frequently asked questions

Here we have gathered the most common questions that collectors ask us regarding the Attic Treasures Collection.  If you don't see your question here, feel free to write us to ask.

1.  Why do some Attics have buttons and some do not?

A.  When the Attics were first introduced with clothing, many of them had buttons on their clothes.  The following chart documents the buttons that each had on the appropriate clothing.

Attic Name Description of Buttons
Brewster Blue round buttons
Carlton Gold buttons in a knotted pattern
Cassie Pewter button with blue center stone
Charles Gold disk buttons with a starburst pattern
Christopher Gold buttons with little eagles on them
Colby Gold button with center pearl
Dickens Gold disk buttons
Domino Black and white marbled buttons
Gilbert Gold buttons with little eagles on them
Grover Gold crested buttons
Heather Dark Blue round buttons
Henry Antique Brass colored buttons
Ivory Black and white marbled buttons
Jeremy White and black marbled buttons
Lilly Silver buttons with little craters
Madison Blue round buttons
Morgan Round wood-like button
Murphy Baseball buttons
Penelope Gold disk buttons
Purrcy Gold disk buttons
Tiny Tim Burgundy disk buttons
Tracy Gold buttons with a nautical crest
Watson Light burgundy round buttons
Wee Willie Round baseball buttons with blue "stitching"
Whiskers Black and white marbled buttons

At some point (we are not sure exactly of the timeline, but suspect in early 1997), Ty Inc. decided to produce the Attic clothing without buttons and to remove the buttons on the clothing already produced.  This explains why there are some loose threads often on the clothes that suggests the buttons were cut-off.  Late generation Attics with their original buttons generally command10-15% higher than the guide prices on the secondary market.  Interestingly, Attics in each of the first FIVE generations have been found both with and without buttons.

2.  How important are hang tags to the value of Attics and how do I know what generation I have?

A.  A hang tag is very important to the Attic Treasures for most collectors.  It is the only definitive method for determining the generation of the Attic with the exception of a very few.  In general, an Attic without its hangtag goes for about 50% less than a mint specimen with a mint tag.

3.  How do I identify Attic Tush tags?

A.  See the new tush tag section :-)
