The Special Butterfly

I watched as this cocoon opened, and oh what a beautiful site...
There before me was the most beautiful butterfly,
He stood and stretched his wings as wide as he could...
He was kind, and proud; life's morals already ingrained deep inside!
The way he hungered for freedom to be his own butterfly...
To be respected for what he needed to make him complete.

I watched as he took a very important flight...
He had found love and only wanted to do things right,
And to his dismay he found his wings clipped...
"Go and fly, be your own man", they said,
Then they set limits and watched as his heart bled...
But they was unaware of the pain inflicted with each snip.

I watched as this beautiful butterfly tried to please us all...
But the price he was to pay was just to great,
Life drained out of him slowly day after day...
He returned to his cocoon and tried so hard to squeeze back inside,
He was safe there, and needed its warm walls around him...
Oh how he tried to be his own person, but the pain just wasn't worth it.

I watched as he was drained of all that made him such a wonder...
His kind and gentle heart, his strong belief in cradling love,
His esteem broken and all his dreams fading out of sight...
It has made him so much less than he really is,
He just has to remember what he is supposed to do..
Spread your wings around me, let our love hold strong!
