The Thunder Inside

I sit alone in my room
Outside the thunder crashes
And a jolt of lightning lights up the sky
I hang my head in fear and softly start to cry

Life has taught me strengths unknown
But until YOU I have walked it alone
Through the thunder I heard a voice ring clear
Whispering words of love upon my ear

"Take my hand" it said and walk with me
We can do this together
For our love will set us free
Share life "always and forever"

Then I heard my own voice
I was "The Wild Rose" you picked that day
Alone there in the middle of that field of gray
I was tattered and torn and lost in dismay

Suddenly I wanted to shrink into the ground and hide
You see that youth that shines so bright on your face
These old petals once dripped with its sweet dew
But Strength doesn't stop pain or aging

Without love and sunlight to drench these petals
They have faded and lost all hope for tomorrow
My leaves turned up from the tears that fell upon them
So many passed me by seeing only my outward part

But YOU stopped that day and reached out
And the feel of love you gave as you caressed my stem
The gentle way you broke into the soil as to not brake my roots
So softly you smiled and cradled me tenderly in your hand

You looked at me as if I was the most beautiful rose you had ever seen
I had not felt this way but once before
All of a sudden I wanted to spread my petals wide and scream
But I still heard the thunder inside

Slowly my color is coming back
I feel my roots loosening, and my stem stands taller
In time im sure I will see the beauty in me,
"The Wild Rose"
