Results of
the Finals of the Lindenberg
Neil Winterton d Chris Mooney 1 up
Stimulated by the
thought of all the annual subs
being paid gave our Treasurer Michael Morgan the extra bounce needed to
record
a win – 2 points clear of the field.
When asked about how he constructed what was his best round in
some time
he replied: “It sort of just snuck up on me!”
After recording two monthly wins in 2006/07 he obviously wanted
to get
another under his belt early in 2007/08.
Well done!
Michael Harrison had an above
average 39 point round to kick off his campaign for the year and scored
himself
a 2nd place downer in the process.
He has been complaining about his handicap blowing out to near
double
figures of late, so perhaps the handicapper can now help him out. (Not
this
month – ed.)
In the
absence of any visitors on the day, Captain-Handicapper Neil Winterton
decided
that
Final of the Lindenberg
Neil Winterton def Chris Mooney 1up
An intense battle was fought and won in this year’s Lindenberg Final. One of the members of the playing group described it as “the best final we’ve seen on this track in a decade’. Chris thought it was going to be one way traffic after Neil threw away the first 3 holes and halved the 4th, but he regained his composure to get back to all square at the break.
The back nine was a see sawing
affair with
the match back to square after 15 holes had been completed. Chris thought that to win the match he would
have to get his nose in front, so pulled out all stops to sink a 10
metre par
putt on the 16th. Neil
responded with an 8 metre par putt. The
17th saw both competitors trying hard to find a way to lose
the hole
rather than win it, and in the end it was halved. The
final hole proved challenging to both as
they missed the green and subsequently miss-hit their 2nd
shots. Fortunately for Neil his was the
lesser of the miss-hits, leaving Chris with the challenge of having to
chip-in
to take the match to the 19th hole.
His ball stopped a painful 2cm short of its mark, leaving Neil
with a nail-biting
45cm putt for victory. Congratulations
Neil for a great effort over 4 months!
David Gilchrist, one of the club’s
self-proclaimed “best looking – best playing” golfers, had an
unfortunate date
with the Bradman hat. His score of 21
points was nothing to crow about but he at least had consistency on his
side –
11 points on the front and 10 on the back!
Perhaps the 2 point boost to his handicap this month will see
his
fortunes turn around.
The time
has come for all interested in attending this year’s trip to Port
Macquarie to
show their hands and book some accommodation.
A list of attendees is being compiled so please ensure that your
name is
down if you’re going. More info at
today’s meeting!
