News On the Third Season DVD

Sci-Fi.com has listed July 19 as the release date for Season 3. Universal Studios has not yet confirmed this date, however given the fact Sci-Fi is owned by Universal it looks very likely that we will see Season 3 in July. I will post more information including extras when I learn something new.

More Details on the DVD set

As listed in prees releases, Sliders will have Mono Audio. That appears to have been a mistake. Quantum Leap, which was also stated to have Mono audio, actually has a Stereo Track. Also Sliders not only was aired in Stereo in broadcast airings, but was listed on Dolby's site to include a Dolby Pro Logic Surround track as well. So it looks like Sliders will include a Stereo audio track. Also I can confirm that the Making of Featurette will be a newly recorded feature, not the one aired on the Sci-Fi Channel, and in a surprising note both Jerry O' Connell and Cleavant Derricks have participated in the feature (no word on other cast members). I always expected Cleavant Derricks to be involved but Jerry's involvement comes as a shock seeing why Jerry left Sliders in the end.

Unversal is billing this set as the collectible package of the year, and now I agree! Can't wait until August 3rd

Jerry O'Connell To Discuss Sliders Movie

Jerry O'Connell, who starred in The SCI FI Channel series Sliders, told SCI FI Wire that he is scheduled to meet the week of Mar. 6 with series co-creator Robert K. Weiss to discuss the possibility of making a feature film based on the show. It would be O'Connell's first association with the series since he left it after the fourth season.

Speaking at a press event to promote his upcoming movie Mission to Mars, O'Connell said, "I'm meeting with [Weiss] next week for a possible Sliders movie. A feature film. ... [It] should be pretty fun." Weiss co-created the popular SF series in 1995 with Tracy Torme.

O'Connell, who played the lead character Quinn Mallory, said he lost touch with the show since he left, owing in part to what he called a contractual dispute between him and Studios USA, which owns the show. It's part of the reason he would decline to take part in another television series based on Sliders, O'Connell said. Studios USA had no comment on the dispute. Studios USA is owned by USA Networks, which also owns The SCI FI Channel.

In Mission to Mars, O'Connell plays astronaut Phil Ohlmyer, who takes part in a rescue mission to the red planet. "It's so much more fun to be an astronaut," he said of his role. "You put on that spacesuit every day. You have the American flag over one arm. You've got a NASA patch on another. That's like every red-blooded American's dream come true. It was a real pleasure. I was like a four-year-old again getting into that suit. I loved it."

Sliders Movie Is In The Works

Sliders co-creator Robert K. Weiss said he is hoping to develop a feature film version of the SF television series, with production starting in late 2000 or early 2001. Weiss made the comments in response to questions in an online chat with fans, according to the Earth Prime fan Web site.

Weiss said he hopes the film will reflect the characters and situations in the first two seasons of the series, which premiered on Fox, then ran later on the SCI FI Channel. He also said he hopes to reunite the original cast, though he added that no talks have occurred with any of the actors.

Once he writes a screenplay, Weiss said he'd have to persuade Universal, which owns the rights to the show, to agree to develop a feature film.

Sci-Fi Cancels Sliders

During a chat with TV Guide Online, Sliders stars Tembi Locke and Robert Floyd told fans that Sliders will not be renewed for a sixth season. SCI FI, which picked up Sliders after the show was canceled by Fox, confirmed that the series will be coming to an end.

According to a SCI FI spokesperson, the channel thinks highly of Sliders but feels the show has simply run its course. During its five-year run Sliders was canceled and resurrected twice, and the show also suffered the loss of four major cast members.

Most recently Locke and Floyd replaced Sliders mainstay actor Jerry O'Connell and his real-life brother Charlie, who played Quinn and Colin Mallory in the series. Many fans felt that move signalled an end to the show, since Jerry O'Connell has long been considered the heart of Sliders.

The Expert's Site shut down

Vistors to the Expert site Today got a shock, the site is gone. The only thing that is on the site is the text "All good things". The Expert site was a very usefull newswire source, with the latest news on Season 5, and was the source last year for all the Season 4 episodes. This site and other Sliders fans will greatly miss the Expert. As of yet I've been unable to find out why the Expert has taken his site down.

Season 5 will be the Final Season for Sliders: More on Season 5

It's official! It was announced at Sci-Fi Con 3.0 that Season 5 will be Sliders last season. Season 5 as we all know won't have the O'Connell's in it, but will have 2 new characters. Mallory (Robert Floyd), who due to a lab accident carries elements of Quinn inside him, and Diana Davis (Tembi Locke), a physicist and will essentially be our group scientist.

Facts and Rumors regarding Season 5:

10/9/98

O'Connell's Depart Sliders

When production begins on the fifth season of Sliders next week, co-stars and real-life brothers Jerry and Charlie O'Connell--who played the on-screen brothers Quinn and Colin Mallory--won't be returning. The sibling actors have left Sliders for other projects, and they will be replaced by Robert Floyd and Tembi Locke in two newly created roles.

The Sci-Fi Channel is extremely supportive of Jerry and Charlie and we respect their decision to pursue other projects," said Stephen Chao, the president of programming and marketing for USA Networks. Sliders' most appealing element is its unique premise of traveling to parallel Earth dimensions, and we are excited to continue the adventures for another season--with more innovative plot twists in store for the audience."

Sliders, which also stars Cleavant Derricks and Kari Wuhrer, ran on Fox from March 1995 to May 1997 before coming to the Sci-Fi Channel on June 8. Since then it has been the channel's highest-rated prime-time program, averaging a 1.5 household rating in the Monday, 9 p.m. ET, time slot.

The fifth season of Sliders will air on the channel in 1999.

Jerry and Charlie O'Connell not returning for Season 5!

I've put off reporting on this rumor until an "official" source confirmed or denied this. Well, there is now a good chance that neither Jerry or Charlie will return for Sliders 5th and possibly last season. At DragonCon, Sliders producer Marc Scott Zicree gave us a hint that Jerry and Charlie won't return:

Moderator: <HenryTheDog> to <Moderator>: Any thoughts on how to explain the
disappearance of Quinn & Colin in S5?

MarcZicree: Nothing solid yet on that yet, but there definitely will be an explanation... and it
won't be that somebody had a dream for the last four years.

The Good News:

Season 5 wasn't began filming yet, so there is a slim chance (VERY slim) that Universal Studios might come to there sense's and resign Jerry and Charlie. There also is a chance Jerry might appear in a latter episode of Season 5.

No cast information has been announced for Season 5 yet, but heres a quick rundown of what we know!

Number of Episodes: 18

Cast

Jerry O'Connell: Not Resigned
Cleavant Derricks: Signed
Kari Wuher: Signed
Charlie O' Connell: Not Resigned
Sabrina Lloyd: Possible Guest appearance.
John Rhys-Davies: Most likely won't return.

Sci-Fi Renews Sliders

The Sci-Fi Channel has renewed Sliders for a fifth season, ordering 18 new episodes of the series that will air in 1999. Sliders has been the highest-rated show on the Sci-Fi Channel since it debuted on the network on June 8, earning an average 1.8 household rating in the Nielsens.

"Sliders' outstanding performance on the channel has brought record-breaking ratings," said Stephen Chao, the president of programming and marketing for USA Networks. "Its renewal reflects the commitment we have to expanding our roster of exciting original programming."

Sliders stars Jerry O'Connell, his real-life brother Charlie O'Connell, Cleavant Derricks and Kari Wuhrer. The series previously ran on Fox, from March 1995 through May 1997.

More News on Season 5

The Experts page is reporting that Kari Wuhrer has also resigned with a raise. Jerry O'Connell and Charlie O'Connell still havn't signed to a season 5 yet. There are rumors that Jerry may only come back for 3 episodes and that the producers want Jerry for more episodes. This is just a rumor, still no official announcment. It looks like Charlie will only return if Jerry does. Season 5 is expected to have 18 episodes ,although I've also heard that there might be only 13 episodes, We'll have to wait for the official word from Sci-Fi.

Season 5?

While there is still no official word from Universal Studios or the Sci-Fi Channel about a fifth season, The Experts page is reporting that there will be a Season 5, however only Cleavant Derricks (Rembrandt Brown) has resigned. It also looks like Charlie O' Connell (Colin) will return. Kari Wuhrer (Maggie) is expected to resign, but wants more money. As far as Jerry O' Connell (Quinn) goes, it is still up in the air. USA Networks are expected to resign Cleavant, Charlie, and Kari before attempting to resign Jerry. The Experts page is also reporting that Jerry may appear in only a few episodes next season. We'll just hope that Jerry resigns for the whole season (leats face it, Jerry is Sliders, Jerry and Cleavant are the Only 2 orginal Cast members.) As far as Sabrina Lloyd goes, she will be starring in a new ABC comedy. If that show doesn't make it, she might return. There are rumors that She already approched Sliders producers about a storyline bringing Wade in as a double. However don't look for her to return full time. As far as John Rhys-Davies goes, it is highly unlikely that he will return (to expensive for one). Filming is expected to begin in September.

Sliders Makes Sci-Fi History

The new season of Sliders debuted on the Sci-Fi
Channel Monday night (June 8, 1998) to record viewing numbers,
becoming the channel's highest rated series premiere
of all time. The first of two back-to-back original
Sliders episodes ran at 9 p.m. ET and earned a 2.2
household rating in the Nielsens, which represents
1,072,000 homes. The second original episode ran at
10 p.m. ET and garnered a 2.4 rating, or an estimated
1,168,000 homes.

Those numbers were enough to best the channel's
former record-setting premiere, the two-hour pilot for
Space: Above & Beyond, which aired in January and
earned a 2.1 household rating. Sliders also set a new
mark for the highest-rated series episode on the
channel, a title formerly held by the second telecast of
V: The Series, which earned a 1.8 rating in August
1996.

The new episodes of Sliders kicked off the show's
fourth full season and its first on the Sci-Fi Channel.
Sliders originally ran on Fox for three seasons before
being pulled from that network's programming lineup.
