Report Card
Shane McMahon

Goal Achievement: Shane is every bit as ruthless and dictatorial as his father. Only time will tell whether Shane will possess the same cunning intelligence. That quality must develop over time, but there's no reason to believe that he won't succeed. Diabolical Shane is the only man who could make his father seem good in comparison. Shane successfully pulled off the most intricate charade of 1999 when it was revealed that Vince McMahon was the "Greater Power" all along. He didn't succeed in preventing his sister, Stephanie, from dating Test, and now he appears to be in favor of the relationship. But that cold be a grand ruse as well.

Grade: A

Health: McMahon has come a long way since entering the spotlight two years ago. Far more than a rich daddy's boy, he has proven himself to be an intelligent and savvy co-owner of the WWF. However, Shane has a resource that remains, for the most part, untapped. That is his own physical ability. He upset X-Pac for the European title this year and has shown just as much guts as his old man in the squared circle. One of the visual highlights of 1999 was Shane's flying elbow smash from the top turnbuckle and onto Test, who was stretched out on a ringside table during their SummerSlam bout.

Grade: B

Creativity: Don't underestimate the depths to which Shane will sink. Everyone thought he had overthrown his father by kicking Vince out of The Corporation and merging the group with The Ministry of Darkness. That turned out to be a trick to dupe Steve Austin, but in Shane's mind, it could have been a practice run for doing the real thing. Credit Shane with his tremendous acting ability. No one doubted he wanted to screw Vince more than anybody.

Grade: A

Marketability: There aren't any Shane McMahon action figures on the toy shelves, and there probably won't be in the near future. It will take a lot of effort for Shane to be known as anything but Vince's son, though for a time he was every bit as hated as his dad. Ironically, Vince Jr. faced the same dilemma when his father ran the WWF. Vince Jr. was a topnotch broadcaster and involved in the day-to-day operations of the federation, yet he was always know as Junior in the wrestling community. Junior had to revolutionize the sport to emerge from his father's shadow. Shane might have to do the same.

Grade: D

Career Growth: Does Shane want to be an on-air personality? Does he prefer to be the WWF's president of new media? Or does he want to be a full time wrestler? Ultimately, Shane must decide what to do with the prime of his life. He's spreading himself too thin. It's conceivable that Shane could be the WWF owner or WWF champ. He can't be both. Regardless of his future decisions, Shane has established himself second only to Vince in terms of power in the federation.
