Overview -
This web site for the 1963 Overton Rebel Yearbook is designed for the
convenience and enjoyment of the visiter, and that any part of the yearbook
should be reachable from any other part.
The goal is that every page be easily available. To that end, extensive
directories and menu link bars have been created.
|
Quick Start Description -
Most web pages on the internet are intuitive in nature and what you think
will work in a certain way is usually correct. This site is no different.
All of the links do what they seem to do from their names.
On this web site, there are five different views of the yearbook pages.
These are: one yearbook page per screen, two yearbook pages per screen, four
yearbook pages per screen, six yearbook pages per screen, and eight yearbook
pages per screen. These differing views are linked to on the menu bars on
every page and are respectively referred to as 1, 2, 4, 6, & 8 as part of the Dir
directory link name, and as part of the QDir quick directory link name.
If you 'feel' lost at times, use the Prev and Next links, or a QDir link,
or a Dir link, and then choose the page number you desire to return you to
being 'found'.

The Directory Pages
|
The Home Page -
This is also the Start Directory and contains links that take you directly
to many sections of the yearbook.
It also contains links to the other features of the site. These include:
- a reference to the yearbook pages of the current members of Classmates.com
who are actually in this yearbook;
- a link to a commentaries page for those who wish to comment on any aspect
of any page in the yearbook;
- and, a link to a notes page containing information about how this site
came to be.
All of the other directories and quick directories are also available
using the links on the menu bar. They are described below.
|
The Main Full Directory -
This directory contains access to all views of all pages.
In addition to the menu bars that take you to the various other
directories, the main directory also includes small thumbnail
representations of every page in the yearbook, and titles for those pages.
These thumbnail links take you to the view of your choice for the page(s)
of your choice
These thumbnail picture sets are arranged left to right in the
following order (and when you click on them they take you to) :
- Full Page: the best view of the titled page by itself;
- Open Book: a view of the titled page with its facing page in a one-screen display of the two pages as in an open yearbook.
- Four Page: a view of the titled page with three other pages in order on one screen;
- Six Page: a view of the titled page with five other pages in order on one screen:
- Eight Page: a view of the titled page with seven other pages in order on one screen.
The way you decide to go through the pages from this directory is
your choice. If you choose to use the views that have more than one
yearbook page on them, each page displayed on that screen can be seen in
full one-page view by simply clicking on the image of that page.
To save you from having to load and reload the directories, when
you make a selection from any directory with titles beside the page link,
the page link opens a new browser window above the directory. The directory
remains available beneath the new window.
After viewing your selection, you may either close the new window, or
activate the directory window using its button on the Task Bar at the bottom of
your monitor.
If you close the new window, the directory window is presented to you
again. If you make another selection from the directory, another new window
will open and you can repeat the process.
If you choose to leave the new window open and activate the directory
from the Task Bar, the new window remains open beneath the directory. If you
make another selection from the directory, it will be placed into the new
window that is already open, and you can select it from the Task Bar.
All directory links to page views work this way.
|
The Other Full Directories -
These directories contain access to all views of all pages, but specialize
in a particular view.
The Dir 1 directory lists all yearbook pages with titles and a link
to the one-page-per-screen view of every page.
In the same way, the Dir 2, Dir 4, Dir 6, and Dir 8 directories list
the yearbook pages and titles with links to each respective view.
Once you have chosen a link from any of these directories and actually
view a yearbook page (or pages), you can switch to another view of any
set of pages by using the menu link bars on the viewing pages.
|
The Page View Menu Link Bars -
These Page View Menu Bars differ from those on the directories. While viewing a
page or set of pages on a page-view screen, the menu link bar at the bottom of the web
page contains links to the various other screen views of that particular page
or set of pages. It also contains links to the Dir and QDir directories for
that particular view, as well as Next Screen and Previous Screen links.
These menu bars allow you the freedom to jump from view to view
while maintaining your place in the yearbook. If you are looking at
pages 92-95 in the four pages-per-screen view, and jump to the eight
pages-per-screen view, the link to the Eight Per Page view on that page
will take you to the eight-page view of pages 92-99, keeping you close to
where you are.
Similarly, if you jump from an eight-per-page view of pages 92-99 to
a lower view, say four-per-page, you will be taken to a four-per-page view
within the set of those displayed on the eight-per-page screen.
Jumping between all of the various views works this way.
As discussed in the Main Full Directory above, the page view links to
other page views do NOT open new windows. Page view selections always reload
the current window.
|
The Quick Directories -
These directories have links to all of the same locations as the Main
Directory and the Page View Directories, but do not load any thumbnail
pictures. These are, therefore, the smallest and fastest loading of the
directories.
The menu bars for these directories are the same as for the Main
Directory and the Page Directories and take you to the various other
views available and to the other directories.
Except for the Main Quick Directory, these directories each offer
you a grid of page numbers to choose from at the top without titles or
thumbnails. If you know which page you want to go to, you can click on that
page link in the grid. Below this grid is the long listing with page titles
as well as the indivual page number links.
Selecting a link on a quick menu works the same way as on the full
directories, and opens a new window to view the yearbook page selected,
leaving the quick directory in an open window to return to.
|
The Classmates Directory -
This directory lists all of the current members of Classmates for the years
'63, '64, and '65, and offers links to all of the pages where they appear
in the 1963 yearbook.
|
The Commentaries Directory -
The Commentaries Directory links to the pages of the yearbook where
comments have been offered by viewers of those yearbook pages. Such
comments can include insights about the events or individuals portrayed
on a given page.
The Commentaries Directory will include a small picture of the page
that a comment was left on and the name of the writer who left the comment.
The picture of the yearbook page will be the link to the single
page view of the page, and the comments themselves will be at the bottom
of that page.
|
The Notes Page -
The Notes Page contains the commentaries of the web site designer. These
comments are offered to help the viewer understand how this web site came
to be. It also contains a fully-loaded description of the site, the html
pages it is made from, and suggestions to others who might be considering
a similar web site construction project.
This Notes Page is made available on the Home Page only.
How every page is constructed and why are a couple of the items
discussed on this page. This page is a more comprehensive discussion of the
web site for those who wish to venture far beyond the normal.
