Location: Monument 23 was found by a local inhabitant in the southern plaza of Mound Group 1 and was placed in the site museum at its dedication in 1975.
Associations: None recorded.
Condition: Broken and battered.
Photographs: Present report, Plate 31.
Drawings: None.
Carved Areas: Sculpture in the round.
Material: This monument was found subsequent to Williams' work. However, there is nothing about it to suggest that its material is any different than that of Monument 1.
Dimensions: Height? 27 cm, Width? 40 cm, Depth? 37 cm.
Description: Monument 23 is an irregularly shaped stone fragment which has suffered extreme maltreatment. Though it is impossible to identify with certainty its original sculptural type, carved surfaces and even ornamental bands remain in some of the deeper declivities. Possibly the sculpture was an advanced type of seated figure or bound captive.
