Shane and Stephanie on Off The Record

- The host, Landsberg started off and asked what it was like growing up in the McMahon family.
Shane responded by saying that the whole family was tight and they were always close. They always had a family dog. They're a super family hat
was just hard to understand unless you lived with them. They were together 24-7. They were always at home together, on the road together,
and at work together.
- Landsberg then asked what it was like to have a father that was always being criticized. Landsberg said Vince McMahon was always mangled by the
media, and asked what it was like growing up with the media doing this to their father?
Shane said it hurt. He said he would read all the untruths and think to himself, who is this son of a bitch. He would get very angry because he
knew his father never did all the bad things that the media said he did.
Stephanie said it was incredibly unfair. The media doesn't want to know the truth because the truth doesn't get ratings. Stephanie was proud of
her family.
Shane also mentioned the JFK Jr. tragedy and how the media
would exploit this all the time.
Stephanie said the media has a responsibility. They should do research
on a topic and be responsible about it and investigate everything. She spoke of a writer who once wrote that Vince McMahon was worse than
Hannibal the Cannibal. Vince told the writer to meet him and his family,
and then make his decision on whatever he thought of Vince. But the writer would not meet Vince. This same writer also wrote that Linda
McMahon (Vince's wife) was a lesbian. Stephanie said that the media has a responsibility to the people, but it also has a responsibility to the
people they are writing about.
Both Shane and Stephanie attended the Boston University.
- Landsberg then asked if both Shane and Stephanie planned on always being in the WWF.
Shane and Stephanie both said they always wanted to be in this business.
Shane has wanted to since he was 2 years old. That was when he attended
his first wrestling event. Right away he knew he always wanted to be apart of the WWF. He wanted to be the tag team partner of Andre The
Giant. When he was younger, he thought that him and Andre would be WWF tag team champions one day.
Stephanie said she didn't know that.
- Landsberg asked Stephanie if her father would ever allow her to date a wrestler.
Stephanie said she would date a wrestler if she wanted to, but it would
not be good business. It wasn't in the best interest of the company.
- Shane was then asked if he was comfortable exposing his life and who he really is on TV.
Shane responded by saying who he is on camera is totally different from who he is in real life.
- Landsberg asked about all the opportunities he was given in life by his father. Landsberg said that a lot of other people must have been
jealous, or had a jealous attitude towards him. Landsberg asked how he
would deal with that?
Shane responded by saying he doesn't deal with it. His father gave him
unbelievable opportunities. He has lived a charmed life. He has had every advantage that everyone wishes they could give their kid. There is
nothing wrong with a father helping his son.
- Vince in an Internet interview was asked who was the next Stone Cold. Vince said that it was Shane.
Shane in response said he was flattered that Vince McMahon would say
something like that. He thinks Stone Cold is the greatest talent there is. He feels privileged to work with Stone Cold, Ken Shamrock, HHH, the
Undertaker, and the rest of the WWF roster.
- Landsberg asked Stephanie if she was given the company today, what she would do with it, and what would be a positive direction?
She said that there was no direction that the WWF couldn't go. The WWF
is expanding into all forms of entertainment. She would take it as far as she could. But she wouldn't do it alone.
- Landsberg mentions that the fans think that the WWF shouldn't head so much into the entertainment. What ever happened to wrestling?
Shane said that the popularity of the WWF is sky-rocketing. Ratings are
the highest they have ever been. The entertainment aspect is a natural extension. TV shows, music albums, movies, why should the WWF be limited
to one thing. Stephanie also mentioned that the WWF is already in, and well off in the music business considering the "WWF Album Volume 3" is
platinum.
Quirky Fact: Stephanie's WWF on-camera debut was at a Rowdy Roddy Piper
Halloween Party.
- Landsberg then asked both guests what their role, or real job was in the WWF.
Shane said he runs the Internet division. He is the president of "New
Media", a natural extension of where the WWF's brand should go. He is involved in the creative process as well as the general direction of the
company.
Stephanie is an account executive in the New York sales office. She said
they also have offices in Toronto and Chicago. The WWF sells its advertising time and she goes out and brings in as many clients as she
can that fit the WWF brand.
- Landsberg then moved on to another question that asked Shane how has the Internet changed the business?
Shane responded by saying the fans have an appetite for what they do.
The fans know a lot and that's good because the WWF has a relationship with their fans. The fans can never know too much, go ahead and give
them all the news they need. The WWF takes a lot of their ideas and input from message boards and chat rooms. They totally interact with the
fans. The WWF are great listeners. WWF listens to the fans. They give something back to the fans by giving them special interviews with Stone
Cold Steve Austin, and they also have "Code Red" right before RAW with lots of updates as well as all the latest news for the fans.
- Landsberg then asked Stephanie if she had any limitations? He asked if she would ever take on a role similar to Debra, as in selling sex?
Stephanie responded by saying she hasn't reached her limitations yet.
She's not quite as built as Debra, and she has a conservative character. She will just follow the storylines, but she can do what she wants.
- Another question asked was what they thought of Vince taking bumps.
Shane was concerned. He said he knew his father was a tough man, but he
feels shocked when he sees his father get hurt. He can't tell Vince to stop, because his father is so stubborn.
Stephanie also said that it's tough to see a loved one in pain. If you love to do something, then you should do it. And Vince loves to wrestle.
- Landsberg then asked Stephanie if she would ever wrestle?
Shane doesn't want his sister to wrestle, but Stephanie said she would
not mind wrestling. It's just not in the storyline right now. They then played the name game, where Landsberg says a name and Shane &
Stephanie would say the first word that popped into their heads.
Hulk Hogan: Old, 1980's.
Test: Canadian
Mean Street Posse: [Shane begins to clap]
Stephanie says terrible.
Sable: Not allowed to comment
Steve Austin: The bomb
Undertaker: Phenom
Mark Calloway: Phenom
Vince McMahon: King, he's the bomb, and passionate about life.
Stephanie then said how passionate Vince was and that the only bad thing
about him that she could think of was how brutally honest he was, but that it still was the best way to be. He always tells it like it is.
