in unison as they left the stadium.
"Let’s go sit down," Jon suggested leading Veronica to sit on the front row of the stadium with him.
As they seated themselves Jon asked, "You said you’ve been a fan for 15 years? Is that correct?"
"Yes, if my ‘fuzzy math’ is correct," Veronica answered with a sly smile.
Jon laughed aloud and responded, "Good one, Veronica. Terri mentioned we share similar political views."
"Yes, I’m a liberal, Democrat, feminist, ecologically concerned citizen through and through!" Veronica affirmed.
"But you do realize there’s no hole in the ozone layer," Jon joked.
"I know. What were those crazy environmentalists thinking?"
The two laughed at their sarcastic joking about George W. Bush and the Republican Party. They both felt comfortable talking to one another with their shyness now a memory.
"I may regret asking this question, but what else did Terri and Gene say about me?"
"The first words out of their mouths were, ‘She’s hot!’"
Veronica smiled and said, "Awww. They’re so sweet. That was nice of them."
Jon gave her an amused look saying, "You don’t mind your friends, especially female friends, thinking you’re hot?"
"Not at all. It’s a compliment to know my friends think highly of me," Veronica explained.
"Very cool. Anyway, they also said you are blunt, direct, and funny. They weren’t lying, either, though I’m sure I haven’t even scratched the surface with hearing your bluntness," Jon observed touching her shoulder.
"Astute observation, Jon. I’m just getting warmed up."
"Terri recounted your relationship with Paul to me. It sounds like you guys have got a great thing going. Congratulations to both of you."
"Thanks. We do have a great thing going. Paul drives me crazy and he’s a challenge, but I love him dearly and wouldn’t change him for anything."
"That’s wonderful, Veronica. I know I don’t know you very well, but you seem like a cool womyn who deserves nothing but the best."
"If you don’t stop complimenting me, I might start getting conceited," Veronica joked, "Seriously though, thanks. I appreciate it."
"Well, are you ready to meet the rest of the band?"
"Ready when you are."
"Then let’s go," Jon said smiling as the two went backstage to meet the rest of the band…
………………………………………………………………………………………………
As they went backstage, Jon and Veronica found themselves amidst amps, guitars, keyboards, and drums. Veronica noticed Richie Sambora strumming his guitar tuning it and then proceeding to tune what looked like Jon’s guitar. Once in a while Richie would let out a hearty, bellowing laugh in which the others joined as they all joked with one another. Veronica saw Hugh MacDonald tuning his bass, Tico Torres sitting behind the drums, and David Bryan periodically playing a couple of chords on the keyboards.
"Let me open the curtain here real quick since they haven’t noticed us approaching and so that you can see us for this concert called An Evening with Veronica Lee and Bon Jovi," Jon whispered to Veronica who smiled and felt goose bumps feeling his breath so close to her ear. She watched him open the curtain and then the rest of the band look towards the curtain and Jon.
"Hey, Jon. What’s up? You ready to roll?" Richie asked.
"Yes, but before we do, there’s someone I’d like you to meet," Jon answered with Veronica joining him.
"Veronica Lee, meet my friends and band mates. Guys, meet Veronica Lee. She’s a longtime fan and Paul Stanley’s girlfriend."
"Hi, guys."
"Hello," Richie flirtatiously greeted eyeing her figure and eyeing Jon giving him a thumbs-up gesture to which Jon merely smiled and rolled his eyes. Veronica didn’t notice this as she continued greeting David, Tico, and Hugh.
"Veronica’s here to listen to us rehearse and watch us act like fools," joked Jon.
"Oh, cool. Hope you’re not easily offended, Veronica. We can get, well a little colorful at times," David said.
"Oh, you don’t have to worry about that. You won’t say anything I haven’t heard or said myself at some point."
"Well, sometimes we get a little crude," Tico explained.
"YOU get a little crude, but not me. I’m the paragon of virtue and morality," joked Richie.
The band and Veronica laughed aloud as the latter added, "Yeah right. I’ve read my interviews, watched my videos, and seen those pictures from Jamaica, Mr. Hedonism II patron, and you all are no more paragons of morality than I am flat-chested!" Veronica sarcastically pointed out with a smile.
A brief silence ensued as each man looked as if thinking, "Did she say what I thought she said?"
"Oh man, Richie. She really got you," Jon remarked.
"Hey, you’re not off the hook. You’re the one who gargled and said you once knew a girl who could do that and almost married her!" Veronica observed again.
"Holy shit! This gal’s hilarious! She’s managed to cut all of us down without racking up enemies. We oughtta invite you to our parties and barbecues. You’d fit right in!" Richie exclaimed.
"Yeah, she would," Jon said red from sidesplitting laughter.
"I told you I was just getting warmed up," Veronica said touching Jon’s arm causing the same reaction in him as when he touched her.
"And you weren’t kidding!" Jon answered.
"Okay Veronica, why don’t you sit on the front row? We’ll just take a few minutes to finish tuning and touch base then we’re all yours," Jon said.
"Sounds like a plan," Veronica responded walking offstage to sit on the front row.
Richie watched to make sure she was out of earshot before exclaiming to Jon, "Damn, man! She’s fucking hot! Paul’s got it all: a successful career, cool friends, and a gorgeous girlfriend half his age!"
"Yeah, man. Thanks for introducing us," David added.
"Now guys, don’t talk about her that way. She’s off limits," Jon defensively replied.
Richie grinned and teased, "You like her don’t you? You wish Paul wasn’t in the picture and you were there to take his place."
"I do not. She’s just a cool womyn who shares the same liberal ideas and political affiliations as you and me who happens to be a fan of ours, Rich." Jon explained.
"Bullshit, Jon! You’re so transparent! We saw the way you looked at her and it wasn’t the way friends look at one another, either. You want her for yourself and I think she’s attracted to you, too," replied Tico.
"Ok, okay. I’ll admit. She is beautiful and yes, I wish she were single, but she’s not. She’s off limits to me and that’s the end of this discussion," Jon replied picking up his guitar putting it in place.
"All right man, we’ll back off." David said.
"Do you really think she’s attracted to me?" Jon asked.
"Here we go. Now we’ve gotta listen to Jon whine about the unattainable Veronica for the rest of the tour," Richie groaned.
"No, you don’t. I won’t say a word about her beyond friendship," Jon promised.
"We’ll see…" Richie sighed as the five prepared to rehearse their set…
………………………………………………………………………………………………
2 hours later
Veronica smiled as she thought about this impromptu, informal concert she felt honored to attend. She enjoyed the music, the banter amongst the band and with her, and just watching and talking with Jon. As they finished their current song, Veronica clapped and yelled in approval as Jon addressed her on the microphone, "So are there any other songs we didn’t play that you’d like to hear? We’ll play anything you request."
"Really? Anything I want?" Veronica asked.
"Your wish is our command," Jon flirted.
"I like the sound of that. Then again, I always like it when men do whatever I desire…" Veronica flirted back.
"Heh heh. Well, you’ve got five of them willing to heed to your desires now so the choice is yours," answered Jon.
"Well then, I know what song I choose. I’d love to hear ‘Living In Sin.’ It’s one of my favorite Bon Jovi ballads and anti-marriage songs," Veronica replied.
Jon smiled saying, "Good choice. ‘Living in Sin’ it is, then." The guys started playing the song as Veronica sat back and listened to the performance. She noted Jon’s facial expressions and movements as he sang and found herself moved by the emotion he exhibited. Occasionally, the two would lock eyes and Veronica felt as if Jon were singing the song for her. She dismissed their eyes meeting as coincidences and the emotional intensity Jon exhibited as separate from her and the way he always performs the song.
Jon found himself unable to quit gazing at Veronica during the especially romantic parts of the song. He wondered if she noticed his staring and hoped she wasn’t offended or it didn’t give his feelings away. When the song ended, Veronica applauded and thanked them for indulging her in playing a request.
"It was our pleasure," Richie said.
"Yes, we enjoyed reviving an oldie, but goodie," Jon added with a smile as he made his way to Veronica who eyed her watch.
"Well, I better head back to the hotel before Gene and Terri start calling the hospitals and prisons to see if I’m a patient or inmate," Veronica joked.
"Yeah, I can see why they’d call the prisons for you," Jon added, "with that mouth you’ve got on you."
"Hey, I’m not that bad!" Veronica exclaimed to Jon who regarded her with a look of sarcasm.
"All right. Maybe I am that bad, but anyway. Thank you so much for the killer show. It was such a pleasure meeting you, Jon," Veronica said.
"It was a pleasure meeting you too, Veronica. You’re always welcome to stop by and watch us rehearse," Jon told her touching her arm.
"Thank you. I just might take you up on that offer. I’m sure I’ll be seeing you again soon," Veronica replied.
"I’ll be looking forward to it," Jon said extending his arms and embracing Veronica again.
"Bye, Jon."
Bye, Veronica…
………………………………………………………………………………………………
At the hotel following the rehearsal
"So how was your afternoon with Bon Jovi?" Terri asked Veronica whom she and Gene invited to feast on room service dinner with them to keep her mind off Paul’s temporary absence.
"It was amazing. I’m still in shock and on cloud nine," Veronica answered then recounted the conversations and rehearsal.
"Wow. That sounds like quite an experience. They went through a lot of trouble just to play for you. You and Jon must’ve hit it off and become fast friends," answered Terri wondering if Veronica realized the magnitude of Jon’s feelings for her.
"Yeah, we did. He’s a nice guy and not conceited at all though he’s terminally handsome. I can add him to my ‘men who don’t want to fuck me and content with friendship with me’ list," Veronica said then noticed Gene and Terri looking at her as if suppressing laughter.
"What? Did I say something funny?"
"Well, Veronica, have you ever considered the fact that Jon may not exactly qualify for placement on that list?" Terri asked.
"What do you mean?"
"What she means is that Jon likes you. He’s pathetic over you," Gene explained.
Confused, Veronica asked, "What gives you the indication he likes me?"
"You really don’t get it, do you?" Gene said.
"What’s there to get? I met Jon Bon Jovi, hung out with the whole band, and saw a rehearsal where I got to choose the last song. Sounds pretty straightforward to me."
"Veronica, you’re dead wrong. It’s far from straightforward and simple. It’s a lot more complicated than you presume," Terri explained.
"How so?"
"All right, we’ll try this from another angle," Gene decided, "Veronica, did you notice any salient features in the way Jon looked at you, talked to you, interacted with you in general?"
After briefly pausing to think Veronica answered, "No, I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. He just seemed like a nice man with whom I share a lot in common."
"Okay, well you’re wrong there. Veronica, Jon likes you a lot. Terri and I could tell it the second he laid eyes on you. That man’s attracted to you," Gene told her.
"I disagree. He doesn’t like me beyond friendship. He’s just a nice man indulging a longtime Bon Jovi fan. Nothing more nothing less."
"All right. For the sake of argument, let’s say you’re right. Jon isn’t attracted to you and doesn’t like you. Explain why he called you a goddess and made sure you knew he found you aesthetically pleasing, if you will."
"Aesthetically pleasing? Jeez, Gene. Drop the inflated vocabulary. Sorry to keep you from answering, Veronica," interjected Terri.
"That’s okay. I was thinking the same thing. To answer your question, Gene, Jon was just being polite to the girlfriend of one of his bosses who happens to be a Bon Jovi fan. It was nothing more than protocol."
"Veronica, most men don’t go around throwing out compliments with the word ‘goddess’ in them unless they truly mean it," Terri observed.
"Yes, I agree. Also if he didn’t want you, why didn’t he object to allowing you to watch the rehearsal and not only that, but request a song for them to play? It seems to me like he’s going through an awful lot of unnecessary trouble merely to conduct himself properly around Paul’s girlfriend," Gene added.
"That’s easy. I’m a longtime, devoted Bon Jovi fan. He was just trying to make a fan’s dream a reality," Veronica explained.
"When was the last time KISS, or any band for that matter, went through all that trouble for a random fan? They didn’t unless it was a contest. Veronica, think about it. Jon didn’t have to do any of those things. He could’ve shook your hand and sent you on your way, but he didn’t. He went all out for you. No man goes through all of that trouble for a woman without some degree of emotional investment in her," Terri said.
"I just don’t see it. You guys are wrong and way off base. It’s friendship pure and simple," Veronica told them.
Gene gave an exasperated sigh and replied, "Veronica, I love you like a sister, but you are the biggest dumbass I’ve seen in a long time. If you weren’t my friend and I thought I’d win, I’d kick your ass! Jon likes, no he’s pathetic over you. He’s sitting in his hotel with Richie, David, Tico, and Hugh wishing you were single and available or that he met you before Paul. You’re just too damn stubborn and oblivious to all the signs to see it!"
"Whatever, Gene. You have a right to your opinion. I’m sticking by my own. I’m just not convinced he has feelings for me."
Gene looked at Veronica then shifted his gaze to Terri, "Shit, now I know how you feel. She’s more stubborn than and more equipped with answers to everything than I am!"
"Yes, you’re right, but I’ll keep you around anyway," Terri joked touching the hair Gene kept held back in a ponytail.
"Well, I better go turn in. It’s been a long, but good day," Veronica said rising from her seat.
"Okay, but please promise you’ll at least give some thought to all Gene and I told you," Terri said.
"All right. I promise I’ll consider your opinions and keep them in the back of my mind while around Jon. ‘Night guys," Veronica said.
"’Night…"
………………………………………………………………………………………………
The following night
Veronica and Jon took swigs from their respective beer bottles as they conversed on various subjects. Jon invited Veronica to go with him and the band to a local bar to unwind and talk after the day’s rehearsal. The crowded bar consisted of wooden tables and chairs with individuals spanning all ages and physical characteristics as patrons. It reminded Veronica of a roadhouse type bar save the dance floor she frequented in Texas while pursuing her undergraduate degree. The six seated themselves at a large table near the back of the roadhouse where they talked and laughed while they split pitchers of beer.
"This place takes me back to my college days," Veronica told them.
"Really? You must’ve been somethin’ else in college," Richie observed.
"You don’t know the half of it. I spent more of my time drinking than studying before graduate school. There’s probably a little bit of blood with the alcohol flowing in my veins."
The six laughed in response as Jon joked, "Damn. You fit in with us. We’ve gone through more blenders in the last 17 years than Rush Limbaugh goes through doughnuts in a day."
Veronica guffawed nearly spitting out her beer, "That’s hilarious, Jon! Next time you wanna make me laugh, wait until I’ve swallowed."
"I bet that’s not the first time Jon’s had a woman say that to him!" Richie joked.
"Oh fuck. I walked right into that one. That didn’t sound right, did it? That’s not what I meant," Veronica reassured laughing while Jon blushed and chuckled.
"I knew what you meant," Jon smiled.
"I know, but I usually catch myself before I walk right into jokes like that," Veronica laughed.
"Oh well. I guess even perfection incarnate makes mistakes once in a while…" Jon replied.
"Yes, exactly." Veronica jokingly agreed then noted the song "Roadhouse Blues" playing
over the speakers at the bar.
"Great song," Veronica commented.
"You a Doors fan?"
"Oh yes. I love them and ‘Roadhouse Blues,’ along with ‘LA Woman,’ is one of my favorite Doors songs."
Jon smiled and agreed, "Mine too. Why don’t we dance to it?"
"Yes, let’s" Veronica answered walking with Jon to the dance floor.
"Is it just me or does Jon need to hurry up and tell Veronica he wants her?" Richie inquired of David, Tico, and Hugh.
"No, I agree. He needs to gather his courage and tell her already," Hugh agreed.
"But what about Paul? Veronica loves him and lives with him. I don’t see her leaving him for Jon," Tico said.
"True, but Jon’s obviously attracted to her and Veronica’s oblivious to it," Richie pointed out before pouring himself another cup of beer.
"You’re right. She has no clue Jon likes her. She thinks he just wants to be friends with her. I wonder what would happen if she knew how he really felt…" David said.
"I don’t know, but I hope no one gets hurt in the process," Richie added.
As Jon and Veronica danced, the latter suppressed a giggle at watching Jon dance as he lacked the skill of Paul. She enjoyed dancing with Jon, though, and talked with him during the dances.
"So are you having fun with us tonight?" Jon asked.
"I’m having a blast. You guys know how to party!" Veronica answered.
"Good. I was worried that with Paul gone, you may be a little down in the dumps."
"Thanks and I do miss him, but I’m all right. By the way, he said to tell you hello," Veronica told him wondering to herself why Paul sort of chuckled when she mentioned meeting Jon and the events following. She couldn’t understand his attitude about it and wondered if he shared the same opinion as Gene and Terri that Jon liked her.
"Oh, cool. Tell him I said hello, too."
"Will do," Veronica said noticing the song changed to "Honkey Tonk Woman" by the Rolling Stones, "Oh wow! This is one of my favorite Stones songs."
"Mine too," Jon said smiling, "We’re a lot alike."
"Yeah, we are. You’re a cool guy." Veronica said as she moved closer to Jon to accommodate some new dancers to the floor.
"Thanks. You’re a very amazing womyn, Veronica."
"Why thank you, Jon."
The two continued conversing during the song touching one another on the arm as they spoke. Jon watched Veronica as she danced and spoke to him thinking, Damn, Jon. You’re in too deep. You’ve got to do something about it.
Noticing his pensive nature, Veronica asked, "Jon, are you all right? You look spaced and worried."
With a start Jon answered, "Oh, don’t worry about me. I’m good. I’ve just got a lot on my mind is all."
"Okay, well if you need to talk, I’m here for you."
"Thanks, Veronica," Jon said grinning as he touched her arm and led her back to the table at the conclusion of the song, "Oh and please be sure to stop by rehearsal tomorrow. Gene and Terri will be there, too, since they’re both interested in hearing our set."
"I wouldn’t miss it for the world," Veronica said with a grin flattered that Jon enjoyed her presence at the rehearsals.
As they walked back to their table Veronica thought, "Damn, he’s so hot! I wish Gene and Terri were right about Jon being attracted to me…"
………………………………………………………………………………………………
The following day at Giants Stadium
Gene and Terri arrived at the stadium ready to watch the rehearsal and chat with Bon Jovi. Jon and Gene needed to discuss some business before the rehearsal, so they all arrived at the stadium in the morning instead of Bon Jovi’s usual afternoon appearance for rehearsal.
Jon approached Gene and Terri yawning, "Hi, Gene. Hi, Terri."
"Hey, Jon. Not a morning person, eh?" Gene answered.
"That’s an understatement. Where’s Veronica?"
"Oh, she’s back at the hotel talking to Paul on the phone," Terri answered noting Jon’s crestfallen stare, "But she’ll be here soon. She’ll be here as soon as she finishes talking to Paul."
Jon smiled and said, "Great. I enjoy her being here to watch us rehearse." And just being here, Jon thought to himself.
"Well, she’ll be here soon. She’s not a morning person herself, so she was kind of straggling when Paul called. From what Paul says, she’s the type who barely knows her own name, much less anything else," Gene explained.
"Sounds like me," Jon commented with a smile which Gene and Terri reciprocated.
At that moment, Veronica appeared in the stadium. Jon took in the way her hair bounced as she walked and the sachet in her walk. "Damn. She encompasses a "Strutter" Jon thought. Veronica wore tight blue jean shorts, black sandals, and a tight, emerald green tank top that read "Feminists Do It Better."
"Hey Veronica," the three greeted.
Veronica yawningly greeted, "Hey. Who the hell decided on meeting at the ass crack of dawn?"
Gene laughed and said, "I did and it’s not that early. It’s 9am."
"Figures and yes, that is too the ass crack of dawn. I’m used to staying up late and getting up no sooner than 11am," Veronica retorted as the three laughed at her response, " I must like you guys a whole hell of a lot to come here this early and interrupt quality sleeping time," she added with mock exasperation.
"Well, I don’t know if I’m speaking for Gene and Terri when I say this, but I feel honored you interrupted valuable sleeping time to come see me, I mean, us." Jon answered.
"Thank you, Jon. The privilege is all yours," Veronica joked while Gene leaned to Terri and whispered, "How the hell can she not see that Jon likes her? It’s as plain as day!"
Jon smiled at her joke and replied, "Yes, it is. Anyway after we finish talking to you, Gene, the guys and I thought we’d rehearse for a couple of hours, take about an hour break, then rehearse for another hour, then play it by ear after that."
"Okay. Sounds good to me. We’ll go sit out on the front row," Gene answered as he, Terri, and Veronica exited the stage…
………………………………………………………………………………………………
Veronica walked out of the restroom backstage and headed to the lounge type area where she could sit and get a drink and just relax from her early start to the day. Gene and Terri’s whereabouts were a mystery to Veronica, though she figured they were in Gene’s dressing room. She wondered about Jon’s whereabouts as well. The rehearsal went without a hitch and Veronica was curious to know the post-rehearsal agenda.
When Veronica walked into the lounge area, it reminded her of the faculty lounge at her university. There was a counter with sink and cabinets along with a refrigerator, a long rectangular folding table, and cushioned chairs surrounding a coffeetable on the other end of the room. At the rectangular table, she observed Jon seated sipping on a cup of coffee. When he heard the door swing open, he looked up and smiled when he saw it was Veronica.
"Oh, I didn’t realize you were in here, Jon. If you want to be alone, I can leave," Veronica told him while holding onto the door so she could leave if necessary.
"No, please sit and help yourself to some coffee. I just brewed a fresh pot," Jon answered happy to be alone with Veronica.
"Oh cool. Thanks. I need some coffee from having to get up so damn early!"
"Yeah, me too."
"I don’t know what Gene was thinking scheduling an early morning meeting like that," Veronica groaned then walked to the coffeepot, grabbed a mug from the cabinet, and seated herself across from Jon who regarded her movements. He liked the sway of her hips when she walked and the rise and fall of her breasts as she moved.
"Me either, but I agreed to it anyway," Jon said and couldn’t help but notice Veronica’s nipples in her tanktop revealing the fact she wore no bra.
"By the way, I like your tanktop," Jon complimented then took another sip of coffee.
Veronica smiled and answered, "Thanks. Paul gave it to me."
"I’ve often found that statement to be true," Jon flirted his sapphire orbs penetrating her emerald ones.
"Oh really?"
"Yes."
"Interesting…" Veronica answered her voice trailing off as she wondered why Jon was telling her this.
"So, Veronica, tell me more about yourself. I’d like to know more about your dreams and goals," Jon requested.
Veronica smiled at his genuine interest in her as a person and told him about her college career, teaching fellowship, and aspirations of becoming a college professor.
"So I was basically a nerdy graduate student whose life just started taking off one day…" Veronica said in conclusion.
Jon sat with his head resting on his hand regarding her with a look of admiration while she spoke and when she concluded her talk said, "Wow. You’ve accomplished so much. But you know what?"
"What?"
"I need to move to Texas."
"Why is that?"
"Well, they obviously don’t make pretty nerds in Jersey like they do in Texas."
"Thanks. I couldn’t be happier. Never in a million years would I have ever guessed I’d be teaching, working on my PhD, and living with Paul. I’ve done pretty well for myself, haven’t I?" Veronica said with a slight chuckle enjoying Jon’s attention and compliments.
"Yeah, but I’d say Paul’s the one who’s done so well for himself…" Jon told her sipping his coffee his gaze never leaving hers.
Veronica blushed and answered, "Thanks. That’s sweet of you to say."
"Well, it’s true and I mean it."
"Thanks again. Though I’m happy with Paul, I’ve had to make some adjustments and some have been easier than others," Veronica mentioned before finishing her cup of coffee.
Jon raised his eyebrows and questioned, "Really? Like what?"
"Well, mostly just normal things most couples deal with on a daily basis, but the one I’m not exactly accustomed to yet is our open relationship. I mean I’m fine with it, just not used to it. I know Paul’s not used to it, either."
"I didn’t know you two had an open relationship," Jon told her trying to suppress his happiness with that news.
"Yes, but we just recently talked it over and decided it. It’s a don’t ask, don’t tell deal we have. We have an open relationship where we can experiment with others while apart, but we just won’t flaunt it to each other. Neither of us likes the thought of the other sleeping with others," Veronica explained realizing throughout the conversation she wanted and needed to tell him of her attraction to him.
"Oh, I see. That’s interesting…" Jon replied wondering if this knowledge made her accessible and attainable for him.
Veronica decided to gather her courage and tell Jon she wanted him. "I’d rather face rejection, than wander through life never knowing…" she thought.
"Um, Jon?" Veronica addressed him, her voice shaking.
"Huh?" Jon asked noting the tension in her voice and attempting to determine the source of it.
"Well, it’s like this. I really want to have se-ome more coffee with you," Veronica said kicking herself for losing her nerve and walked to the coffeepot and poured herself another cup of coffee. "Real slick, Veronica," she thought.
"Did she almost say she wanted to have sex with me?" Jon thought, "Maybe I should find out for sure..."
Jon, unbeknownst to Veronica, rose from his seat, stood behind her, and tapped her on the shoulder. When she reached the halfway point of turning, Jon spun her around placing his arms around her waist, pulled her to him and kissed her deeply with fervor and desire. Veronica started then kissed him back their tongues entwined in a sensual dance. The two ran their hands over each other’s bodies Jon exploring her curves and Veronica exploring Jon’s muscular form. When their kiss broke, Jon placed his hands on the counter on either side of Veronica who stood against it for support in standing from the intensity of their kissing.
Jon huskily whispered to Veronica, "I’ve been wanting to do that for a long time…"
Veronica smiled and said, "Wow. Me too…" Veronica thought about all that was happening and when considering it in retrospect, realized all the signs of Jon’s interest in her existed all along and that Gene and Terri were correct in their views about Jon liking her. She was floored by Jon’s kiss and initiation of it and pleasantly surprised at his spontaneity and didn’t want him to stop there.
"Really?"
"Yes, very badly…"
Jon smiled and answered, "Me too. I just wasn’t sure how you felt."
"Well, now you know. We both do…" Veronica answered returning his smile.
The two knowingly smiled at one another as they understood the desire they felt for one another as Jon’s arms resumed their position on her waist. Jon picked her up seating her on top of the table where their sexual adventure began. Veronica gasped while he did this and once on the table, pulled him closer to her running her fingers through his hair, over his shoulders, then traveled down his chest and stomach. The two resumed kissing one another as Jon explored her body placing his hands on her breasts cupping them through the fabric feeling her nipples harden under his touch. Their kissing and touching caused them to moan against each other’s mouths and as Jon’s lips moved to her neck, Veronica moaned in pleasure which increased when he reached under her tanktop pulling it up and then down off her body rendering her breasts exposed. Jon liked her ample breasts and the way they felt and fit in his hands. Veronica in turn, removed his brown leather vest running her fingers through his chest hair. Jon fingered her nipples then eased her on her back kissing and caressing and simultaneously suckling her breasts giving each breast equal attention. Veronica moaned and cried, "Oh God, Jon!" while his tongue and hands worked their magic over her soft skin. After tantalizing Veronica’s breasts, Jon moved over her as he pulled off her shorts and threw them on the floor her panties following as each article of clothing found its way to various parts of the room. Veronica removed Jon’s pants throwing them aside leaving them both naked before one another. Jon closed his mouth over Veronica’s kissing her passionately and lovingly while caressing her breasts and nipples causing Veronica to moan against his mouth. When their kiss broke, Jon entered her hard and intensely causing them both to scream with delight. Veronica held onto his bottom as the thrusts increased in intensity and depth the table shifting and pounding onto the table mimicking Jon’s pounding thrusts until the table unfolded falling to the floor with a loud thud. Veronica and Jon didn’t notice and simply rolled off the table moving their passion to the floor….
………………………………………………………………………………………………
Meanwhile, Gene walked by the lounge but stopped in his tracks as he heard shouting accompanied by a loud thud. Curious as to the source of the noise, he quietly pushed open the door his eyes widening and an amused grin emerged on his face as he noticed Veronica and Jon having sex on the table. Gene, deciding not to play the voyeur, quietly closed the door and walked away thinking, "Have I got something to tell Terri!"
………………………………………………………………………………………………
Veronica and Jon continued their sexual adventure on the floor caressing and kissing each other during their passion. As they climaxed, the two moaned and shouted their passion erupting with latex as the only barrier. Jon then moved beside Veronica resting his head on his elbow while Veronica remained lying on her back. Jon ran a finger along Veronica’s arm that strayed to her still-hardened nipples, then up to her face. They both offered each other grins of contentment.
"Now you know I’m a natural redhead…" Veronica joked.
Jon laughingly replied, "True and I know some of your other hidden talents…" then kissed her softly on the lips.
"Likewise. I’m speechless, Jon. I don’t know what to say other than wow," Veronica replied at a loss for words.
"You don’t have to say anything, Veronica. I feel the same way. I accomplished a great deal if you’re speechless," Jon joked with a smile.
"Yes, you did. You deserve a prize…" Veronica flirted.
"I like the sound of that. When can I claim the prize and what is it?" Jon asked.
Veronica slyly smiled, "That information will be given on a need-to-know basis. That means I decide when and what you need to know…"
"You’re not going to tell me?"
"No, you’ll have to wait until later."
"Aw, come on. Please?" Jon pleaded looking at her doe-eyed.
"Don’t even try that begging stuff with me. I’m numb to it. You’ll just have to wait. I’ll definitely make it worth your while…" Veronica said running her hands over Jon’s chest.
"Well, okay. I guess I can wait. You drive a hard bargain, Veronica."
"Now if anyone drives a hard bargain in this scenario, it’s you. I lack the equipment for driving a hard bargain…" Veronica joked.
Jon laughed aloud with Veronica who said, "Well, I guess we better try to find our clothes in this room, get dressed and head out before someone sees us."
"Yeah, you’re right," Jon agreed as the two gathered and put on their clothes.
"You know you’ve had a good time when you can’t find your underwear," Veronica joked while searching diligently for her underwear then finding it.
"That’s why I don’t wear them…"
"I noticed that a long time ago…"
Jon smiled in response opening the door for Veronica as they exited the lounge together…
………………………………………………………………………………………………
Veronica smoothed down her clothes glancing at them to ensure they weren’t on backwards then smoothed down her hair, but to no avail since it stayed tousled. She noticed Gene and Terri emerging from the former’s dressing room in the same disheveled state and smiled to herself thinking, "Damn, this place is rockin’ and the concert hasn’t even started."
"Hey, Veronica," Gene greeted as he placed his arm around Terri while his free hand briefly strayed across her breasts.
"Hey, guys."
"You look a little spaced and tousled, Veronica. Anything we should know?" Terri asked as she pinched Gene’s butt then the two exchanged a wink.
"There’s a good reason for that. You’ll never guess what happened!" Veronica exclaimed.
"Hmmm. Let me take a crack at it," Gene answered stroking his chin pretending he was merely guessing, "You and Jon fucked on top of the table in the lounge?"
Veronica looked at him suspiciously, "Yeah, how did you know?" She paused and before Gene could respond she questioned, "Wait a minute. You didn’t walk in on us did you, Mr. Voyeur of the Century?"
Gene nodded and mischievously grinned, "I sure did. I walked in just in time to see you two continuing your little sexcapade on the floor. Don’t worry, though, I didn’t stick around and watch. As soon as I saw you two, I quietly closed the door and exited."
Veronica sheepishly replied, "Oh, man. I feel a little awkward."
"Hey, don’t sweat it. It’s not a problem," Gene reassured, "Besides, Terri and I benefited from it…"
Veronica laughed while Terri rolled her eyes saying, "Yeah, Veronica. Don’t feel awkward about it. We’ve all gotten caught in public at one time or another…"
"True, and I’d rather it be a good friend than the tabloid assholes."
"Good point. The tabloids don’t ever bother you, anyway. Ever since you broke that one photographer’s camera, squeezed his penis with a pair of pliers, and threatened to give Lorena Bobbitt a call, they haven’t messed with you," Gene replied with a smile then added, "Woman, I’m glad you’re on my side."
Veronica laughed and answered, "Well, I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do. Paul enjoyed it because he no longer has to worry about the tabloids following us and invading our privacy. Speaking of Paul, I miss him…"
"It’s okay. He’ll be back soon, Veronica," Terri reassured touching her friend’s arm.
"I know he will. I just miss him," Veronica sighed.
"Hey, let’s go back to the hotel, eat a lot of rich food, and hang out. It’ll make you feel better. That is, unless you and Jon have plans for the evening…" Terri suggested.
"No, I don’t have any plans. Let’s go eat and chat for a while."
"Cool. I’m glad I don’t have to throw you over my shoulder kicking and screaming to the hotel," Gene joked.
Veronica laughed, "No, I’ll leave that to you and Terri."
The three laughed as they exited the stadium to return to the hotel…

Later at Jon’s hotel
"You and Veronica did it in the lounge on top of the table?!" Richie exclaimed as he slammed his hands on the table between he and Jon.
Jon blushed and grinned, "Yes, we sure did."
"Man! I can’t believe you and she sealed the deal. Very nice!" Richie exclaimed nudging Jon.
"Yes, it was incredible. All I wanted and then some. She’s so beautiful, smart, funny, and sexy," Jon answered with a dreamy look in his face that didn’t escape Richie’s observation. Jon recounted the conversations he engaged in with Veronica while Richie listened intently and patiently.
"Listen to yourself, man! You love her," Richie observed.
"No, I don’t. She’s just a cool, sexy woman I like," Jon replied furrowing his brow in confusion.
"Yes, you do. You love her a great deal. You just won’t admit it because you think she can’t and won’t offer you the relationship you’d want," Richie pointed out to him, "Besides, you remember each conversation and movement of hers verbatim. If that’s not love, I don’t know what is."
Jon briefly reflected, smiled, and answered, "Rich, you’re right. I do love Veronica. I never realized it before, but I do love her. It’s just too bad I can’t tell her…"
"Why not? What’s stopping you?"
"She’s in love with Paul. She doesn’t want me."
"You don’t know that for a fact, Jon. You’ve got to tell her how you feel. I know it’s scary, but you need to know or you’ll drive yourself crazy wondering what could have been. Even if you’re right and she wants to stay with Paul, you have to tell her for yourself."
"Yeah, you’re right. I know you’re right. It’s just hard. I don’t know what to say and I’m scared I’ll lose her completely."
"Jon, that’s just a chance you’ll have to take. I doubt you’ll lose her. She seems like a logical, reasonable person."
"I know. I’ll tell her how I feel soon…"

The following day
"Hello," Veronica greeted into the mouthpiece of the phone.
"Hey, Veronica. It’s Jon. What’s up?"
"Hey, Jon. I’m fine. You?"
"I’m good. Listen, I have an idea."
"What’s that?"
"I was wondering if you’d want to come over and have a drink with me tonight."
"I’d love to. Sounds like fun."
"Great. Seven o’clock okay?"
"Perfect. I’ll be there."
"All right. See you then."
………………………………………………………………………………………………
That night at Jon’s hotel room
Veronica and Jon sat across one another sipping on their drinks, Veronica choosing rum and coke, Jon choosing Jack and Coke. They talked about various subjects including their sexual encounter.
"You’ll never guess what I found out yesterday!" Veronica exclaimed.
Jon smiled questioning, "What?"
"Gene caught us on the floor having sex!"
"Bullshit! Are you serious?"
"I’m completely serious, man."
"You mean he stood there and watched us??!!" Jon exclaimed in horror.
"Oh, no! Gene knows better than that. He walked away as soon as he discovered us. He just likes to aggravate me is all," Veronica explained laughing.
"Oh, okay. More of that sibling bantering."
"Exactly."
"So when is Paul coming back from LA?" Jon asked wondering how much time he had to gather his courage and tell Veronica his feelings.
"He comes back the day after tomorrow on a late night flight," Veronica answered. Jon noticed her smile and face light up at the mention of Paul returning from his trip. "This is gonna be harder than I thought," Jon thought.
"I’m surprised you didn’t go with him to see Evan," Jon replied sipping his drink.
"Well, Paul and Evan needed quality time alone and his ex and I don’t exactly get along."
"Really? Why is that?"
"It’s a long story. Let’s just say she’s not my biggest fan…"
"I’ve got time if you want to talk about it. If not, I’ll drop the subject altogether."
"All right, thanks. Here goes…" Veronica answered beginning her recount of the events leading up to and the actual meeting of she and Pam.
"This happened about 2 months into our relationship. It was time for Paul and Evan to visit one another and instead of Evan traveling to our home, Pam invited Paul and I to her house. She said she wanted to meet the woman in Paul’s life Evan keeps raving about."
"Aww. That’s great you and Evan get along together so well," Jon interjected, "Go on."
"Well, I accepted her invitation honored she wanted to meet me and respectful of her wishes to meet me. It seemed logical to me. You know, a mother wanting to meet the other mother figure in her son’s life. So we worked out the details with Pam and I was calm about going. However, the closer the day came the more I felt negative vibes about meeting Pam and I made Paul aware of these feelings."
"So one morning while Paul and I were sitting at home relaxing, I broached the subject.
‘Paul, I need to talk to you about something,’ I told him.
"He lowered the book he was reading, placed it at his side, faced me with a look of concern and said, "Okay. What’s on your mind?"
‘Well, it has to do with our visiting Evan and Pam this weekend,’ I hesitantly replied.
‘All right.’
‘Well, I keep getting these odd, foreboding vibes about our upcoming visit and my initial encounter with Pam. At first I discounted it as nervousness, but the closer we get to the actual day the worse I feel.’
‘What exactly are you feeling, baby?’
‘I keep getting this feeling as if this visit will prove disastrous, especially when you introduce me to her.’
"Paul regarded me with a look of reflection and asked, ‘Veronica, do you think it’s just simply an extreme case of nervousness and anxiety about meeting Pam? You did take your anxiety medication today, didn’t you?’
"I smiled at his concern never ceasing to be amazed at the way he takes care of me, ‘Yes, I did take my medicine. That’s why these vibes worry and baffle me. Paul, you know my vibes are rarely wrong.’
‘True, but maybe this is one of those rare cases. Please try not to worry about it. I’m not going to ignore or blow off your vibes at all. In fact, I’m keeping them in the back of my mind. I just think it would ease your mind to consider the fact this may be one of the rare times your vibes are wrong,’ Paul pointed out to me."
‘I see what you’re saying, but I’m just not convinced. And Paul, what if these vibes are right? I can’t just respond bluntly and directly with Pam because I don’t want to set a bad example for Evan since I’m not his biological mother nor do I want to stoop to her level should she treat me badly.’ I responded sighing and rubbing my temples from the headache coming on.
"Paul walked to the bathroom and emerged with two Tylenol and a glass of water responding, ‘Well, don’t worry about a thing. If Pam gives you shit, I’ll take care of it. You just leave everything to me.’
"I sipped my water, swallowed the medicine and answered, ‘I’ll try, Paul. I really will. I’m just stressed about these vibes.’
‘Don’t sweat it, babe. It’ll be all right. Besides, I know a great way to relieve your stress…’ Paul flirted with a smile and a wink which I returned as we walked hand in hand to our bedroom."
"Two days following was the big day. Needless to say, I was a nervous wreck. Poor Paul didn’t know what to do to calm my nerves."
‘Veronica, don’t worry. It’ll be okay. Just think about how happy Evan will be to see you and how much you’re both looking forward to seeing each other.’
‘Yeah, I am looking forward to seeing the little guy. He’s such a sweetheart and so much fun!’
"Paul smiled at me thrilled at the fact Evan and I get along so well and have a healthy relationship."
‘See, I knew I could get you smiling again. Now, it’s time for us to leave. Are you feeling better?’ Paul asked me placing his hands over my shoulders and arms.
‘Yes, baby. Thank you. No matter what happens, we’ll get through it.’
‘Yes, we will," Paul answered noting the time, "We better get going so we won’t miss our flight.’
"Any comments you wanna make before I continue?" Veronica asked Jon as she refilled her drink.
"No comments, only that I have a feeling all hell’s gonna break loose," Jon commented refilling his drink as well.
"You’re right. All hell and then some breaks loose."
"So we get to the airport, rent a car, and drive out to Pam and Evan’s house. Paul continues giving me these semi-pep talks while I listen and take deep breaths to calm myself."
"Paul looks at me saying, ‘This is it,’ and rings the doorbell."
"The door opens and we see Evan on the other side wearing shorts and a t-shirt his eyes lighting up when he sees Paul and me, "Daddy!", he yelled as Paul picked him up hugging him long and hard then hoisted him on his waist.
‘Hi, son. I’m so glad to see you!’
"Me too, Daddy. I missed you. Now put me down. I wanna say hi to Veronica."
‘Yes, sir,’ Paul answered putting Evan down then leaned to me saying, ‘Assertive, isn’t he?’
‘Yes,’ I agreed, ‘I like a man who knows what he wants and directly states it. You could learn from him…’
‘Oh, ha ha,’ Paul sarcastically responded with a slight grin."
"Evan ran up to me, ‘Hi, Veronica! ’ then proceeded to climb on me entreating me to pick him up like Paul.
‘Whoa. You’re getting big, Evan. Why don’t I put you down and talk to you?’ I put him down and kneeled to eye level with him.
‘How’s my favorite little man? Have you been good?’
‘Yes, well, maybe just a little bit bad…’ Evan sheepishly admitted."
‘Like father, like son…’ I muttered to myself out of Evan’s earshot."
‘Did you and Daddy bring me anything?’
‘Hmmm. Paul? Do you think Evan deserves a present?’ I said to Paul winking.
‘Yes!’ Evan responded with a giggle.
‘Well, I think we might have something for you. Now let me see, where did I put it?’ Paul answered pretending to search his pockets, ‘I can’t find anything. What about you Veronica?’
‘Let’s see. Ah, yes, I do,’ I answered presenting a small package to Evan.
‘Yay!" Evan exclaimed tearing into the wrapping paper."
‘All right! That video we always watch! Thanks!’ Evan exclaimed hugging me and then Paul tightly."
‘Yes, Evan, it’s Free to Be You and Me. I’m so glad you like it.’
"Evan beamed and Paul chuckled and shook his head as I gave him an ‘I told you so’ look at Evan’s love of the gift. He didn’t think Evan would like or understand it, but after we watched it together the first time he loved it and asked lots of questions and made comments like, ‘Girls and can do anything boys can do!’ It was so cute! Anyway, I’m sorry about the digression."
‘Evan, is your mommy here?’ Paul asked.
"Yeah, she’s in her room.’
‘Will you go get her?’
"Evan nodded and ran down the hall to Pam’s bedroom. When he was out of earshot, I leaned over to Paul who put his arm around my shoulders and squeezed me whispering reassurance in my ear, ‘Relax. It’s going to be okay,’ then kissed me softly on the
lips.""Paul and I heard the sound of someone clearing his or her throat, looked in the direction of the hallway, and saw Pam had entered the room. She wore blue jeans and a sweater that slightly accentuated her attractive figure and her blonde hair down. She looked even more beautiful in person and it was obvious why Paul found himself drawn to her and later married her."
"Paul extended his hand in greeting and in a tone of civility said, ‘Hi, Pam. How are you?’
"Pam took his hand and briefly shook it, ‘Fine, thanks. You?’"
‘I’m good,’ Paul answered then turned to me saying, ‘Pam, this is my girlfriend, Veronica Lee. Veronica, this is Pam.’
"I offered my hand, which she refused to take, and said, "Hi, Pam. It’s great meeting the woman who gave birth to Evan. He’s such a sweet, wonderful little boy. You must be proud of him.’"
"Pam gave me the once over, looked at Paul and sarcastically replied, "’Where did find her, Paul? At the playground?’"
"Are you serious??!! She actually said that!" Jon exclaimed in shock.
"I kid you not. She said it."
"What a bitch! Anyway, go on."
"I was shocked at how she insulted me and could feel tears well up in my eyes, but managed to hold them back. I didn’t want to give her the satisfaction of seeing me cry. Paul sarcastically answered her with, ‘Pam, now how did you know the décor of my and Veronica’s bedroom?’"
"I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time. It’s funny how Paul and I have rubbed off on each other. Anyway, Pam merely rolled her eyes and said, ‘Well, I just can’t believe you’d pick this Vanessa person.’
‘It’s Veronica, Pam. Can’t you at least have the decency to get her name right?’
‘No, I can’t because I don’t care to remember it.’
"Before Paul could respond Evan entered the room, ran up to me, and said, ‘Veronica, will you play hide and seek with me? You too, Daddy.’"
‘Um, maybe later, son. Veronica and I need to finish talking to your mommy. Why don’t you go outside and play and we’ll call you when we’re through ok," Paul told him’
‘Okay, Daddy,’ Even answered as he went to the backyard to play."
‘Now, back to you, Pam. Did we pick the wrong day to visit you?’ Paul asked.
‘No day with her is the right day. I just don’t know what you see in this trashy, bimbo. She probably can’t even spell ‘cat’, Pam retorted then eyed me with a look of jealousy and hatred."
‘All right. That’s it! I’m tired of putting up with your bullshit! First of all, her name is Veronica Lee. You got that? It’s not hard to remember and I expect you to remember it next time you see her! And yes, Pam, you will see her again because I don’t plan on letting her go any time soon! You will treat this womyn with the respect and courtesy she deserves!’
‘Whatever, Paul. I don’t have to treat this stupid bimbo with respect and courtesy. She doesn’t deserve it. Hell, she’s not even blonde! I can’t believe she spun you into her web!’
‘You fucking bitch! She has not spun me into any web! I love Veronica! I’m the one who pursued her not the other way around. I don’t even know why I have to explain this to you. It should be obvious why I love her. Just look at her! She’s gorgeous! And contrary to what you might think, she’s not a bimbo!’
"Pam interrupted Paul with, ‘Yes, she is, Paul. She’s a total bimbo. I can tell by looking at her. All boobs and no brains. She’s not someone I want around our son.’
"Paul’s anger increased while my own anger and sadness increased coupled with shock at the whole conversation ensuing between them. ‘Has all that peroxide seeped into your brain? She’s teaching college and pursuing a PhD degree. Yeah, she’s a real bimbo all right. Jeez, Pam! And just for the record, Veronica can spell ‘cat,’ unlike some blonde bimbos in this room I won’t name! Oh, and Pam, you better not badmouth Veronica to Evan because if I ever see a change in his attitude towards Veronica or hear him badmouth her, I’ll take you to court and make sure you never see Evan again! Do I make myself clear?’
‘You’re bluffing. You wouldn’t dare!’
"Watch me!’ Paul said as he turned on his cell phone and began dialing."
"Pam regarded him with a look of horror screaming, ‘Okay, okay! You’ve made your point. Please don’t take my son away from me!’
"Paul hung up the phone and calmly replied, ‘That’s more like it. Now if you’ll excuse us, Veronica and I have a play date with Evan.’ He then turned to me, took my hand and said, ‘C’mon, Veronica. Let’s go outside and hang with Evan for a while.’"
"‘Holy shit! What nerve! Paul really let her have it, too. Way to go Paul!’ Jon interjected as he refilled his and Veronica’s drinks."
Veronica smiled and answered, "Yes, he was pretty fucking pissed. He really went to bat for me. I know he loves me and always shows and tells me, but that time he really showed it."
"Well, after we left their house and we reached our hotel room, I cried my eyes out and Paul just held me trying to soothe me."
‘She was so mean to me! I can’t believe how much she hurt me and hates me!’ I cried as Paul held me close.
‘Sweetheart, I am so sorry. I had no idea she’d react that way to you. Your vibes were right on the money and I’m sorry I didn’t pay more attention to them. Can you forgive me?’
‘Oh, Paul, you don’t have to apologize. None of this is your fault at all. My bad vibes could’ve been predictors of something completely different. Neither of us had any way of knowing this meeting would backfire. Please don’t blame yourself,’ I replied looking up at him and pulling some stray tendrils of hair out of his face.
‘Well, it just pisses me off how mean she was to you! She was a real bitch! Evan’s level of maturity is way higher than hers and he’s only 7 years old!’
‘Paul, thank you so much for standing up for me. You were and are so sweet and I love you all the more for it.’
"Paul looked into my eyes and answered, ‘Veronica, you don’t have to thank me. I was honored to stand up for you. I meant every word. I love you, baby.’
"After that, we made gentle love and fell asleep in each other’s arms. That, my friend, is the end of the story."
"Wow. What an ordeal! Thanks for sharing the story with me. It sucks you had to go through all of that shit with his ex. I know you were wanting a good relationship with her."
"Yeah, well it’s okay now. I mean, we’re civil to one another, but it’s still tense in the air between us. Maybe someday she’ll learn to accept me. Until then, Paul and I will have to deal with her in the most mature way possible. Now, do you mind if we change the subject?"
"Not at all."
"Okay good, because I need a drink after telling that story."
"I could use a refill myself," Jon answered as he and Veronica refilled their fourth drinks. They finished the drinks in record time and Veronica told Jon, "I’m ready for another."
She rose from her seat, but failed as she found herself falling on the floor landing on her bottom.
Jon looked at her stifling a laugh until he noticed Veronica roaring in laughter, "I think I’m a little drunk."
"A little?" Jon teased.
"Okay, a lot drunk," Veronica answered giggling.
Jon laughing offered, "Here, let me help you to your feet," but as he rose from his chair found himself falling onto the floor landing the same way as Veronica.
They both laughed hard and heartily as Veronica said, "It’s official. Veronica Lee and Jon Bon Jovi are officially drunk off their asses!"
Veronica paused and yelled, "Am I too loud?"
Jon yelled back, "Not any louder than me!"
The two then with much effort, rose from the floor and approached the bar in Jon’s room.
"Hey! Let’s do a couple of shots!" Veronica exclaimed.
"Yeah! Let’s!" Jon said as he pulled out a couple of shot glasses.
"Let’s do shots of Jack" Veronica giggled.
"Great idea. You rock!" Jon laughed as he filled the shot glasses.
"Uh, I know." Veronica joked as she took her glass from Jon.
"Damn, we’re not vain," Jon joked back.
"No, just self-confident," Veronica and Jon laughed, "Now, we should propose a toast."
"Okay. To drunken friends," Jon toasted.
"To drunken friends," Veronica repeated clinking glasses with Jon then both drank the shots.
"Damn, that was some good shit!" Jon exclaimed.
"HELL YEAH. That was the best!"
The two giggled more than necessary and Jon said, "This is fun, but let’s go out and paint the town red!"
"But Jon, that requires getting up."
"Oh yeah. I hadn’t thought of that. Silly me!" Jon answered crossing his eyes and making faces.
"Oh my God! That was fucking hilarious! Do it again!" Veronica answered as she bounced across the room briefly lying on Jon’s bed resting her head on her arm as Jon contorted his face and crossed his eyes.
Veronica laughed so hard, she rolled off the bed and again fell onto the floor, "What the hell is this, The Dick Van Dyke Show?"
Jon roared in laughter and stumbled a little himself, "Shit, we’re two ungraceful drunk motherfuckers aren’t we?"
"We sure are. I’m motherfucker number 1 and you’re motherfucker number two!" Veronica exclaimed pointing to herself and Jon as she spoke then stood to her feet wobbling all the way.
"Hey! How come you get to be number one?" Jon asked with mock indignance.
"Because I’m the best and because I said so!" Veronica yelled laughing.
"You’re right. All hail to motherfucker number one!" Jon said bowing.
"Now, what do we do? Ooooh! I know! Let’s make prank phone calls!" Veronica exclaimed smiling and her eyes widened.
"Yeah! Great idea! Who’re we gonna call?" Jon asked.
"GHOSTBUSTERS! Sorry couldn’t resist." Veronica giggled.
"Anyway, are we through making bad jokes?"
"Just for the moment."
"All right. I know who we’ll call first! Let’s call Richie!" Jon exclaimed grabbing the phone.
"Ooohh. Good idea. You’re so smart! No wonder Monmouth gave you an honorary doctorate, Dr. Bon Jovi," Veronica yelled and laughed as she seated herself on the bed next to Jon.
Jon laughed as he picked the phone up from the receiver and dialed Richie’s room number.
"Hello," Richie groggily answered.
"Hi, is Ria Tard there?" Jon asked with a serious tone as Veronica covered her face with the pillow to stifle her laughter.
"Uh, no. You’ve got the wrong number."
"Really? Then what’s this RETARD doin’ on the phone?" Jon asked then quickly returned the receiver to its cradle.
Jon and Veronica laughed hard as the latter answered, "Good one, Jon! That’s fucking funny!"
"Thanks. I try," Jon smiled, "Now it’s your turn to call someone."
"Okay. Let’s see," Veronica thought with a mischievous grin, "I’m going to call Gene."
"Oh, man. I can’t wait to hear his reaction to your call!"
Veronica grinned then dialed the phone number of Terri and Gene’s room, "Hello," Terri answered.
"Terri, it’s Veronica, but don’t act like you know it’s me."
"Okay."
"Can you put Gene on the phone? Don’t tell him who it is. Just act like you didn’t recognize the voice. I’ll explain later."
"Okay. Just a moment."
Veronica covered the mouthpiece and told Jon, "Terri’s getting Gene, but won’t let on she knows it’s me. In fact, I can hear Gene asking who it is and Terri telling him she doesn’t know."
Jon quietly laughed as Veronica’s attention returned to the phone conversation.
"Hello," Gene greeted on the phone.
In a thick Southern accent Veronica asked, "Say, Gene. Are you Living in Sin at the Holiday Inn with Domino who has Great Expections?"
"Who is this?"
"You didn’t answer my question."
"No, I’m the paragon of virtue at the Marriott in the Ladies Room."
Veronica barely suppressing laughter answered, "Oh, my mistake. Goodnight, hon," then hung up the phone.
"What did he say?" Jon asked as Veronica recounted the conversation.
"That’s funny! I don’t see how you didn’t burst out laughing!"
"Oh, I almost did. I think Gene knows it’s me, though. I don’t think he would’ve responded that way to anyone else. So who’s next?"
Jon said, "Why don’t you call Paul?"
"Oh, shit. I don’t know if I can do that without laughing hysterically."
"Aw, c’mon. You can do it. I believe in you."
"All right, I’ll do it. He’ll know it’s me, though. I’d bet my life on it."
Veronica dialed Paul’s phone number and the latter answered, "Hello."
"Hey, Paul! Wanna know something?" Veronica asked making her voice higher and giggling throughout the conversation.
"Uh, what?" Paul hesitantly replied knowing it was Veronica’s voice on the other end of the phone, but not giving her the satisfaction of telling her.
"I really like your limousine. I like the way the wheels roll. I like your SEVEN INCH…leather heel and goin’ to all of the shows, BUT…Do you love me?"
"Really? That’s nice to know. Unfortunately, my refrigerator’s not running, I don’t have Prince Albert in a can, there’s no leak in my roof, and there’s no one here by the names of Turna Page or Ria Tard."
"Okay. Thanks for your help, sugar. Bye bye!" Veronica said then told a laughing Jon about the conversation.
"He knows it’s me. He’s just not letting on that he knows it’s me."
Jon laughingly replied, "Veronica, you do realize Gene and Paul are gonna get you back for the calls, don’t you?"
"Oh yeah. I know, but it’s still fun. There’s no telling what they’ll do. However, maybe it wouldn’t hurt to lay low for a while…" Veronica joked.
"Man, we’re gonna be so fucking hung over in the morning!" Jon said.
"Tell me about it! Let’s not think about it, though. Let’s just laugh and have fun until we pass out."
"Sounds good to me."
"This is so fun! I’m glad we drank together."
"Me too. We’re both silly, crazy drunks."
"Yes and don’t forget hot!"
"Oh yes. How could I forget that?" Jon smiled.
"I don’t know about you, but I think I’m going to pass out if I don’t lie down soon. But before I lie down, I think I should take some Advil. That alleviates the hangover headaches a little bit. It’s not a cure, but it does help a little."
"Really? It’s worth a try. I’ll get us some Advil and water," Jon said then returned with two glasses filled with water and Advil for them.
"Thanks, Jon."
"You’re welcome and you can crash here if you would like. You’d be stumbling down the hall and waking everyone in the hotel if you tried walking back."
"Yeah, you’re right and I think I will crash here."
Veronica and Jon pulled back the covers then disrobed to their underwear ready to lie down.
"I never thought I’d see the day I’d be in the same bed with you without having had sex."
Jon grinned and said, "Well, we can change that later when we’re sober…"
"I like the sound of that…" Veronica flirted.
Jon kissed her deeply then embraced her saying, "Goodnight, Veronica."
"Goodnight, Jon." They immediately passed out sleeping on their sides facing each other…

The following morning
Veronica and Jon awakened to the phone ringing at the side of Veronica. They both stretched and yawned as Veronica answered, "Hello."
"Hey, Veronica. It’s Richie, but don’t let on you know it’s me. Will you get Jon to the phone, please?"
"Sure. Just a minute."
Veronica covered the mouthpiece and told Jon, "Hey, it’s for you."
"Who is it?"
"They didn’t say."
"Okay. It’s probably a business call," Jon guessed as he took the receiver.
"Hello."
"Hi, Jon. I’m the retard you called last night and I’m calling to tell you I’m mentally challenged, not retarded!" Richie exclaimed imitating a mentally challenged individual.
"Oh, sorry. My mistake," Jon answered with a laugh, "Thanks for letting me know, my mentally challenged friend."
"You’re welcome. Bye!" Richie answered hanging up the phone.
When Jon finished he laughed aloud as Veronica asked, "What did Richie say," then clasped a hand over her mouth realizing she revealed the fact she knew the identity of the caller.
Jon recounted the conversation to a laughing Veronica then paused and said, "Hey! You knew it was Richie?"
Veronica sheepishly, but mischievously grinned, "Yes, I did. He told me not to let on it was him."
"So you were in on the payback too?" Jon smiled.
"Yeah, I guess I was," Veronica laughed, "You know what? I’m not hung over at all. The Advil must’ve worked."
"Yes, it did, but you’re not changing the subject on me," Jon smiled.
"Is there more to talk about? I thought it was a pretty cut and dry subject."
"Well, it’s not. There’s the issue of punishing you for being such a bad girl and tricking me…" Jon flirted.
"Now, I wasn’t quite that bad. Besides, I’m innocent…" Veronica joked.
"Right, and I’m a Republican."
Veronica laughed as Jon moved closer to her his hip touching hers saying, "There you go avoiding the subject again. You’re making this harder than I anticipated."
"Heh heh. I can tell. I can almost feel the hardness of the situation on my body…" Veronica flirted running her hand along Jon’s arm up to his neck then tracing his lips with her finger. Jon closed his eyes and parted his lips as she touched them, "So what about this punishment? Show me what you’ve got…"
Jon grinned then pulled Veronica to him causing her to gasp as his lips joined hers in a heated kiss. Their hands explored one another’s bodies and Veronica gasped in delight as Jon slid her underwear off her body throwing the panties over the side of the bed while his lips remained locked with hers. When their kiss broke, Veronica positioned herself on top of Jon running her hands over his chest while he ran his hands up her back and over her breasts tweaking her nipples until the became hardened peaks causing Veronica to moan in desire. Veronica kissed Jon again as he continued caressing her breasts and she rocked over him riding him as he penetrated her with only a latex barrier separating their erupting passion. She rode him increasingly harder and faster causing both of them to scream in euphoria stopping their screaming to kiss. Once they reached their orgasms, they both moaned in delight and Veronica remained atop Jon briefly keeping him inside of her then moved beside him. Jon ran his fingers through Veronica’s hair as she kissed him softly.
"If this is your idea of punishment, I need to be bad more often…" Veronica joked.
"Yeah, you do, because I like punishing you…" Jon flirted.
"You do, do you? Well, I think I still need a talking to. You know, a little oral reprimanding…" Veronica flirted as Jon regarded her with a look of nervousness and tension, "What? Did I say the wrong thing?"
"I have to be honest with you, Veronica. I don’t like giving oral sex. Receiving, yes, but giving, I’m not the biggest fan of it."
"Hey, that’s okay. I appreciate your honesty," Veronica answered trying to hide her disappointment.
"You’re not mad?"
"No, not at all. Disappointed, but not mad. I don’t want either of us doing anything we don’t want to do or aren’t comfortable doing," Veronica reassured him.
"Thanks for understanding."
"If you ever change your mind—"
"You’ll be the first to know," Jon replied with a smile.
Veronica smiled in response as she noted the time and answered, "Well, I better go back to the room. Paul usually calls me at this hour when he’s gone and I don’t want to miss his call. I don’t mean to run out on you."
"It’s cool. I understand. I need to get dressed myself so I can take care of some work for the day. You wanna go out to dinner tonight?" Jon asked rising from the bed stretching.
"Yeah, that sounds good. I’ll be looking forward to it."
"Me too. Until then, take care and stay out of trouble," Jon smiled as Veronica finished getting dressed.
"I’ll save getting into trouble for our dinner date," Veronica grinned and winked then added, "Take care, Jon. Want to meet downstairs at 6pm?"
"Sounds like a good plan to me. I’ll see you then," he answered hugging her tightly then kissed her briefly deepening the kiss before ending it.
"See ya later."
"Later, Veronica."

"So Gene, did Veronica prank call you last night?"
"Yes, she sure did. Veronica’s one crazy bitch," Gene said with a laugh then updated Paul on the content of the prank call, "That affected Southern accent was so over the top and funny! I could barely keep a straight face when I replied to her call."
Paul heartily laughed and answered, "Me too," then told Gene about the content of the prank call she made to him.
"So, what are we gonna do now? Are we gonna let her off easily or get even?"
"Oh, there’s no way I’m letting her off the hook for those funny and creative calls. We’ve gotta plan something big and elaborate to get her back, because she’s smart. She may be a lot younger than me, but she wasn’t born yesterday."
Gene chuckled, "Yes, you’re right. This revenge must be elaborately and meticulously planned so she won’t see it coming a mile away."
"And we can’t simply prank call her because she’ll be anticipating that. Our revenge has to be original and unique."
"Exactly. Got any ideas, Romeo?"
"Oooh. I think I’ve got the perfect idea," Paul said then told Gene who readily agreed to the idea with a smile…
