Most of these are either from readers of my pages or the Yahoo
group for Monaros!
Most answers to your questions may be obtained by buying a copy of Warren
Turnbull's & Ben Stewart's The Monaro Story/The Monaro Facts book. Unfortunately it is now
out of print and you wil be lucky to find one. Please check out the link: http://www.monaro.com.au/warren_turnbull/monaro_story.htm
for more information. Warren has answered many questions as seen below but the book answers many
more!

Can anyone tell me if the front guards and nose cone off a HQ 4 door
Premier are the same and will fit straight onto my HQ LS Monaro?
Speaker control michael_vlahos
I have a device on the far right side of my dash called a speaker
control. Its just a round knob that can be turned. I first thought it was for balance control but I
thought the monaros only came with one speaker in the front.
Does anyone know if this is an official option or if the cars came with an extra speaker somewhere.
You can see the device in the interior pic in my photo
album.

I bought an overhaul kit for my saginaw 4 speed and pulled the gearbox
apart to find millions of roller bearings fall all over the place. Does anyone know how you hold the
new bearings in the layshaft when reassembling it???? Cos I have no idea, as soon as you move it
they just fall out.
Help please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have to make a dummy shaft and hold the bearings with grease. I have e mailed you extracts
from the Workshop manual. If you need any more help e mail me at ravklrr@pcpro.net.au

I have an HK MONARO and I was wondering what the body numbers were on
the ID plate. I want to put the original size engine back into it when I restore it.
My body number is: HK80737-*****M
And also what color does this number stand for on the ID PLATE on the
HK Monaro:587-1704
The next digit should be K for "HK".
The next two indicate where it was built, H1 - H4 = Brisbane, H5 - H9 = Sydney, J1 - J9 =
Melbourne, L1 - L5 = Adelaide, L6 - L9 = Perth.
The remaining five numbers represent the build number at that particular plant.
I hope this helps.

The colour of your car is 1704 silver mink met. If your car was originally a 307 the speedo cable
should come out in the middle of the firewall. 80737 could have been a 186s or a 307 as the HK's
did not distinguish between six or eight cylinder, except 81837.

I have an HK Monaro(80337) and I want to find out the original paint and
interior colour. At the moment it's white with a black interior but I don't think they're the
original colours. The numbers on the I.D. plate are as follows:
Paint: 568-10958
Trim: 1174-18X
Any help would be appreciated.
Hope this helps.

I have been looking for some information on my Monaro I am presently
restoring. It is a factory Silver Mink / 307 HK with a 2 speed powerglide. I would like to find out
what year it is, whether it is a 1968 or a 1969 year build. Its chassis/build number is
80737KH547641. The numbers on the firewall are HK39377. I have asked just about everybody and would
be very appreciative if you could help me.
Regards
Todd
From the info that I have, this is what I can tell you about your car.
I'll break down the chassis no for you.
80737 - Monaro GTS Coupe
K - "HK"
H5 - Built at the Sydney plant
47641 - build no at this plant.
There were 199,039 HK's built between July 68 and May 69 and only 8945 HK Monaro's. Since yours is
build no 47,641 I'd GUESS that it would be a 1968 model, but that is only a guess. To be sure you
could try giving Holden a call and giving the number to them.

Todd the Monaro is a 10/68 and the engine number should start 307148 to 307149.

Can anyone tell me the colour and code for a Red '73/4 HQ GTS and the
orange boot and bonnet paintouts? Better still anyone got a coupe in these colours for sale!
Kym
THE `PATCH` was Lone O`ranger 1822 and 13135.
I hope this helps !
The Q man. hqss_72
The colour is Tangerine and the insert is lone Oranger. I know of a mint 4 door in this
combination with black trim. By mint, has the original carpet etc and even smells like a new car,
never tampered with.

I've got a 1970 HT Monaro that I've been restoring for a number of years
now, all good things take time. Anyway, when I bought the car it had the stripes down the center of
it. It also had two stripes that run from the flutes on the side to the rear of the car. I carefully
measured these stripes before sanding the car back, but over the course of years it seems I've
misplaced them..So in short, I need to know the width of the two stripes that run along the side of
the car.....I would be truly grateful for any help you might be able to to give concerning this
issue....
Rob
Bonnet and decklid:
6" wide with a gap of 0.5" between them running up the centre.
The stripes enter the rear compartment down to the horizontal edge of the gutter.
The stripes enter the engine compartment on the vertical surface.
Side stripes:
Stripes 1.5" with a gap of 0.75".
Between the wheels they are 2.04" above the crease line. Behind the rear wheel, the front is
1.5" above the crease line and at the bumper 0.5" above the crease line.
Stipe enters rear of door opening 0.5".
On some cars the stripes start at the flute opening and others start on the guard at the flute
crease.
The decklid rear face has a black panel 6" wide
The colour is Warrigal black (06459) or Persian gold (11203).
I hope this helps.
