ET FAQ

general questions

"Why the changeover from Alias Productions to Electronic Transcendence Productions?"
Because it was time. Alias Productions was a creation of the early days of my presence on the web. As I grow and mature, so do my web productions. Electronic Transcendence is an expansion of the original nature of my presence, as well as being an excuse for some much spiffier stuff.
"Where did the names Electronic Transcendence and Lost Factor come from?"
I'd like to give some elaborate explanation that they were thought of in a profound epiphany, but that's not true. They come from my e-mail address, eltf. Originally this stood for Eliot Lefebvre Transformers, which was why I started the e-mail account, but as I deviated from Transformers with increasing frequency, and I started to like the name Alias Productions less and less, I began thinking about turning ELTF into an acronym. Electronic Transcendence and Lost Factor just came to me. Electronic Lost Transcendence Factor, then. ;>
(By the way, that term actually does mean something.)
"But why the change on the page? Everything used to be so much easier to find on all the separate pages! I mean, now I don't know where to look for anything..."
Then you weren't paying much attention. The main page lists where to find everything, and even if you don't look, most of it follows simple logic. (The navigation info is reprinted here, for simple aid.) Also, there's another advantage to the newer format - everything is more centralized, so it's easier to jump from, say, general links to Transformers links. Less page-switching is a good thing.
"What, exactly, does Electronic Transcendence Productions produce?"
Hopefully, some level of intellectual material on the Web. In short, it is my haven on the web, but I see no point in creating a simple "vanity page". There is stuff here - lots of it, in fact. I get out my arrogance, and I look philantropic. It's great to be me.
"What are the little guys on the section buttons, around the pages, and all the rest?
They're the Electronic Transcendence Mascots! Aside from looking cool, they all serve to spice up the page graphically. For more information on them (including their hidden meanings), go to the Mascot section of this area.
"Can I submit stuff to Electronic Transcendence? I mean, I just finished up with (insert name here), and I want to publicize it. Will you let me?"
Depends. Transformers: Alias and the tech spec arena taught me the inherent weakness of open submissions. So, you can send anything you want to me, but posting it requires it to meet one simple requirement: I have to like it. It can make me laugh, think, cry, or just touch off a chord for no apparent reason - but it does have to be something I like. Simple as that.
"Why do you post stuff like this? Aren't Transformers old-school mecha crap? / Aren't RPGs tools of Satan or something funky like that? / Don't CRPG monsters as mascots sentence you to a brief sentence in an outer circle of Hell? / Etc."
I post stuff on this page because, as I just finished saying, I like it, and I feel it contributes at least in some small way to making an intellectual bastion on the web. It's not here to impress people, or to make up for sins of the past (that would take FOREVER...), or to prove myself capable of liking the requisite material to be admitted in some group or another. Will you like all of it? That depends, but there's no prerequisite for it. You do or you don't. Your call.
"What sort of technical stuff is going on with this site?"
This site was originally designed and laid out on a Pentium 100 Toshiba laptop. It has undergone its second version on a Pentium II Dell desktop, working over UCONN's ResNet. Although it is designed to work with nearly any browser, it works best with a graphical, CSS-compatible browser, and a faster connection is always better. Neither Macintosh nor AOL are recommended, but that's on general principle.
"Um... dude, your site connects at the speed of glass running downhill..."
Part of why we have two different servers. If this account is running far too slowly for your tastes, use the sidebar links to switch to the mirror site. Most people, I find, have an easier time connecting with Crosswinds, though I've seen connections that just hate Crosswinds...

navigating et

Just to help those of you who are extremely new here, we've got this handy guide to how the page is laid out. Okay, granted, it's relatively self-explanatory, but I've found over time that the simplest things in the world produce the most confusion, anger, and damage. Look at ethnic cleansing, for example. So, here we are. Note that although this screen capture was from v2.55 of Electronic Transcendence, nothing in the navigational aspect of the site has changed. Got it? Okay. Keep an eye on the numbers...

  1. This is the primary navigation sidebar. As the name might suggest, it's used for navigation. Each of the various buttons will lead directly to the chosen area, with non-graphical links directly below (for those without graphical browsers or images turned off). Below is a Bravenet button (it's a good thing) and a quick copyright notice/e-mail link.
  2. This is the header bar. Guestbook leads to the main page of the guestbook, Voting! to the polling booth where you get to vote on various things on the site. Newsletter links directly to the newest ETWN, with all of its trademark humor, eccentricities, and whatnot.
  3. This is the ET logo. It does nothing, but looks cool.
  4. This is the main part of the page, where you'll find all of the important text for wherever you are.
  5. This is the top of my browser as of 10/24/00, powered up with the pretty angel sans shirt by Hotbar. There's a link in the Travel Center if you'd like to do the same to your browser.

Original Anime Fiction

"How did on20 get its name?"
Want to know the truth? I have no idea. The name just came to me, and I liked the sound of it, so I used it. The odd part is that a lot of the characters existed on some level when I thought up the name for the series. Edward was already visually in my mind, he just needed some fine-tuning. There was no real reason outside of "it felt right". Erin suggested that all of the characters in the series are all going on 20 (well, most of them), so if you must have a reason, there it is. ;>
"Where did you get the idea for Valkyrie Legion?"
It wasn't Ranma 1/2, actually. In the Magical World supplement for Thrash (link in the Travel Center), Blackbird talks briefly about what it was like to be a magical "boy", one who has to change into a girl for the purposes of fighting evil (or worse yet, doesn't change but wears the same costume). I thought the idea was pretty neat, and decided to take it and run with it. The story that's actually being written is modified from the original version, which was a lot closer to Xenogears...
"Are any of them in the same universe with one another / with existing anime?"
As of right now? No. (That might change in the future, if it's convenient to have a crossover OAV.)
