WWE CEO Linda McMahon and the now former Undisputed champion The Rock were busy this morning with their "Pledge to Participate' activities in New York City however the two took time to go to the New York Stock Exchange building and ring the opening bell. This is the second time that WWE personalities rang the opening bell at NYSE, the first time being when WWE changed their listing to NYSE from NASDAQ. On that occasion, Vince, Linda, Stephanie, Shane and his wife Marissa McMahon did the honors.

On the developmental territories, there continues to be controversy. Shane McMahon is said to have argued that WWE has been spending too much in that department, while Jim Ross has argued for its necessity. With business down and to explain the fact that not a lot of wrestlers still training haven't been cut, they have begun introducing characters to some of the secondary TV shows with little to no background.

Many wrestlers say they wouldn't be shocked if Stacy Keibler was next in-line for a "jump-ship" angle from SmackDown! to RAW as her boyfriend Test is now on the RAW brand with the rest of the UnAmericans. Some say while neither have any major pull with management, other than Test's friendship with Shane McMahon, the couple generally gets their way.

Last night, Johnny Ace called Les Thatcher, who ran HWA, and informed him that the federation would no longer serve as a WWE developmental territory. Johnny also stated that they might re-sign a deal with HWA in the future, but not unless business improves and they find the need for such a relationship. Shane McMahon was reportedly very strongly in favor of the decision to make the roster cuts because it saves WWE money.

Shane McMahon was backstage at King of the Ring, RAW, and SmackDown! last week. This comes off as a little odd as Shane McMahon is notorious for making stops at pay-per views and casually missing RAW and SmackDown! the same week.

Many wrestlers backstage believe that the reason Shane McMahon hasn't been present backstage at TV shows recently is because he is unhappy with the current direction of the company. However, it is also believed that he doesn't have the "tools" needed to fix the problem.
5.23.02 - The following is from wrestlingdotcom.com
Shane McMahon has not been at television events for the past couple of months. Before that he had been a regular in the backstage area. He would normally help out with production of segments and organization of the shows.
