HUEYAPAN DE MIMENDEZ MONUMENT 1

Location: Hueyapan de Mimendez Monument 1 was found by a local inhabitant, Pancha Samorano, in the Arroyo Hueapan just south of Hueyapan de Mimendez in 1970 and was placed in the site museum at its dedication in 1975.

Associations: None recorded.

Condition: Head missing, both arms broken at wrist, tenon broken.

Carved Areas: Sculpture in the round.

Material: This monument was found subsequent to Williams' work. However, there is nothing about it to suggest that its material is any different than that of Monument 1.

Dimensions: Height 23 cm, Width 30 cm, Depth 58 cm. Tenon height 17 cm, Tenon width 24 cm, Tenon depth 25 cm.

Description: Hueyapan de Mimendez Monument 1 is a horizontal tenon sculpture in the form of a prostrate human figure with the arms doubled at its sides. The head, hands and the end of the tenon are broken off. The arms are represented in low flat relief with no modeling and the tenon/body is rectangular in cross section.
