Description: La Providencia Monument 1 is a horizontal tenon sculpture in the form of a prostrate human figure with the arms doubled at its sides. The hands are depicted as mittens without indications of fingers. The arms are defined by flat relief and angular forms. The figure wears a collar and single wristbands. The head projects upward from the mass of the tenon. The cranium has been removed and a buccal mask obscures the entire face below the level of the nostrils. The upper lip of the mask is a badly chipped double bracket with winged scrolls to either side. Below the center of the lip is a broken incisor with elements emerging from its lower edge. Flanking the stylized incisor are serrated tooth bands with pendant elements at the corners of the mouth. Above the buccal mask is a chipped nose knot. To either side of the nose are large lozenge-shaped eyes. At the sides of the face are cartouche shaped ear flares with central holes, a superfix and a subfix.
