Location: Monument 9 was discovered by Stirling during the 1938-39 field season "in a cornfield near the base of a [low] mound [Structure 47] about 400 yards west of Group 3" (Stirling 1943:23). Monument 9 was moved to the site museum at its dedication in 1975.

Condition: Missing from the thighs up. The right half of the monument has disappeared since 1943.

Material: This monument was not tested by Williams. However, there is nothing about it to suggest that its material is any different than that of Monument 1.

Description: Monument 9 is a cross legged seated figure. The legs are very compact and well rounded with deep carving between the thighs and calves. Only one foot is represented by a crudely shaped lump without indications of toes. The front loincloth apron has three bands and covers the crossed ankles. There is a round pit on the underside of the crossed legs. The remainder of the monument is missing.
