TAKE a RIDE WITH ME:
First I would like to thank everyone that take the time to read stories they encounter on the Internet. Some of these sites have personality. I hope to make this one of those.
This is where I take you back to the beginning of my World Wide Web & Internet experience. I find it a very interesting story.
I had never used a compatible type computer before June of 1996. Sure I've considered myself computer literate for many years but my choice platform had only been a Commodore 64c. My reasoning for years was why learn some new language. Was I wrong ( I'll address this a little later ). Although I didn't really play games, I found enough productive software at yard sales, flea markets, swap meets and on many bbs's to make me think I was in the big time. I stayed comfortable with that fact for a long time.
I've always been this techno savy person, you know the type;
but in the end I've only been a late bloomer (but I was a fast learner).
- always knows the latest high tech changes in the computer industry
- who were the winners and losers
- the movers and shakers
- could tell you what was wrong if you asked
It was May 1997, and I'm playing catch-up on a technology that I let slip by for years. But because I faced that issue head-on I am happy to say that these past months have been quite formative.
HOW I GOT TO THIS POINT:
As I said my computer of choice had been Commodore and needed a ribbon for my Star Gemini II Printer. I was lucky to find a company ( the only listing for Commodore in the Orange County phone book ), that carried what I needed and more. A Company Director made me very comfortable with my purchases, and I made this my hangout for supplies ( even helped a customer with a Commodore related problem ). A number of visits later I would meet another Director of the Company. We became drawn together by technology and related issues about Internet websites. The Company had some web developers design a website but didn't have the access that was needed to make the day to day changes needed to stay current with the stores merchandise prices. My suggestion, build it yourself. We discussed many HTML editing packages. Microsoft Frontpage had lots of press at that time so it became my choice for designing of websites. This went on for a number of meetings until one day he showed me his choice for a developing package. It was called Deltapoint Quicksite ( up until then I had never heard of it ) that he had picked up at the local computer supply store. LOVE IT NOW!
Here are those sites:
Trans International Co., LTD
Trans Data InternationalThey are still up and running and making a profit. Look close, you gotta find me but I'm there.
THE CHALLENGE:
As I said we had discussed web page developing products for weeks before he would choose the product he wanted and felt was easy enough to use. I was given the manual to the Quicksite program and asked would I learn it. That was June 1996, and for many months we toiled together as we worked to create the site. I think it came out really good. The approach was to keep it simple. We could see from searching many Internet sites how complicated you could make them, so the decision was made to make this site 100% user friendly.
So I committed myself to the challenge. Learn Quicksite. An experience I'll never forget. I would also like to give their technical support people(kw) kudo's for helping with the few problems I have encountered.
THE FUTURE
Dear Internet Friend,
Thank you for taking the time to see just what this site is all about.I have tried to give my personal site some of what I have learned while looking around at this vast amount of information. This past year has been one of the most productive mentally that I've had in a long time and it's all because of a challenge. Is this growth? you be the judge, but I think this is what the coming out party is suppose to look like. Where does one go from here? I do not really know. I have ideas and interest, but this catch up game is hard to come from behind while staying creative. But I will continue to try.
Now I've made another move. This is the next phase. This late bloomer has finally started to find some roots. The story is not finished by all means. This is just the continuation. I hope you enjoy.
Here is where I give some Heart. As of this writing I am 49 years old, and over the last decade have lost out on a number of things. The story is like many others that you have run across in many of your immediate families or have known of friends that didn't do as well as they should have. I guess that is possibly me.
As a young man, there was no stopping my dreams, my desires, my wants, and I thought I knew what the hell everything was about. Boy was I wrong. Let go back even further. Growing up was one of what I now call my demons. Broken home, death, on my on for the most part. But the broken home part I now know was the cause of many of my problems. I'm not going to dwell on this, and this is really the first time I've sat down to create some text, but this is going to be what I call my therapy. Please bare with me. We didn't have foster agencies then, I was 9, just friends(Vance, Martinez, Curry, Ventress), and family(Cheatom). Northern Calif. to live with family members was where I ended up. Things that I never had or seen were their, home, cars, trucks, boat, lake property. But most of all just plan old FAMILY.
I was not able to stay long because of a father that would have me return. But that FAMILY situation in Northern Calif. would stick and when I was able I would make that area my home. Early on I learned that jail was the easiest place to wind up, and was able to stay on the correct path although some of the crossroads were indeed traveled. Thank God I Made It.
My first wife can only be described as beautiful. Oaklahoma Creek Indian sums it up. I thought I knew what family was by then, but the demons of my child hood would rear its ugly head. Everyone had family, and I as a witness, can tell you that I wouldn't recommend you to make someone unhappy for what you assume would be a lifetime if you weren't raised in just a average family. Not rich, not poor, just a loving family. If I were to come back in another life I would like to try this family thing again, just to see if I can get it right. To my kids, Tameka Danielle, Michael Jr., Torry, Ketura, Jaime, if you ever read this, I can only ask you to forgive me. I don't deserve it I know, but I miss you more than you will ever know. I tried as I only knew, and it wasn't the correct way. Your Mother is truly a deserving person, I just didn't know what it would take, she did, I didn't listen. Forgive me.
Thanks Rochelle Denise Burton-Heredia and Torry Chanel, for keeping me somewhat sane.
To the grandkids, Briana, Denise, Desirae, Kezsanae, Kyiante, Kiari, Bobby, Jayme, I love you. You have permission to call anytime. To the grandkids that I haven't had the pleasure of meeting, I look forward.
Well folks, give or take a few years this has been a real learning experience. Its like I have taken more steps back than forward. But I continue to go on. Now I look at a new, maybe better life. I have started to find some roots. I have new friends, new opportunities, and a chance to change some wrongs. Thanks to the crew at SWG for making me feel at home.
I would like to take a few moments of your time to include you in my future goals. These goals not only affect me, but they just might affect you as well. In that same way, only with your help may I reach and exceed these goals.
Michael Burton International was founded to provide hi-tech services at reasonable prices. I believe that everyone should be able to take advantage of the web. This includes all business, small and large, and even just the casual web surfer. Price should not be the factor in getting a presence on the web. The only factors should be how and what type of information you wish to display on the web.
I also believe that personalized service will take the unknown out of the Web. By letting our customers know what is happening in plain English, we will be able to communicate better, and thus create the best possible site.
Above all we want to give anyone willing to use the Internet, the best Web Site Development possible. Also those that are not quite ready for the Internet, we want to show them how easy, fun, and productive the Internet can be. Any and everyone should make use of the Internet. We want to bring the Internet to you!
Thanks For Your Time,
Michael Burton Sr.
