I remember heading over to EB one day after being
upset that I couldn't find
Castebook: Night (look at the Exalted Section to see why I'm glad I
didn't find
that one). I'm looking through the store and I see sonic on a CD case, I
was
intrigued, thinking I had finally found Sonic CD for the computer.
Instead I found
and bought this CD!
Now this CD contains 26 tracks starting appropriately
with Sonic's theme
"It Doesn't Matter." Starting off with a whistle and music
that I can only
describe as skater rock the song is very appropriate given the upbeat
nature of sonic games and the character in question. At first I was
upset
thinking that the rest of the soundtrack would follow this theme (I like
skater rock but not THAT much). However, I found myself to be wrong.
Each character seems to have a different style to
there songs from Industrial
(for Shadow) to Hip Hop (Knuckles) to Lounge Jazz (Rouge). I enjoyed
the variety of the songs, and even if I weren't a sonic fan (so I may be
biased)
I'd enjoy the characterization apparent here. Most of the CD is full of
non-vocal
stage music from the game, which is excellent background music, except
for the
last track which is a special "Chao Theme" which will NOT be
liked by all, since
it oozes with the cuteness of the Chaos (if you don't know what I'm
talking
about check out the SA2 review in the games section).
What I loved most about this CD, besides the variety
of genres and the excellent
lyrics and singing, is how unobtrusive the album is. If you want to sit
down and play
something while your writing, besides the vocals, the soundtrack seems
to meld
into whatever your doing, without becoming annoying unlike most Hip Hop
albums
(Did I mention I'm not a fan...).
Overall, I'd have to give this CD a 9.5/10 the only
reason it loses points is because
of the poor advertising for this CD, I mean if I hadn't been a cheap
bastard
looking for a cheap computer game I would never have known about this.
