July 2007
Welcome
to Epps/Meredith Day
(Final round of the 2007 Lindenberg)
Epps/Meredith Day traditionally kick-starts the Lizards year and with all of the competition slates wiped clean all members are back on an equal footing. Bill Epps has been a Lizards stalwart, playing regularly up to the mid 90’s and continuing as editor until his sad retirement due to ill health in 2006. Bill’s good humour and unique way with words are sorely missed. Neville Meredith also gave up his regular playing status in the mid 90’s to join the ranks of Lizards’ country members. He lends his name to the major event of our annual pilgrimage to Port Macquarie, the Nifty Plate. The Lizards Gold Club misses your regular company gentlemen!
With the June washout, most of the 2006/07 trophies were finalised as of the May event – congratulations to all winners! The only trophy not decided was the Lindenberg with the two finalists (Neil Winterton & Chris Mooney) agreeing to play it at today’s event.
The 2007 AGM was held on Tuesday 3rd July at the Dee Why RSL. The following committee members were elected for the 2007/8 season:
President: Jim Small
Vice President: Ivan Tiltins
Captain/Handicapper: Neil Winterton
Assistant Handicapper: Manfred Wagner
Treasurer: Michael Morgan
Secretary: Garry Bird LM
Editor: Chris Mooney
Caterer: Monthly Rotation System (coordinated by Wal Hill)
Baggage Man: Bill Sheehan LM
Assistant Baggage Man: Glenn Castle
Plant Engineer: Bill Sheehan LM
Chief Dobber: Andrew Warner
Victualler: Wal Hill
Looks like another fine batch to take the club forward over the next twelve months. Congratulations to all!
Welcome
to Vice President’s Day
(Final
round of the 2007 Lindenberg & Father and Son Day)
Today
signals the last event in our 2006/2007 season & a day when our
Vice
President starts to think about the reception he will receive over the
next
twelve Lizards days when, as our likely new President, he gets to run
our
meetings.
PRESIDENT’S
DAY, with 19 Lizards and 3
visitors, produced the following results:
1st LIZARDS Garry Bird LM - 40 points off 25 handicap
2nd LIZARDS Neil Winterton - 38 points on count-back off 14 handicap
1st VISITORS Gerry Manderson - 32 points off 20 handicap
2nd VISITORS Neil Saunders - 31 points off 24 handicap
BEST SCRATCH Ivan Tiltins - 29 points
BEST FRONT NINE Michael Harrison - 19 points on count-back off 10 handicap
BEST BACK NINE Wal Hill - 19 points on count-back off 41 handicap
NEAREST the PINS 19+ 1st Andrew Warner LM 9th Garry Bird LM
18- 1st Chris Mooney 4th Ivan Tiltins
LONGEST DRIVES 19+ 7th Gerry Manderson
18- 7th Neil Winterton
BRADMAN Lizards Michael Morgan on count-back - 26 points off 20 handicap
Visitors Phil Peddar - 28 points off 21 handicap
Garry
Bird finished two points clear of the field to win the Lizards trophy
for the
day and, not satisfied with that, got a NTP & won the raffle. It is little wonder that the Dobber charged
him a “Baggage Surcharge” to drive him home.
The visitor’s trophy was won by Gerry Manderson who finished with 32
points, 1 ahead of Neil Saunders leaving Phil Peddar the well deserved
(but not long lasting) Bradman trophy.
The fight
for the Lizard’s Bradman downer was well contested once again with
Michael Morgan
& Walter Hill both scoring 26 points. Being the defending trophy
holder, it
was decided Michael could retain his downer, much to the delight of
Walter.

Draw for the Final of the
Lindenberg
Chris Mooney vs Neil Winterton
Today
marks the final of our Lindenberg match play championship between Chris
Mooney
& Neil Winterton. Although both contestants have considerable
influence on
our Crapper, it is not expected that either will be awarded an increase
to
their handicap for this special event. Good luck to you both.
The
annual pilgrimage to
Our
Annual General Meeting has been booked, once again, at the Dee Why RSL
Club,
for Tuesday 3rd July 2007.
At this
time every year, your committee’s thoughts centre on our office bearers
for the
ensuing year. If any member would like to stand for a position, please
let our
Secretary Garry Bird LM know so that the elections can be rigged
accordingly.
As this
is the last edition of our FOL for the 2006/2007 season, I would like
to wish
Lizards, visitors & readers all the best for next year.
