Cleavant Derricks portrays Rembrandt (Crying Man) Brown, a retired 1970s pop music star. He was well-known for crying real tears from each eye individually in every performance, which earned him the nickname "Crying Man." Brown was the lead singer for the pop group "The Spinning Tops" before their breakup in the late 1970s.
After the breakup, "The Spinning Tops" went on to produce 13 number one hits without the beloved "Crying Man", who was not so fortunate. At best, he became part of a series of tours until his final onstage performance in the late 1980s.
In 1995, Rembrandt's manager works out a deal with Candlestick Park where the "Crying Man" is scheduled to sing the National Anthem at the Giants game on September 27th -- his big comeback.
While driving on his way to Candlestick Park, Rembrandt is highly thrilled about his comeback. However, a peculiar circular anomaly (okay, an interdimensional wormhole) appears out of nowhere and sucks him (and his cadillac) up -- slamming them both into a giant iceberg on an alternate version of Earth.
