Datsun
Auster coupe
Datsun Stanza 1.8 sedan
This is the Japanese Stanza with 1.8 litre engine; note different
tailights (more similar to those used on the UK coupe below) and more curiously
vertical C-pillar vent. Picture courtesy of Wheels
magazine.

Datsun Stanza 5 door sedan
Same front tratment as our second series regular four door. Photo taken in
Johannesburg, South Africa. I saw a four door sedan with a similar front to the
wagon below (i.e single square lights), and similar tailights to our second
series. Both this and the wagon wear the same
Datsun Stanza 5 door sedan rear quarter
Photo taken in Johannesburg, South Africa. I was always suspicious of older
Datsuns and Nissans in RSA. Some may not have been sold new there as many UK
cars were "sold into servitude", i.e. shipped to RSA when they were no
longer worth repairing in Britain (some cars, like Eddie's yellow 160J
coupe (Violet/710), were stolen to
sell to the exporters! He got his back fortunately.). It is likely this would
have worn 160J badges had it been British originally, this one is clearly
badged as a Stanza.

Datsun Stanza sedan wagon front
Found this one of a kinda (probably) in St. Kilda in Victoria, Australia! Note
this has the simpler single rectangular nose of some overseas A10s.

See the three door (hatch)
coupe (this is not my photo).
(None of this type were supposed to be sold new in Australia, although I have
seen a green one in Adelaide!). A few people have written to tell me why there
are some here, as follows.
Tom Richardson wrote:- "I believe 50 Stanza Coupes were actually sold in
Australia, but they were unloaded from a freighter by accident in Melbourne.
Original destination was South Africa, but by the time Datsun had realised the
mistake the freighter was well on its way west, and the decision was taken to
sell the cars on the Australian market.
Well, at least that's what I understand happened. Lots of misinformation around
of course, so take it with a pinch of salt!"
