PANATLAN MONUMENT 1.

Location: This sculpture comes from Panatlan in the Municipality of Angel R. Cabada and was moved to the courtyard of the regional museum in Santiago Tuxtla sometime prior to 1984.

Associations: None.

Condition: Tenon broken, center of face abraded.

Carved Areas: All surfaces.

Material: This monument was not tested by Williams. However, there is nothing about it to suggest that its material is any different than that of Monument 1.

Dimensions: Height 60 cm, Width 20 cm, Depth 114 cm.

Description: Panatlan Monument 1 is a horizontal tenon sculpture in the form of a prostrate human figure with the arms doubled at its sides. The hands are depicted as mittens without indications of fingers. The arms are defined by flowing lines and modeled forms. The figure wears a collar and single wristbands. The head projects upward from the mass of the tenon.
