The Leng Kee Orionz began as the Leng Kee Hornets in 1999 after the Ladies' World Championships in Sweden. It was a team made up of sporty tertiary students. Leng Kee Residents' Committee was very helpful in the birth of the Hornets, and till this day is still the sponsor of the Leng Kee Orionz.
Training took place initially on the outdoor premises of Leng Kee Community Club. However, the conditions were hardly conducive for Floorball. Due to the damages to equipment, training was suspended. The club has since then trained in various locations, but never has an ideal ground been found. Till today, the lack of training facilities remains the biggest problem posed to the club. It is an understatement to say that this has hampered the development of the club, and its players. Regardless of the difficulties faced, the players remain optimistic of the club's future. The club is today, as it was in the past, self-run. Goh Ser Khee, the main driving force behind the Orionz, manages both the ladies and the men.
In the first year of its formation, the Leng Kee Hornets finished third in the 1999 Singapore Floorball League. The subsequent year, the club improved to a second place finish. In another tournament, the 2000 Takashimaya Open, the Hornets took third place.
Since its formation, setbacks and difficulties have always plagued Leng Kee Orionz Floorball Club. The club, however, has dealt with problems such as losing players to rival clubs commendably. Those loyal to the club, having resisted the lure of top clubs, have matured in those times of adversity. In the 2001 Singapore Floorball League, a full quota of players was registered for the first time, an unprecedented luxury.
The name was changed from Hornets to Orionz in 2001 with the addition of a men's team. The bulk of this team is tertiary students, although there are players from all walks of life. The services of a couple of high-profile players were also secured to aid the team's cause in the league.
All said, the Leng Kee Orionz are just a bunch of fun-loving characters who want to enjoy the game of Floorball. Regardless of the obstacles that stand in the way, the Orionz will continue to live their dream, because if they can dream it, they can do it.
