Here's Marcia again, clutching her camera like a baby. I always find the pics I like the most are the ones that aren't staged, where the subjects just be themselves, and this pic's one of my favourites. She'd come to the park barefoot (I myself had taken off my sandals earlier as I wanted to feel the grass between my toes - there they are, down in the bottom right hand corner of the pic) and she had that totally bohemian air about her. Cool lady, eh?
Sitting where we were, I spotted a bloke on stilts twirling a baton around. Scrambling to my feet, I rushed to where he was and got these snaps. These didn't come out too badly, I think.
Marcia, myself plus a friend of the couple she knew named Clive (hello there!) walked off to the big black tent (or to give it its proper title, the 'Liberation' tent). On our way there Clive headed off, while Marcia bumped into a lady she knew (a flatmate of hers, I think) selling jewellery nearby who complimented me on the fish-shaped pendant I had around my neck (if you're reading this Chris, thanks for passing it on to me!). While Marcia talked to her friend, I got this pic (nice view, eh?).
Once inside the tent, I didn't see Sam or Fraggle, but I did hear some lovely African hi-life playing. Here's a lady dressed up as a meerkat having a dance with a little girl nearby (she must have been boiling in that suit! How did she manage?).
Here's a photo Marcia took using my camera as her's didn't have a flash on it. I do like the way the younger bloke looks towards the older bloke (almost for inspiration and out of admiration, it seems), while the older bloke looks almost serene at his drum.
Here's one I took of the older drummer, along with the guitarist in the band (unfortunately, the mic stand's in his face, which spoils the pic a little).
On
exiting the 'Liberation' tent, we found ourselves having a lovely conversation
with a young woman down from the countryside for the day expecting a baby
and an elderly geezer on various things like the vibe from the festival,
expectations of life and the pros & cons of growing older (something
the elderly bloke spoke about at great length. If I'm as spritely and as
alert as he was when I reach his age, I can't say I'll complain about my
lot in life).
Giving the pregnant lady's bump on her tummy an affectionate pat and shaking
hands with the elderly gent, Marcia and I wished the both of them all the
best before heading off looking for more things to snap. We duly found
them, as there was a group of drummers (along with a few other musicians)
who'd gathered in a circle and who were coming out with some entrancing
rhythms. While Marcia stood outside and snapped away, I stood inside the
circle and got these pics below of the drummers going at it, as only they
could (later on, I did a little bit of accompaniment on my harmonica. Well,
why not!).
