Module trackers and sample editors...
Here are some links where you can find all sorts of module trackers and sample editors...
DOS:
- Fast Tracker 2.08 from/by Starbreeze Studios.
- Fast Tracker 2.08 from FTPSearch.
It seems like most of the tracker modules being written these days are being composed on FT-II or Impulse Tracker. The debate goes on and on but as far as I'm concerned FT-II is one of the best tracker programs out there. It has a built in 48kHz stereo *.wav writer (too cool) with great sound and tons of other features. Plus, FT-II has a great Nibbles game built in for when you get too frustrated to keep tracking that new hit song. The current version (2.08) will also read *.wav files into the tracker as samples.
- Impulse Tracker 2.14 from the Official Impulse Tracker page.
Scream Tracker users will find this tracker very familiar and will be able to migrate easily. The best thing I have found about this tracker is that it fully supports my SB AWE 32 PNP and can load samples directly to the expanded memory of the soundcard. Some pathetic "3l337" Warez idi0Tz -- and I'm snarling this -- ruined this project by ripping off Pulse's commercial wavwriter. Pulse decided not to improve IT anymore because of this so no more public releases are being made. Patches and bugfixes are all we get. Thanks again, guys. Rumours are that someone has bought the source code so this project may just not die after all. :)
- Velvet Studio 2.01 from Velvet Development.
MS-DOS only, baby. There's a module player for DOS you can get from their site as well.
- Digitrakker V3.1 from n-FaCToR's Homepage.
- Real Tracker 2.23 from the Real Tracker Home Page.
Real Tracker is a FT-II clone that looks like a windows program even though it isn't.
Windows 95/NT:
- ModPlug Tracker 1.00a2 from Kim's Mod Page.
ModPlug Tracker is currently the only NATIVE Win 95/NT tracker out there. The program is in an alpha stage but is actually a very usable product. MPT is pretty good at just playing modules. Snatch this one up if you want to track but are afraid of using the command line. *grin*
- Fast Tracker 2.08 from/by Starbreeze Studios.
- Fast Tracker 2.08 from FTPSearch.
I run FT-II under Windows 95 all the time with no problems. I don't think it will run under NT but I could be mistaken. Please let me know if I'm wrong.
- Impulse Tracker 2.14 from the Official Impulse Tracker page.
IT works under Windows 95.
- Real Tracker 2.23 from the Real Tracker Home Page.
RT works under Windows 95.
UN*X:
- Funktracker Gold v1.0 from The Hornet Archives.
Funktracker Gold is for Linux, FreeBSD and VoxWare v2.9. /dev/dsp only. No GUS support. The README.User_Manual says: "FunktrackerGOLD is a 'born again' DOS32 Funktracker 1.08d, for Unix." I don't have access to a UN*X box to check FTG out on so all I know about this program came from the readme files. FTG doesn't support the *.S3M or *.XM formats.
MAC:
- Meditor EPSILON TR 3 from Quartz Quinette.
A tracker for Macs that supports: MOD, MTM, S3M, XM, and MMF modules. As of 8/6/97, the readme for this file stated: "Currently development of Meditor is SUSPENDED, and is not terminated. This is due to lack of time and money for development. If I come to have enough time and money for development of Meditor, I will continue it and will release a new version." The current version is available from the QQ download pages.
- PlayerPRO 4.5.X from the PlayerPRO home page.
Supports: MOD, S3M, Midi, MTM, MADx, OKTA, System 7 sound, MINS, WAV, XI, AIFF, AIFC, MED, 669, IT, ULT and XM. I downloaded the Win95/NT version and it was only a winplayer so you may be out of luck. After fighting with an *.hqx archive to try to find out something useful about Meditor I'm not about to try it with PlayerPRO. I don't know anything else about the MAC version. Sorry.
BeBOX:
- PlayerPRO 4.5.X from the PlayerPRO home page.
PlayerPRO will theoretically run on a BeOS with PowerPC. Unfortunately, I have never even seen a BeBox so this is just a guess based upon the technical information provided on the PlayerPRO page. See the above MAC PlayerPRO comments for more information.
