The following is a transcript from Shane's appearance
on "Opie and Anthony" around the time of Backlash.
This transcript was taken from the Pro
Wrestling Torch.
Shane McMahon on "Opie and Anthony"
Shane McMahon was a guest on yesterday morning's "Opie and Anthony" afternoon
drivetime radio show on 102.7 FM in New York City to promote Backlash. PWTorch.com reader Akai Bilal of Brick City, N.J. sent in the following
report...
The O&A Show, for those who don't know, is the same show that The Rock walked
out on when one of the shows regular contributors made racists remarks on a website about Rock, and also the same guys that vowed to never mention or
promote the WWF on their show again because they were not allowed in to the grand opening of "WWF New York" restaurant, after they were given special
premiere invitations by the WWF.
Apparently the WWF felt that Opie & Anthony are not fans they wanted to lose
as supporters, probably because they cater to the same rating demographic audience because Vince McMahon made an appearance on the show to personally
apologize for the inconvenience and to make up for it gave the two hosts an all-expense paid trip to Anaheim, Calif. to see Wrestlemania 2000. Since then
many WWF wrestlers have made appearances on the O&A show to promote many things and the hosts have nothing but great things to say about the WWF now.
Shane McMahon stayed for about 10 minutes and he showed a good sense of humor and came off like a really nice guy as the hosts asked funny questions about
Stephanie, Vince, Linda, and other WWF wrestlers.
Shane started off by congratulating O&A for becoming the no.1 radio show in the ratings for their time slot, "It was long overdue and now WWF and O&A
show are on top of the world." Hosts thank Shane for the Wrestlemania 2000 tickets. They say they had a great time, but Shane didn't see them at the
after party.
The hosts joke that they weren't invited and Shane says they were but couldn't get in. Hosts ask Shane if he will be cheating at Backlash and Shane
says, "No, everybody knows Shane calls it straight down the middle." Shane says he is at the WWF studios running around getting his wind up for the
match at Backlash where he will be the referee, and they joke about the times Shane got beat up by Stone Cold and how fast he runs away from an ass
whipping.
Hosts want to know if they're speaking with Shane McMahon or Shane O Mac the character. Shane says he slides in and out of both. Hosts ask Shane to slide
into character for a moment because he has something to say to him and he doesn't want to insult the real Shane. He then says, "Stephanie is a slut."
(funny) Hosts ask Shane if it's hard hearing the chants and signs directed at Stephanie? Shane says it's tough but nothing bothers Steph and she's okay
with it. Shane says he saw a sign the other day that said "Steph Swallows" that made him want to beat up the fan holding it.
Hosts ask Shane if Vince ever asked Stephanie to do an angle that she was totally against or rejected. Shane said never but that Stephanie is just as
crazy as Vince. Hosts say it must be hard for the writers to go to Vince with ideas for Stephanie's character. Shane says they go to him. Hosts say,
"Imagine going to Vince with a double thong and dildo on a pole match for Stephanie."
Hosts ask how the guys feel about Rikishi putting his ass in their faces. Shane says it's called "the stink face" by the boys, and that Pete Rose
didn't mind it and thought it was fun. Says that Rose will not take another Kane chokeslam because his head hurt from the last one. Hosts and Shane give
props to the guys in the Three Team Ladder Match at WrestleMania 2000 and Shane gives extra big props to The Dudley Boys because they're from Long
Island and they're great. Hosts say they are part of the same strip club scene as the Dudleys and want to bump into them one day. Shane says Dudleys
are facing T & A at the PPV and that brings up Trish Stratus' name who Shane
says he's been pushing the writers to make up an angle for him to work with
Trish. They all agree Trish is hot.
Hosts see a turn between Rock or Austin or everybody turns on Triple H. Shane: "WWF writers are great." Kudos to everyone involved in making the WWF
product what it is. Hosts play a very short "Guess This Soundbite" where Shane guesses correctly that it is Jimmy Snuka. Shane says the chairshots
really hurt after someone on the show asks him how they make them look real.
Hosts ask Shane the status of these wrestlers before one last plug for
Backlash:
-Undertaker: reinjured pec while working out to return; is very pumped and is dying to come back...
-Shawn Michaels: Tremendous talent; it's a shame he will not wrestle again "He is the M.J. of wrestling." Shane says he is still an asset to the company
and they reserve the right to use him when needed.
-Mick Foley: Retired and recouping in Florida. He is the oldest 34 year old in the business, "He might even return to the ring after taking time to heal."
-Linda McMahon. He says she is not acting. She is really herself when she does her thing on TV. Hosts say the McMahon ladies have improved their acting
skills. Shane asks, "Are they acting?"
-Billy Gunn: Out about three more months because of a very brutal injury.
-Ken Shamrock: He says he doesn't know much about Kenny's status except that he's training for a shoot fight in Japan.
-Rock: Shane says he's taking only one week off to film the movie contrary to initial reports. "We can't have that, although I assure you he will not be
filming the Mummy as the WWF Champion." Shane says he's psyched for the PPV. The hosts say goodbye, the interview ends.
