1998 Customs (Micro Minis)

Now I know how to correctly paint Live Show Quality Customs, thanks to all those great articles out there on the web! All my models are handpainted. The primer is sprayed on, the base coat is cosmetic-sponged on, and everything else, like the shading, is by hand. I like the effect, but it takes a long time! All my horsies have a clear finish, glossed eyes/ears/nostrils/hooves, and if needed, horseshoes with nailheads

Here I went on a Micro Mini painting spree. Micro Minis (MM) are under 1 INCH TALL. They were quick to paint and I was able to experiment with shading on them much easier than if I had used a big horse. Painting them also helped be develop small detail work.

#8 - Ima Work of Art - finished in 1998

Micro Mini Western Jogging horse to chestnut overo. Okay, so I went a little overboard with his white markings and dots . . . I made him a western set, too. At my first show he NAN qualified in western pleasure, and has placed off and one since.

Here he is in the western set.

#9 - Mexican Jumping Bean - finished in 1998

Micro Mini Grazing Foal slightly repositioned into a run. She's darling baby chestnut overo.

#10 - Jack Be Nimble - finished in 1998

Micro Mini Jumper to a bay. Very pretty shading, I really like him. I made him english tack and jumps with which he has NAN Qualified before for X-country and Stadium Jumping.

#11 - Blackberry Frost - finished in 1998

Micro Mini standing stock horse to bay overo - gorgeous. Hooves filed out to be the correct shape, not blobs. He rarely has placed at the live shows, but one judge said he was one of the nicest Micros she had seen and would have done much better if the class had been smaller (it was a very big class)! Also placed 5th in another big class of 30 in a small Live Show (not NAN qualifying) CM division because "he is so acurate for being to tiny, and detailed"!! Lately, I've been showing him in tack with a mailbox in western trail, but some judges just don't seem to like to place micro minis.

#12 - Little Blast - finished in 1998
Micro Mini Sliding Stop horse to a strawberry roan. Every little hair painstakingly (nice word, huh?) painted with a teeny thin brush. Absoutely gorgeous. Here is a close-up of him in western tack I made so you can see the roaning better (I like to show him in the keyhole gymkana race, but he usually doesn't place.) He's shown here in his western tack set because this digital pic shows his painted roan hairs so well.
