Toe San Kata
(a Korean Kata, derived from Pinan)
Basic H or I pattern
Ready stance, attention, bow.
1. Look left, 90 degree pivot shifting into left leg forward "back" stance,
double forearm face (Bo) block, right hand throws knife hand strike while
left hand covers to right ear. Slide step into a left horse stance, left hand
throws a side hammer punch.
2. Look right, shift into right leg forward "back" stance, double forearm face
block, left hand knife hand strike, while right hand covers to left ear. Shift
into a right horse stance, right hand throws a side hammer punch.
3. Sliding left foot back to right, come to attention stance, performing right
hand over left cover, right leg throws a side snap kick (with hands in
cover positions) and return to attention stance.
4. Look left, down the middle, slide step into left leg forward back stance,
double middle knife hand block.
5. Slide step into right leg forward back stance, continuing down the middle,
double middle knife hand block.
6. Slide step into left leg forward back stance, double middle knife hand
block.
7. Slide step into right leg forward front stance, spear hand to solar plexus
over left arm cover, KIAI.
8. Look right, scan left, 270 degree pivot left into left leg forward back
stance, double forearm face block, right knife hand strike, (left cover),
shift into a left horse stance and left hand throws a side hammer punch.
9. Look right, shift into a right foot forward back stance. Double forearm
face block, left hand knife hand strike, (right cover), shift into a right horse
stance, right hand throws a side hammer punch.
10. Look left, directly up the middle, left leg slides up the middle into a left leg
forward front stance, windmill right middle block.
11. Right hand reaches up the middle, grabbing "opponent" head high, right
leg front snap kick - head high, stepping softly down into right leg
forward front stance.
12. Left hand middle punch, left hand reaches up grabbing head high, left leg
front snap kick - head high, stepping softly into a left leg forward front
stance.
13. Pivot to face left, as you throw a back right leg side kick up the
middle.(with hands in cover positions) Recover to continue facing left in
an attention stance, with hands coming together in middle x-block (left
hand on the outside). With nearly no pause, look left over your shoulder,
pivot into left horse stance into the left base of the "I" continuing to look
left, and throw left hand side hammer punch from the x-block position.
14. Look right, bring left foot to right, (staying low), and bring arms together
in an x-block, (right hand on the outside). Step out into a right horse
stance and throw a right hand side hammer punch from the x-block
position. KIAI.
15. Look left, down the middle, bring right foot towards the left, snapping into
ready stance.
Attention, bow.
