2/2005 Tournament Results

On February 19th, 15 members of the YMCA Bushi Kai Karate school competed at the Alliance Karate Invitational held in Scottsburg Indiana.  This was a benefit tournament held to aid the Tsunami victims in South East Asia.  All proceeds from this event were donated to the relief fund.
A special appearance at the tournament by Jason David Frank (“Tommy” on the “Power Rangers” TV show) had to be canceled due to his being hospitalized with pneumonia.  Because of this, “Tommy” is sending a “Power Rangers” promotional kit to all the young competitors, which will include signed 8X10’s, posters and other “Power Rangers” memorabilia.  

The YMCA students were matched against Karate schools from all around the Midwest and all 15 Bushi Kai competitors brought home trophies.  Shihan Monte Troxell and Sensei Dudley Hellard, the YMCA instructors attended with their class.  The students competed at the tournament in Fighting, Kata (forms) and Weapons Kata.  The competitors were then further split into divisions according to age, sex and belt rank.

Charlie Shields:    1st in Fighting, 1st in Kata, 2nd in Weapons Kata -
                                   Men’s Novice Division.

Seth Shields:        1st in Kata, 3rd in Weapons Kata, 3rd in Fighting -
                                  Boy’s Novice Division

Bill Emerson:        1st in Fighting, 1st in Kata - Advanced Men’s  Division

Dakota Davis:       1st in Fighting, 1st in Weapons Kata, 2nd in Kata -
                                  Boy’s Novice Division

Elissha Mattheis: 1st in Fighting, 1st in Kata, 2nd in Weapons Kata -
                                  Youth Novice Division.

Samantha Hance: 1st in Fighting, 1st in Kata, 3rd in Weapons Kata, 3rd in
                                    Musical Kata - Youth Novice Division.

Christina Davis:   1st in Fighting, 1st in Weapons Kata, 2nd in Kata, 3rd in
                                   Musical Kata - Girl’s Novice Division

Chase Hamilton:  1st in Kata, 3rd in Fighting - Boy’s Novice Division

Katey Davis:       1st in Kata, 2nd in Weapons Kata - Girl’s Novice Division

Katie Ivey:            1st in Weapons Kata - Youth Novice Division

Seth Moore:         2nd in Fighting, 4th in Kata - Men’s Intermediate Division.
Joy Butcher:        2nd in Fighting, 3rd in Kata - Women’s Novice Division

A.J. Herr:              2nd in Fighting, 3rd in Weapons Kata - Boy’s Novice Division

Matt Davis:           2nd in Fighting, 2nd  in Kata, 2nd  in Weapons Kata -
                                Youth Novice Division

Cody Denney:     3rd in Fighting, 2nd in Weapons Kata, 3rd in Kata -
                                Youth Novice Division

In all, the 15 YMCA students competing brought home 16 First place trophies, 12 Second places, 10 Thirds and 1 Fourth place finish for a total of 39 trophies for the tournament.
