APATH Lecture:  Open House

March 3, 1999

Last week, instead of having someone come in and talk about their lives, we were the ones presenting to prospective APATH people at our annual Open House.  Through skits and presentations, we sent the message of fun and unity within the APATH community.

I feel that our message of fun was sent clearly across.  The many skits that we had were funny and emphasized the goals of APATH and what kind of events we do as a floor.  Our skit, APATH Jeopardy, used the questions and answers from the categories to reveal what our floor does.  Although some of the parts didn’t go as smoothly like I would have liked it to, such as the jingle, I did feel that the audience enjoyed the skit.  So, it was well worth the effort.

I feel that the other skits were also very clever and funny in their own ways.  However, I don’t know that using stereotypes was all that appropriate.  It might have offended some of the people in the audience.  Although I must admit, the stereotypes were all in good fun and we were pretty much making fun or ourselves.  I just hope that we didn’t send the message across that we an Asian clique and we are not accepting anybody else.

Besides that fact, I feel that everything else went well.  I felt that the video presentation was the best part of the night.  The camera crew worked really hard to get that together, and I give my hats off to those involved.  The food was great and it seemed like everybody enjoyed it.  It was truly a successful open house night.  I just hope that we inspired some interesting people to apply for next year.  If we did, I am glad to say that I was a part of that team.
