Material: This monument was not tested by Williams. However, there is nothing about it to suggest that its material is any different than that of Monument 1.

Dimensions: Diameter 150 cm, Thickness 25 cm.

Description: Altar 1 is a large circular altar. The upper surface of this altar has been chipped away at some point after it was placed in front of Fragment 1 of Stela C. The remaining face is smoothed and shows two cupped depressions, one of which may be artificial. The sides are also worked to produce its circular outline.

Remarks: Altars are not recognized as a sculpture category by students of Tres Zapotes Sculpture. Hence, Altar 1 has previously received no number and little attention.
