1999 Customs

By now I have finally caught on to repainting and am starting to experiment with different colors and techniques, and refining what I know. This is a continuous, life long process that will never be finished...

#13 - Melody - finished in 1999

SM Arabian Mare repositioned to the 'square' correct standing position for showmanship. My first dapple grey and she turned out wonderful. The white to grey shading by hand was hard, but it turned out with very little trouble. She's a sweetie. She live showed okay, but has been retired.

#14 - Simply Gorgeous - finished in 1999

I absolutely love this guy. This was my first Traditional-sized repaint since my very first custom! He's a shaded bay with light dapples over his belly, rear, and shoulders. He placed 4th out of 30 in the CM class at a small live show (not NAN qualifying). "At a first glance he isn't that eye-catching, but when you look closer someone spent a nice time giving him faded dappling, and the horseshoes help, too."! At South Coast Classic 2000 he placed 1st in Simple CM Morgans at another show along with RESERVE CHAMPION SIMPLE CM LIGHT BREED, and NAN'd twice in the past for the previous NAN '00. As of 3/29/02 he has NAN qualified two times for NAN 2002.

Headstudy.

#15 - Black Ice - finished in 1999

A gorgeous bisque (type of porceline) quarter horse repainted to an awsome black overo. I saw an APHA (American Paint Horse Association) ad in a horse magazine with a black and white over and knew as soon as I bought this guy off E-bay that had to be him. And it fits him perfectly. The name just happened to, too! He hasn't Live Show placed so far - I think it's because of his feet and conformation. His hooves look like they're really worn because of his upright pasterns. I didn't notice this before I painted him! So he has been retired from show, too.

#16 - Sweetheart - finished in 1999

The ERTL brand trotting foal: I liked the foal, but not the mare. The foal was repainted a soft baby shaded chesnut GOING BLACK! ... or maybe not - I modeled her color after a real baby at the barn I go to who everyone thought would turn black but he ended up being a gorgeous liver chestnut. But that is why she has all that black between her legs, on her knees, on her muzzle, and on her hocks and fetlocks. She's SHEDDING! She's such a sweetie, and her star is in the shape of a heart so her name . . . Sweetheart! She's been pretty consistent in the live show ring, too. I show her as a Foxtrotter foal, under which she NAN'd twice for NAN '00, but did not win anything there, and as of 3/29/02 he has NAN qualified two times for NAN 2002!!

The mare from the set with the foal I repainted above was my airbrush test-horse, which came out okay, but no spray finish or glossed anything so I won't call her a custom or show a pic of him. I was just messing around. Though I'd mention it, though, because I decided to handpainting for now - except maybe for dapple greys. I gave her to my younger cousing who likes horses and has a small Breyer collection!

#17 - Polar Icecap - finished in 1999

The new mold SM Appy repainted a black blanket appy. I took off his mane and gave him a banded one, as well as hacking off his tail and gave him a pleasurable hanging tail. He has all the charactorishics of an appy, mottling around the mouth, shorter tail, and pink at the base of his tail (on the white) and pink on the white near the hooves and center of the star, where you would be able to see the pink skin showing throught on white markings. He has shown quite well and usually places in big classes, but has never NAN'd.

#18 - Top of the Morning - nicknamed Shane - finished in 1999

My first custom order, and so far my last! I don't like keeping someone waiting. I undished his face and widened legs with epoxy, which really makes this mold look great. I painted him to a chestnut with one sock and a snip and star. Still a little leery about those chestnuts and shading, but he came out absolutely wonderful and I'm glad I took that one custom order!

Boy what a simple 'facelift' will do to this head!

#19 - Kalila (in Arabic her name mean "sweetheart, beloved"!) - finished in 1999

Hartland Morgan with a new mane and tail and dished face to be arabish, to a soft black point dappled rose grey. My first actual airbrush CM (I am NOT handpainting another dapple grey - no way!). I am so happy with her, she's just wonderful! Her dappling turned out great. She doesn't show well, though, because of her Hartland conformation.

#21 - Heart of Sky - finished in 1999

Named after the father god of the Quiche Mayans - found it in my literature book! New SM TB with a head tuck and his hind foot placed on the ground, and slight lengthening of the mane and tail, and gelding parts added! Painted a rich chestnut with the cutest markings and shaded nose. He places off and on at shows, and NAN'd once for NAN '02.
